Alone in my Invincible mission, (warehouse tileset) I clicked one of those garage door sliding doors that opened to reveal no less than 5 LT + crouching Minion pairs, all standing within about 10 feet of the first glowie.

Not sure if you knew this or not Uberguy, but you don't have to save all of the tanks in that mission. I think I saved 3/4 and I still completed it without a catch.

What really got me was that click 8 glowies simultaneously mission. I spent 40 minutes getting a team of 8 people together just to click glowies. While one was in route a scrapper accidently clicked on it, and the "simultaneous" number went down to 7.

I just never got over my outrage at the "Mystic Knights of Tyr Nan Nog" show that turned Irish myth into Power Rangers and it's ranckled me ever since.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well now, THAT is fair enough. That show was... like bargain basement Xena with a dash of phoney Baileys.

Heck, as someone of Japanese descent, I'm happy when Japanese people even get to portray Japanese people at all, much less get any cultural elements correct. Japanese people were so happy to see a Japanese person playing a Japanese person in Star Trek, we didn't even care he had a name no Japanese speaking person can pronounce.

Of course, one of us did crash the Joy Luck Club, but the sad part is I doubt all that many people noticed.

Although it would be nice if my own culture, beyond ninjas and anime, was well represented, creating a zone based on Momotaro seems impractical, at best. If they had made a zone with shaggy monsters, and called them Japanese shaggy monsters, heck, that would have been cool with me.

They probably would have been shaggy ninja monters, though.

I figured when I didn't lose after the 1st failed one. I reset out of a combination of not knowing how much leeway that left me and being stubborn.

This thread is seriously long, so I did not read through to see if the question has been posted yet. Read a few random posts. I was just curious to know, if what we saw in the preview are the only new powersets coming, or if there will be any powersets for the melee characters. Especially loving the whips idea for scrappers, and also like the daggers scrappers idea.

Posted

Those are the only powersets coming in issue 5.

It has to do with something called 'fun', which takes place at the low levels as well as the later ones.

They created a zone in I2 with very little content. A zone that no one visits or fights in due to A) Travel restrictions and B) Terrible missions. They could have spent some time to improve the zone, but they did not and so now you have a ghost town called Shadow Shard.

[/ QUOTE ]

Funny, but I think there's a lot of content in the shard.. some people just don't want to take advantage of it. I will give you that travel is terrible in the shard if you aren't TP or flight. That could be improved. But I saw the death star for the first time last night and thought it was awesome. As for it being a ghost town, MANY zones are ghost towns now.. not just the Shard.

[ QUOTE ]
Have you ever in your heroing career been given a mission from Paragon City to go into the Shadow Shard? No you haven't. They do not exist. Heroes are given no reason to go there and in fact you never have to go there at all.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't get any missions to go to Striga either...In fact, I don't remember getting an introductory mission to Striga, I just went and saw Stephanie Peebles to start it off.

[ QUOTE ]

Do you really think that it's fortuitous to continue pushing back content for level 40-50? It sounds like a method to thin out their long-term subscribers more than anything. A new player could very easily roll up a hero today and have him past the level 35 range by the time that Issue 5 goes live. The only thing that would be more pointless WOULD be to create a new level 1-5 zone. A level range you can go through in an hour of play?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, the new zone for levels 1-5 was sarcasm. As for level 40-50 content, I think there is a lot of high level content. I have gone through 40-49 and missed 3 contacts. I have a lot of missions left to do. I look forward to hitting 50 and retiring my hero.

[ QUOTE ]

I'll reiterate. In a game where all you're doing is beating up bad guys, you need to give people a reason to keep playing with a main. Creating new low level zones isn't it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Every single member of my SG has at least 5 characters of varying levels.. not one specific main character. The bulk of our characters are below 35. New zones for where the bulk of our characters are is a great idea to me.. will help keep me playing.

If you hadn't already done that, you would have had a mission to go to Striga and see her. It's much like the way you get sent to talk to Wincott if you haven't done so already.

I was also hoping for power customization. I'm tired of blue energy bolts everywhere I look!
Is this even on the list of features to come?

You can get around the shard by using the geysers. However most people don't read the damn little pop screens and miss such an important detail.

Like how they miss the notion that the mission is timed, or coop or has an av or could be any of those things so they should be prepared.

Like how players complain about Lead Scorchers summoning fire imps when the mob info says they can do it.

Most of the zones are deserted due to missions. This is natural.

The hazard and trial zones are deserted by heroes due to the story purposes. It's supposed to be overrun by villians because of lack of heroes in those areas.

Also I would like more mission contacts you would have to search and find. This would make more unique content. If you want to find this special content you have to go look for it in the game or look it up on the web.

Kora fruit missions are tasty and always give heroes a shock that such insps exist for easy pickings.

Also the badge is something to get. Also for the complainers about Lusca and other badge monsters one death is elimanted at the death of lusca. Only morons are responisble for mass debt at giant monsters.

People that are teamed and don't contribute for example.

Mission Customization – Many existing missions have been updated with hostage escort missions, villain wave attacks and more

O

M

G

AND

About Damn Time! To be blunt this WAS needed in the game in previous missions. I mean there is only so many times you can go in to a mission and rescue the hostages in the same manner but with differnt missions with out it crossing your mind once or twice that this is lame.

You know the assasin missions should involve a shorter time span and creative thinking other wise, well there going to get shot.

I cant wait to move hostages out of the mission as alive as possiable. Question will be if there going to get their own health bar AND too add if your able to heal them. Be neat too once you rescued the hostage an alarm goes off and more baddies come out -yeah that would be sweet.

As for the Giant...

Honestly I think all the D&D geeks are wetting their pants right about now. No D20 needed

Cheers~

Like I've said. I've done the content in the Shadow Shard and it's very limited. The missions are boring and repetitive and there are 4 TFs (I've done 3). That's it. The only TF in the Shadow Shard that I haven't done yet is the first one. After that, there will be little reason to go back. I know how to use the geysers to get around, but that's not a perfect system either. If you're a fan of doing the same exact mission over and over and over again....then this is the zone for you.

[ QUOTE ]

I don't get any missions to go to Striga either...In fact, I don't remember getting an introductory mission to Striga, I just went and saw Stephanie Peebles to start it off.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmm...well I did get a mission to talk to Stephanie Peebles, so at least I got that much. I've never gotten a mission to go talk to the Firebase Zulu contact. You have to discover that one on your own.

[ QUOTE ]

Well, the new zone for levels 1-5 was sarcasm. As for level 40-50 content, I think there is a lot of high level content. I have gone through 40-49 and missed 3 contacts. I have a lot of missions left to do. I look forward to hitting 50 and retiring my hero.

[/ QUOTE ]

In contrast, I went through every single contact and have no missions left to do. There is PLENTY of things for level 1-49 to do, but there is nothing specifically for level 50s. Hitting level 50 is a sad thing. I delayed doing it for a month because I didn't want to have nothing to look forward to. Now I bring him out for SS TFs and AVs and wish that there were more ways I could advance him.

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

Every single person in my SG has one main. 95% of these mains are level 50. We have lots of alts that we've rolled out of boredom, not by design. We rolled all of our mains up to level 50 and now we're in the process of rolling up our "main alts" up to 50. We definitely all want high level content. Playing with an alt just isn't as fun as playing with the character that drew you into the game in the first place.

I figured that. My respose was to the person who said that the shard was useless, one of the reasons being that you don't get missions from Paragon City that send you into the Shard. I was pointing out that I don't get missions that send me int Striga either.

Hey, can we get it so that you are not absolutely required to go visit Lt Wincott in the Hollows when you get your second contact? He/She will not give any other missions until you actually go visit him, regardless as to whether you accept Wincott's missions or not. I have made dozens of alts, and following the contacts, ALL have had to travel to the Hollows for a visit. I don't need to be "introduced" to the Hollows anymore. Just make it so that the Hollows visit is one of two options to chose as a mission, and you are done.

Actually, for one alt, I got frustrated, and leveled him up just so I could get introduced to a new contact rather than take the visit the Hollows mission.
/minor-rant

PS I really don't need to visit the Hero Corp rep for the difficulty slider any more either.

I hear you, though I sometimes wonder if the problem is that there isn't much interest in Japan? (Aside from the Momotaro candy I found once.) Do they take stuff like Momotaro for granted? I've wondered why there's never been any manga stories translated into english that played upon some of those great folk tales. Is that a judgement made by the American publishers or is there disinterest in Japan?

Sigh either way, 'cause Momotaro's pretty cool. I'd love to see something inspired by those great folk tales in the game... heck, I'd like to see anyone not named Miyazaki get that inspiration.

Coincidentally, this is also the reason why the Shadow Shard isn't ultimately themed on the movie Barbarella. Although it might have been cool if it ended up themed on the movie Flash Gordon.

Hey, you already got the tentacle monster and the matching schoolgirl outfits.
Even if it was not called a japanese tentacle monster.
A Kitsune showing up in some missions would be way cool though. Especially if you could not know if it was going to help or annoy you

And amongst my ancestors they WERE regarded as dieties.

[/ QUOTE ]

Um, how would you know? Have you spoken to your ancestors lately?

With all respect to your personal beliefs, there simply is no record of what people believed back then, and it's mere conjecture that the Tuatha de Danaan might have been gods re-rendered as heroes. Check out any half-decent history book on the subject. 'The Pagan Religions of the Early British Isles' is excellent.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have not read this book in particular but logic dictates that those mythologies originated from tales told of the bronze age invasion of Ireland where the then dominant tribe was wiped out by the invaders, with the survivors fleeing for the wilds or being enslaved (they did that kind of things in those days you know )
Anyway, in the typical drinking-hole bragging style the tales of victories got taller the more time passed, and what better way to show how great you are by attributing mythological powers to the enemies you defeated? Makes for more popular stories to tell a couple of generations down the line. Then, in the typical fashion of oral traditions, the historical narrative got mixed up with the mythologies, both original and imported from the defeated trieds. Add in christianisation that added its own unique flavour to (what could be told of) the stories and you end up with a situation where 1500 or more years after the original events nobody knows what is truth, fiction and wishful thinking.

Of course, that is a bit too cold and harsh, and personally I prefer the more mythical interpretation

That said, I would have prefered it if the Tuatha de Danaan were protrayed as tall, beautiful and immensely powerful humanoid beings rather than the 'cloven-hoof' pseudo-devil from that one screenshot.
