How come we have no red servers yet???
[ QUOTE ]
I was expecting on monday for this game to launch and we finally get some life back on these empty servers.. I know the bulk of the cov players were current coh players but what about all the returning people and the new comers? Shouldnt the servers be at least yellow? It is hard enough as it is to get on a team. Now I will be stuck soloing thru cov too?
[/ QUOTE ]
They upgraded their servers a while back and changed the metrics. Things that use to make a server yellow back in the day are green by current standards.

Apparently numerous bugs with contacts still exist too. A new one has cropped up, requiring us to log out after doing a newspaper mission in order to get into the next mission.
[/ QUOTE ]
You don't have to log out to fix this. Just open your missions list, click onceon the mission you want to do, and then ... click on "SELECT TASK" ...! Poof, problem solved. It's worked for me all six times that bug has reared it's head.

And, this was /bugged at least once that I know for sure in beta.
The color codes represent server load, not server population. Why would you want red servers? Doesn't make sense. Unless you love lag, and find rubberbanding to be an enjoyable extreme sport, just like bungie...
Move to Virtue!
It's very scenic there this time of year!
Well everytime I see people looking for groups, they are either MMs or they are a group looking only for healers. /sigh
Maybe if everyone wasn't playing MMs or thinking that you need healers to survive, we would have more people to team with.
I noted, in the 2 months prior to I6, the average number of players logged into the Virtue server (one of the more populated servers) during "prime time" averaged about 1400 players.
Since the CoV pre-release, it averages about 2100 players. But if I search on the hero-ATs only about 700 are heroes. And the ratio of 1 hero per 3 players is consistance just about any time of the day.
I assume that the other 2 out of 3 players are currently logged in as villains.
So at a minimum, at least half of the online villains are players that were previously playing CoH, and after about 3 weeks, when the "shiny newness" of CoV wears off, and players settle back into their usual play patterns, I suspect that the overall player population will be somewhere in the 1500-1700 range.
[ QUOTE ]
The servers aren't yellow because they had their capacity increased before CoV was added to the existing servers, unlike companies like SOE they don't like to see the servers buckle under the pressure of players before they decide to fork out the cash to upgrade them.
If there was actually a number counter for the active population you'd find that the number of players has actually risen quite sharply.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ding! We've got a winner!
We substantively increased the number of CPU's in our servers to account for new players....We've hit new highs in active concurrent in the past 24 hours.

Statesman, what the heck are you doing in my nice EBIL skinned forum? Where's Lord Recluse?
Out States...out out out, before I have my zombies puke on you.
If thats true States, then how come so many servers are a ghost town when traveling through the zones? I remember a time when there used to be people everywhere. I've been travelled about and checked out many servers. The only servers that seem to have a population now are Freedom and Virtue...the rest just seem very empty. Even high level zones like Peregrine Island seem to have nobody on them. It just seems very odd that this is the case if the numbers are as you say they are.
Did you just ask that? Lets see, maybe they are all playing CoV? Na that cant be it! *goes away to find where all the people have gone*
You probably aren't seeing anyone around because we are playing villains. There's tons of people everywhere in CoV and I'm on the less cluttered Guardian server.
Well considering 90% of all missions are instanced then people are most likely in instanced zones and only use the city zones for traveling. With the number of zones it would be easy to not see 1000 heroes in a gaming session. With Peregrine Island, you can run missions for days without ever leaving portal corp.
Now with the contacts giving phone numbers earlier there is even less reason to hop, skip and jump to them after every mission. Just call them up and go to the next instance.

The new server capacity is quite remarkable. I logged into Training Room 01 during the end of beta event when is was only yellow (the Training Room server was red) and there were 15 active Mercy Island island instances and many of them were full, along with around 5 Port Oakes and 3 Sharks Head. My guess is that there were between 4 and 5 thousand people on the server and that only rated a yellow server load.
The other thing to remember is that most of the folks that left CoH beta went to the same server when the game went live and it took a while for the population to distribute across the servers. With CoV, most of the people in beta went back to their home server for the live game so the population distribution is much better this time around.

Another thing you have to consider is there are now players that span vastly more zones then before. I mean, think about it. If you have vastly more places for a person to be, plus the idea that many of them are in mission areas, plus the thought of if they're in a PvP area, they don't want to be seen, plus the possibility they're located in their base area... That's a lot of hiding spots...
Keep in mind that a really good central gathering place similiar to Atlas park hasn't developed in COV. People just don't seem to gather in Fort Darwin like they do under the statue of Atlas.

This entire thread is a perfect example of why perception is not valid grounds for a conclusion, facts are.
People see the green and think... wow... servers are emtpy... and that becomes true, no matter what the facts are, they wander around, (and I mean no insult - I speak generally), in public making accusations and saying things that are either wildly incorrect or deliberately untrue.
But that's what people do. I find it just as scary when they do it in this particular instance as when they do it with something really important, (like any "hot button" issue that comes up in the world). Please make an effort, as a person, to hold your emotion in check until you know something is true, (or perhaps have some valid reason to suspect it is so), and not run around like a loon.
Leave that to the professionals... like me.
Again, I don't mean to insult anyone here - but I think we could all use this thread as an example to better our lives a bit.
Either that, or we can just accuse Statesman of lying here and continue shouting about how nobody is playing the game and we should all just quit now to avoid the forced server shutdown booting thing.
I'm good with either actually, (calling Statesman a liar is still in vogue now, is it not? That might be the way to go then).

Run a scan for yourself. Simply join any server and do a global find team members. It will give you the totals at the bottom. Then scan for just your game AT's (if hero, mark all the AT's available and it will cull the villains from the list). That along with the global number will give you your totals online at that time.
Examples at 1300 (EST):
Champion (my Villain server): 594 Total. 386 Villains. 208 Heroes.
Protector (my Hero server): 557 total. 352 Villains. 205 Heroes.
Tonight they'll be much higher. Last month, these were the primetime numbers. Now they're the midday numbers.
And I think you'll find PI in general a lot emptier than it used to be as its old purpose of every person looking for herding teams has been removed for the most part. They days of 200 low levels hanging out in Portal Corp begging for a ninja or wolf team are pretty much over.

No one is playing CoV either!!!eleven! I logged into breakout last night and there was only one other villain in it!!! (Was I supposed to do that in all caps?)
Hmmmm. Yeah, it couldn't be that they are in the higher zones or in missions or in CoH or... No, it must be Statesman is a liar.

The bump in the mission completion reward (I3 ish?) also significantly changed playing habits. I see much less street hunting than I used to. I'd like to see the frequency of the zone events bumped up some to pull people back out of instances and make the city zones feel more populated again.

I can't. I've been playing my mastermind exclusively and there is nothing good nor holy about him. Well, his droids are well constructed but the term good doesn't really cover them given the mayhem he puts them towards.

And its alos one in the eye for the conspiracy theroists who claim that releases are ALAWAYS timed to coincide with an NCsoft quarterly reporting cycle.
Sept will be reported on Friday.
Decemeber I guess early Feb.
States,
have you any insight (that you can share) on How NCsoft will be reporting Coh/CoV numbers. Logic as it is single billing would suggests a single combined number, but it would be nice to have my curiosity confirmed.

@Mr Falkland Islands"A Nation Goes Rogue" Arc# 2369 "Toasters and Pop Tarts" Arc#116617
I have also done the global searches, and it shows always less than 2000 players now on Justice...often closer to 1300, where before I6 and CoV it used to show more like 2500-3000 at peak... I am finding it more and more difficult to find groups these last several days, and it is discouraging.
In case noone noticed, the global search DOES show villains in its count as well.

Yeah, that would be nice to know (although, I'm not sure States is the guy to ask).
You just know that if someone says the game is dying, then someone posts subscription numbers that are actually higher than the Q before, that the first retort will be, "No those numbers are double-counting CoH/CoV subscriptions." It will be the same thing as when someone says the 'monthly' numbers were higher in June because the of the free 5-day and 2-week trials.
