Aye, please tell your brother to do something that my old martial arts teacher told me. "Protect your coconut!" (your noggin)

Whether you agree with what we're trying to do over there or not. I just hope that we can get our soldiers out there with as few casualties as possible. That's not a game they're playing over there. I hope he gets back safe States.

you made the right choice jack.

Real life always takes a precident over a game, even in your role Jack. Godspeed to your brother, his buddies and the rest of the brave men and women in Iraq.

Welcome back, Statesman.

Best of luck to your brother on his tour of duty overseas.

Indeed, give our best to your brother. Having a member in the service can be rough on families.

As for your brother going to Iraq... I recall he was recently in Korea before. Seems he's chewing the same dirt as this former combat engineer (korea 93-94, Iraq 90-91).

That's funny chase. I was stationed at Camp Hovey Korea from 93-94.

First: Good Luck to your brother, may he do his tour and come home safe and sound!

maybe he can say Hi to 2 of my nieces and 1 nephew that are currently over there.

Second: I appreciate your honesty States! If you've ever read my posts they are usually full of passion and probably could use a little polish, so fair's fair on that one. In fact I'd rather get the truth of how you feel than some PR BS line. Since we're all full of honesty now, can we talk about this I5 thing? maybe even some I4 stuff?????

Camp Castle, myself. Spent enough time harassing the soldiers at Hovey, though. We might have crossed paths a few times.

Good luck and I hope your brother a safe deployment and that he may return safely to his family that cares so much.

Still here, even after all this time!

Good to see Dev presence on the boards again. Best of luck to your brother.

I will be dropping a big ol' Inv. Tanker write-up on you shortly, so if you've got *any* good news for Inv. Tanks, you should let us know soon.

Your brother is doing a very herioc thing for all of us, I wish him my best.

But boy do I not envy you, there has been a lot of crap to sort out while you were gone....

Posted

Statesman I wish your brother, and every other servicemen, a safe return.

Good luck to your bro. Wish I had those kinda guts.

And hey, I like your snarky flippant responses. Makes me sure it's a human on your end and not a machine.

Good luck to your brother!

I think, though I could be wrong, that the majority of you would prefer my honest thoughts, rather than sales talk. It's probably pretty different than the game developer norm, but it's what feels right for me to say. I'm not going to always write the best responses, but you'll at least have truthful ones.

Which is one of the things I've always liked about Cryptic. Coming from EQ, it's very refreshing.

To Jack:
Best wishes to your family and everyones family overseas... I've got some friends/family over there myself so I know how hard it can be.

To Stateman:
States, you're my fav Dev because you speak your mind. I'm sure if you say something too stupid Cuppa will delete your post just like she would any of ours (give Cuppa another raise =). If you ever get the chance, give the head Dev over at ATITD a call. You two have a lot in common.

Statesman,

Thank you for your post. Thank you also for seeing your brother off right.

I was in Iraq for a year and a half and I will tell you that the last time you saw your family before you leave is what you think most about when you are able to get some sleep. I would picture their faces the last time I saw them and that would help me sleep. So I know your brother will be thinking of you while over there!

edited out... sounded worse than I intended.

Please do tell your brother thank you from those of us here who respect the sacrifices he makes for our country.

By the way, I didn't find your response insulting.

I did find it confusing, as the spawn he described is far smaller than most 5-6 person mission spawns.

Edit: and yes, I appreciate what you say NOT being filtered through PR.

Having served in the military myself and having a wife who still does (we both came from military families) I completely understand this. I hope your brother comes back in the same shape/condition he was in when you loaned him to Uncle Sam.

The one thing I believe most players want from you more than anything else is actual honesty. None of the "controllers were never meant to have multiple instances of their pets out at once 14-16 months after the game has gone live kind of messages". If having multiple pets is overpowering, then simply say so. It would have been better received had the message been "pets are reduced to one instance due to overpowering nature of multiple instances of them"

In a nutshell, if you have to nerf it, say so. Don't beat around the bush or give some explantion that while may be true, will end up ringing hollow to us (due to circumstances). If a blaster power needs nerfing by 25%, then simply say "Power X reduced in hitting power by 25% to bring it in line with comparable powers". This will go over far better and still get the desired message out.

The reason I ask for this is that many players have stated they feel insulted by the way you've worded some of your explanations.

PS: I'm only critical of you guys and the game because I really care about it and have a lot of fun playing it. I don't want to see that fun go away in the name of balance given the flavor of Balance I'm seeing on Test server right now.

The flavor there right now is bland and disorganized. Various powersets are not performing correctly within their specified AT. Certain scrappers are now better tanks than some tanks, high end controllers are very much like blasters, etc. Each powerset should provide the function of the AT it is in. Right now, that's not necessarily the case.

Virtue: multiple characters.

CoH/V: Woot! Maybe Fun is to be had once again.

Ack! RUN! Regen is glowing mean & green!

If it reduces you, it's a nerf.
If it buffs the mobs, it's challenge.
They are not the same.

Good Luck to your brother. All of our prayers go with him and everyone there. Welcome back. If you ever thought we didn't care, your pm count said otherwise.

Don't worry about being snarky. Don't worry about being honest with us. And don't take it personally that so many of us care so much about this game that we get a little snarky.

I have been one of your biggest detractors of late, but it cannot be an easy thing to see your brother go to Iraq. I hope that he is returned to you safely, and soon.

Glad to see you back around. God speed with your brother Statesman, he is a hero for doing what so many other are afraid to do.

Personally, I would rather see you and the rest of your team take their time to answer posts truthfully than answer them like a salesman or with condensation. So... about pets: why the long wait?

Best of luck to your brother, Jack. It's great that you were able to spend some time with him before his deployment.

I for one don't mind candid, unfiltered responses, even if they make me do a double take. I'd rather your responses be that way than passed through the purifying machine known as PR.

I think the resistance levels on invuln may still be too low, though I am still doing some playtesting there (darn job keeps sending me out of town). I hope to have something of substance to report by Sunday.
