  1. Did you know that DE Swarms used to give regular XP?..and not only regular XP but LT and Boss level XP?

Couple that with the ability to team with any level of hero and the ability to be anywhere in the zone and get XP....and getting a fire tank that had Burn that DIDN'T send mobs running to herd up hundreds of Swarms that died in seconds...

Funny, but I think there's a lot of content in the shard.. some people just don't want to take advantage of it. I will give you that travel is terrible in the shard if you aren't TP or flight. That could be improved. But I saw the death star for the first time last night and thought it was awesome. As for it being a ghost town, MANY zones are ghost towns now.. not just the Shard.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like I've said. I've done the content in the Shadow Shard and it's very limited. The missions are boring and repetitive and there are 4 TFs (I've done 3). That's it. The only TF in the Shadow Shard that I haven't done yet is the first one. After that, there will be little reason to go back. I know how to use the geysers to get around, but that's not a perfect system either. If you're a fan of doing the same exact mission over and over and over again....then this is the zone for you.

    [ QUOTE ]

I don't get any missions to go to Striga either...In fact, I don't remember getting an introductory mission to Striga, I just went and saw Stephanie Peebles to start it off.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm...well I did get a mission to talk to Stephanie Peebles, so at least I got that much. I've never gotten a mission to go talk to the Firebase Zulu contact. You have to discover that one on your own.

    [ QUOTE ]

Well, the new zone for levels 1-5 was sarcasm. As for level 40-50 content, I think there is a lot of high level content. I have gone through 40-49 and missed 3 contacts. I have a lot of missions left to do. I look forward to hitting 50 and retiring my hero.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In contrast, I went through every single contact and have no missions left to do. There is PLENTY of things for level 1-49 to do, but there is nothing specifically for level 50s. Hitting level 50 is a sad thing. I delayed doing it for a month because I didn't want to have nothing to look forward to. Now I bring him out for SS TFs and AVs and wish that there were more ways I could advance him.

    [ QUOTE ]

Every single member of my SG has at least 5 characters of varying levels.. not one specific main character. The bulk of our characters are below 35. New zones for where the bulk of our characters are is a great idea to me.. will help keep me playing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Every single person in my SG has one main. 95% of these mains are level 50. We have lots of alts that we've rolled out of boredom, not by design. We rolled all of our mains up to level 50 and now we're in the process of rolling up our "main alts" up to 50. We definitely all want high level content. Playing with an alt just isn't as fun as playing with the character that drew you into the game in the first place.
  3. [ QUOTE ]

The Shadow Shard is actually four separate zones with a couple of mission arcs and several task forces. I wouldn't exactly call it devoid of content. Its not really meant to be street-swept, so people don't naturally congregate there just to see the sights, but people do run the task forces that are there.

    [/ QUOTE ]
While there are four separate "zones", they are all the same landscape. I'd hardly consider each separate from the other. I have done the 4-5 different flavors of missions and 3 of the 4 Task Forces. It could very easily be street swept as it's the only zone with level 51+ mobs in it...but it's so hard to navigate that no one ever does. It's a poorly designed zone.

    [ QUOTE ]

I don't know how to answer that. Is it fortuitous? Certainly not, I don't believe its accidental at all. If you're asking if its beneficial, it certainly is beneficial to the long term health of the game to have content continuously added for all level ranges, and not focus on only one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fortuitous clearly wasn't the word I was looking for. Beneficial is even worse. I think prudent is what I was looking for I think that while having addtional content at all levels of the game is a good thing, alienating your high level playerbase is going to be bad for business. Considering that half of my original SG quit out of boredom, more things to do at endgame is needed to keep people playing long-term. There is a very large number of heroes with nothing to do (level 50) and everyone else 1-49 with plenty to do. Any content that you can do between the level ranges of 1-49 will not be accepted as level 50 content.

    [ QUOTE ]

There's a level cap. They devs expect people to eventually reroll alts. The only way to encourage that is to continuously add lower level content to make it worthwhile to play through again. They expect to add content to the higher level part of the game so people can return to their mains periodically and see it. But they are also adding things like autoexemp to task forces so people can play their "mains" and experience bypassed content. In a sense, autoexem is in fact a form of higher level content.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All games have a level cap and not all games expect you to continue to roll alts. That's an unfortunate side effect when you're in a game that's very XP friendly. Sure. Auto-exemplar is a form of high-level content...if you've somehow skipped all of those task forces and trials. If you have done them, well it means very little to you. Flashback would help too, but there is very little replay value for an individual hero.

Personally I hate the mindset that alts are the accepted way to keep playing. That's bad MMORPG design. You should never run out of things to do with one character. It sounds more and more like people just want this to be an Action/Adventure game instead of a MMORPG. You are not supposed to beat a game in this genre.
  4. [ QUOTE ]

I am having a problem with posts like the above, complaining about the level of Croatoa. Everyone who has complained stated it's because they want a higher level zone. I have been playing since June of 04, and correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the first new added zone, in Issue 2 - I believe, the Shard? And isn't the Shard a level 40+ zone?

Hmmm.. so the high level players got a new zone before everyone else.. and now the devs are creating zones for the other levels and people are getting upset.. seems like a poor reason to get your underwear in a knot.

And all of this new content is free... gee.. I think I'll complain that there isn't a new zone for levels 1-5 because I am so over GC and AP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They created a zone in I2 with very little content. A zone that no one visits or fights in due to A) Travel restrictions and B) Terrible missions. They could have spent some time to improve the zone, but they did not and so now you have a ghost town called Shadow Shard. Have you ever in your heroing career been given a mission from Paragon City to go into the Shadow Shard? No you haven't. They do not exist. Heroes are given no reason to go there and in fact you never have to go there at all. They are spending a great deal more time on the lower levels by improving their missions, creating new zones, and Task Forces. I think the higher levels have gotten a new throne room for Tyrant.

Do you really think that it's fortuitous to continue pushing back content for level 40-50? It sounds like a method to thin out their long-term subscribers more than anything. A new player could very easily roll up a hero today and have him past the level 35 range by the time that Issue 5 goes live. The only thing that would be more pointless WOULD be to create a new level 1-5 zone. A level range you can go through in an hour of play?

I'll reiterate. In a game where all you're doing is beating up bad guys, you need to give people a reason to keep playing with a main. Creating new low level zones isn't it.

    Leader(s): Alex Crowley

Player Type: Casual to Power Gamer

RolePlay?: Not much. It's up to the individual

    Membership levels: 1-50

SuperGroup Colours: Black and Electric Blue

Normal time of Gameplay: Evenings. We have members overseas who play odd hours though. It's not uncommon to have people on all hours of the day.

Other information: Fairly small organization. We've tried to keep a tight knit family for the most part. Roughly 14-15 active players with heroes all over the board. We do anything from hunting to missions to trials and TFs.

Recruiting?: Always on the lookout for new recruits. Feel free to shoot Alex Crowley, SinnerSaint, ShadowKnite, Death Inkarnate, Pol'Gara, or Mistress' a tell or an email. We can get you into one of our feeder SGs to see if you like what we have to offer.

  6. I liked the first issue of the new comic better than the entire Blue King run...
  7. I remember the constant cries about Burn/Caltrops/Provoke nerfs...

I remember back when the place to PL was in Crey's Folly with a Fire Tank...

Actually most of the IT for the states is done in Canada, 'cause the peguins work for next to nothing.

That explains all the outsourcing. Looks like I'm going penguin hunting.

Yup. And the Polar Interweb, too.

I can download my icefishing photos to my friends!

I have a few canucks in my SG. I was wondering how they were logging on. I assumed it had something to do with penguins, backpacks, and a transmitter. Thanks for the update!

Go back into your hole lapdog. The marketing of this game is best with word of mouth. Many people rather see in game content then know that the Lead designer is running around to conventons. After many months now the "fun" and "COOL" factor is wanning.

What amazing info will Jack say at a comic book convention except "i can't go into that" and "skuls"

    [/ QUOTE ]

I bet Jack is doing all the number crunching and programming on a day-to-day basis too...oh noes...this'll delay Issue 4 even more!

I wish people would ask questions before jumping to the NERF! accusation.

I can't believe that someone has gone 48 levels without knowing that defense and damage resistance are two different things.

Well, you got your question answered anyway. Your shields aren't a waste

Am I the only one who sees possible problems with the magnetism line of controllers?

There is ONE hero in all of comics that has claws similar to the claws set in CoH. Therefore there can arguably be a copyright violation there. I see the same problem with a magnetism set for conrollers. I mean... there are other options for controllers... nature control - make grass and what not entangle and ensnare your enemies. body control - specialize in posessing the bodies (but not the minds) of your enemies.... etc.

I guess I don't see a need to delve into the dangerous waters that are magneto.

    Zeus - god of magnetism

    [/ QUOTE ]

First guy I thought of was Doctor Polaris, actually
  14. If 41 is the max...then how can you do this with higher level heroes? We had 2 level 50s in the trial in with a level 38 controller and had some issues. Mainly that we couldn't do damage to the hydra with the particle cannon (despite blowing up the force fields). Is there some kind of safety in effect for this trial? Do all the higher levels need to exemplat down for the duration?
  15. More things to do with my hero. I don't want to make another one.

At level 50, the only choice is to reroll or exemplar down and do everything I already did again. Which is pretty much the same as rerolling.

Apparently they are STILL datamining the TF badges and I've heard that those still missing badges are mostly missing ones done within a week or two of Issue #2 going live so they probably started at the oldest and are working their way to the present time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I received all of my recent TF badges very quickly. I am still, however, missing the the TF badges from the ones that I did directly after the original TF fix. A lot of my SGmates that were on said TFs haven't received them either.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I'm just doing retroactive TF badges, so if you did TFs before the launch of Issue 2 then they'll come from me over the next couple days. If you're having problems with receiving post-release TF badges (or the respec badge, or other badges in general), please make sure to /bug it and we'll try to figure out what the problem is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm still missing some of my earlier TFs (done back in May/June) are these still being distributed?

    what does 'mez' mean?

Mesmerize. It's known as a "hold" in CoH. Mobs are stuck where they are and can't attack.
