  1. To the best server in any game, anywhere! Well, at least one of the best, anyways. We're humble folks too, really.
  2. No, it would only be a retcon if they had the character as always gay when the character was previously not gay. A sudden outing would be a change to the character, and one that could be handled badly, (though hopefully not the way they choose to handle it) - but it wouldn't be a retcon.
  3. I'd be okay if they went back to the pre-Flashpoint stuff, but I think I'm reading more stuff now than then.

I think this is a strong possibility, but is his JSA going to be in the New 52 Universe proper? I thought it was going to be Earth 2 - I'd say that it would be hard to be especially prominent in something other than the main setting. James Robinson or Gale Simone would be the people I think most capable of writing something of quality here.

Also - I'm not sure that some one coming out as gay when they've been with the opposite sex is necessarily a retcon. I mean, unless people can retcon in real life.
  5. Another random person saying thanks for all you do on the site. Calling off work, well attempting to call off work, is going above and beyond the call.

  6. I am going to have to go with it being Magnolia, in my opinion. A considerable amount of talent in one of my most least favorite films. Very well acted unsurprisingly, but so bloated and meaningless self importance for that wtf ending.

Look, I love the way Hitch writes and all, but if he is the basis for any argument you're seriously making, odds are, you're probably not making a great one*. I haven't seen the King's Speech, and I wasn't around in England in the 40's, not that Hitchens was either, so I am not speaking of the validity of those particular articles, but if you are going to base your arguments about movies strictly on what you've read - don't quote a gadfly as an authority somewhere else.

    * I know he is sick so I won't take any of the easy cheap shots here I normally would.

    How high can you count?
I've never seen it stated that it won't be ported. It's been stated the the fury generation thing caused the sets to be dropped from CoV beta - but that isn't the same as saying it definitively won't be done in the future. The devs rarely say something definitively won't be done. I haven't seen ice armor to brutes as one of those things. If you can link a red name saying such - I'd love to see it.

As far as fury generation - dark armor has powers that would reduce fury generation via pbaoe stuns or fears - but it is a brute secondary currently. (edit to remove a misquote.)

I didn't see Zombie Man's statement as calling out the difference between a person's words verses their actions. I'm not sure what context you used to establish that he was.

The OP made a claim - People should be able to laugh at a "****" joke - it isn't the 50's.

I believe Zombie Man was pointing out that this was ironic - as the general feeling is that **** was far more tolerated in the 50's than it is today. (Or at least - bad behavior by men was far more socially acceptable then compared to now.)

Thus - the expectation, that using the 50's as the paragon of a period of high moral fuddy-duddiness was different that the result in this case. At least - that is the case I believe is being made. I mean - do folks really think women had better standing in the 50's than they do now?

We must be zealous in our defense of the word irony - but not be zealots.
  11. As an /elec brute - I have to side with the /cold camp. The additional defense will be more useful more often than the additional resists.

I'd also have concerns about an NRG brute being able to keep aggro from larger spawns when you fire off all your AoE attacks. I think /cold would be able to handle that a bit better with the -spd AoE attacks and the defense it has.

(I've not played an NRG brute beyond Mercy Island - and haven't duo-ed with one - so I'm merely speculating on the group aggro managing ability in the second point.)

I agree that the proposed idea is bad. I was taking issue more with your "just ask for more" SF's initial answer, as though it hadn't been asked countless times before.

I think the OP's idea was more an acceptance (right or wrong) that there won't be more SF's coming (or at least SF's coming that aren't co-op or brought along with a corresponding TF) from the devs and was proposing this as a workaround. It's not an idea that I can endorse, but I can see why someone would propose something other than more SF's/trials in order to correct the perceived imbalance in merit gains.

    Really?

So your contention here is that the lack of sf/trials is because red side players haven't asked for more of them?

Why not tell him to just eat cake?

Yeah - you probably want to do this. I mean, especially now that you've aired the disagreement here in public along with a description of her as annoying and as someone nobody likes.

Edit: Basically - what Tokyo said.

    Discuss.
I see this question creating a false dichotomy. The definition of hero, evil or whatever doesn't need to be defined in terms of either/or. I mean, why would it? Why would you only look at one or the other and not both to make a determination?

Yep - totally agree with this. Please - I really hope they start re-skinning some of the generic instance maps after GR. Not only to take advantage of ultra-mode, but just to break up the feeling of "not another generic office/warehouse/cave mission."

New Badges: Along with adding badges for 500 Badges Earned, 750 Badges Earned, and 1,000 Badges Earned, we are adding new exploration badges to city zones, almost doubling the number of exploration badges. You can learn new Accolades for finding all of the exploration badges in each city zone.
Curious to see how this affects base porters.

All in all - a nice update.
  19. This idea could work - but it would probably need the creation of a new zone developed with a change in mind and localized to that zone. That said, with the majority of the XP gain in this game being in instanced missions, I'm not sure setting up the world to change is a worthwhile use of resources. (I'm assuming the change wouldn't affect instanced missions, as that would require an enormous amount of work for very little pay-off.)

  21. The pricing model doesn't especially bother me - it's a value decision - what is more important - early access to powers or a free month? That said - clearly some folks are upset.

I'm not sure the revenue created by this move will be more than loss of goodwill among the playerbase and the shock claim to Paragon's health insurance plan from the liver damage Avatea will suffer drinking away all the community anger nightly.
  22. I don't think that villains need new zones actually. I wouldn't be upset if they added a few more though. In my opinion, the most efficient way to do this is to take the PvP zones that are in the Rogue Isles - (Warburg and Bloody Bay) - and create PvE instances of them. The PvP instances would remain - and all PvP related tasks would be exclusive to the PvP instances (no lauching missles or shivans from PvE maps.)

The art assets are already in place, and are generally being under used - all that would need added is content. Warburg would be especially interesting as it is the home of the breakaway Arachnos faction, which could lead to interesting arcs and an interesting SF.
  23. - Not restricted to Paragon City specifically. More environments would be nice.
    - More personalized enemies with better AI. May as well reappropriate the nemesis system here.
    - A move away from "heroes" and "villains" as seperate entities at character creation to a more morality based system. Basically - have what I'm guess will be the GR set up from the beginning. You'll still be able to be a hero or villain - but it will be based on a result of the choices you make while you play.
    - Missions where you have the ability to make decisions that will cause different results.
    - More joinable factions - and factions meaning more than they do in this game.
    - System(s) in place to advance your character that don't involve combat.

Compare it to something like LotR, or other standard fantasy settings - the number of named, personalized evil people is way, way smaller than the number of heroes - the good side is usually outnumbered, so the focus is more on them than the hordes enemies - but superheroes are heavily invovled in personal duels all the time.
Actually - I think you make a case not to have PvP in super hero games. In fantasy games - you are one of many. Your individual wins and loses are part of a larger battle. In a superhero MMO - you character is larger than life. Most people want their superhero to be - super. Individual wins and losses do matter. PvP pretty much breaks that illusion. I think the nemesis system is a superior choice.

Anyways - the comic book argument is pretty weak considering the rest of the game. Most comic book fights don't take place in either a warehouse/cave/office building. Heroes rarely take the train from one part of town to the next. Villains never take ferries.

Lastly - in MMO's game mechanics should always be considered above the RP of a game. That isn't to say the RP shouldn't be considered - it should - but if an idea doesn't work in the game you have, you should not implement it, no matter how good the idea is.
  25. Yeah - I think something alongs these lines would be very cool.

I think regen would be a little overpowered with a ranged toon.
I'd prefer them to use at least some different assault sets than what is currently available.
Dark would be seemingly one of the easier to add.
This would probably be the place to add some sort of more tech style attacks too - as this would be an attractive AT for those that wanted to have a character in power armor.
I'd love to see them add a sonic hybrid - but I'm not sure how that would work out.
A rad assault set would be nice too.
Gun-blade is a non-starter for me - but to each their own.

How about this for an inherent? Not sure of the clever name - Calibration perhaps?
After a certain number of consecutive successful attacks - an effect similar to build up (or aim) procs automatically. (I'm not sure if you'd want to keep the power boost in most of the assault sets here or not.)
