Thank you, Virtue.

It was a good eight years. Virtue was my first server and the only one I ever played on. For good reason, it had the best players: good people, great people, interesting people, funny people, challenging people, crazy people.. and yes, cat people.

Thank you all for being such a big part of my first and only game. As a game and community, City of Heroes and the Virtue server was my "first love" when it came to gaming. Hopefully not my last.

Thank you all.

I don't know what to say. Eight years. Eight and a half years. With new issues and tons of stuff in the pipe...

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Thank you guys so much, you are what made this game great and what made me look forward to logging in everytime, hearing this news made me more sad than I remember ever being, so again, thank you Virtue for being the best community in any game I've ever played, and probably ever will.

Doing a little digging. NCSoft lost 6 million in the last quarter, and while CoH is making money, it is low man on the totem poll on the money makers. Aion was a huge flop, NCSoft got partially bought into by a competitor, and whammo. 4 months is not a lot of time to sunset a game really.

I am grateful for the friends I've made, the people I've met, the people who have been entertained by The Cape and myself.

Keep tuning in as we are still going to be broadcasting.

thanks Virtue for being wonderful.

Thing is, when you're losing money you don't shut down the ones that are doing ok. That's just bad managing.

Anyhow, I'll say my good byes in December when it really closes. Until then, I'll be in game, enjoying the best MMO I've ever found.

And I'll be really praying that it doesn't get turned off but rather goes into stasis mode like Ultima or DaOC or something.

Yeah, this is a bittersweet post, but it does have to be said: Thank you, Virtue.

I think it's appropriate to post a few memories of Virtue, and I'm going to indulge.

I remember starting the game shortly after launch. My gaming group had vaguely discussed City of Heroes at the gaming table; not a single one of us was actually going to play the thing. That's where KGB Special Section 8 got its genesis, actually.

I remember being given my copy of the game by another friend - his video card couldn't run the thing. I was going to play for the free month.

I'm still here. I never left.

I made my main character, Comrade Smersh, as my second character ever. He wasn't the second character on my account - I was sharing the account with my brother at the time. My first character was an MA/Regen scrapper, whose name is lost to the ages. I was level 3 or so, and saw someone standing under the statue of Atlas with a fire sword, and I had to have it. Hence, the Daring Armored Comrade Smersh, and his Linux-fueled Soviet powered armor suit.

I remember not being the actual founder of KGB Special Section 8 - that was actually Red-Eye. He got to level 10 before I did.

I remember the RP community, first starting out under the Statue of Atlas. That's when I met some great players - Capt. Valor, Dr. Trinity, White Geisha, and others, who I had some great times with.

I remember being the unofficial tank for Freedom Factor, and the great folks there - Dwarf Star, Red Robin, and others.

I remember Cog Sprocket. She was a good friend.

I remember playing King Jones when Issue 1 came out, and the dance party under Atlas crashed the Virtue server.

Mostly, I remember Gemini Park as it was, and KGB Special Section 8 as it was. We were once a top 50 supergroup, and we had some great members. Dueling Dervish. Lady Midday. Agent Ravage. Shae Firewarder. Red-Eye. Iron Joe. Soviet Shadow, my strong right arm, without whom it couldn't have been what it was. Mrwrk. Kohlstadt. Lunar Lass. Seigyoku. Soviet Omega.

I remember meeting some great folks IRL - Miss Independence, Vagabond Mage, Sayterra, Lyte, Shae Firewarder and her husband, Rowr, Lord Paladin and others. So many others. Hit People Guy. Kinsolving. Ascendant - I almost forgot meeting Ascendant.

I remember the fun that was my other supergroup I ran, the Guardians of Funk.

So many great times, so many great memories.

Heck, I even met my wife because of this game, at third hand - a friend of a friend of a friend I met playing this game.

Na zdorovie, to everyone I mentioned, and everyone I forgot to mention, and to everyone on Virtue. It's been a hell of a run.

You know.

The irony of this is that come the end, I'm still a wandering SGless nomad, seemingly jinxed and cursed to wander alone.

This became my home after a very, very bad breakup from my other half. And this has remained my home. I'm here for your daily snark, sarcasm, wit and giant bugs. I'm here because that's what I want to be.

But at the end of the day?

This has me gutted. Kicked hard in the stomach. Yeah, I pissed a lot of folk off and upset even more. But I still consider you all friends. Thank you for it all folks. Thank you for keeping me here, thank you for keeping me RPing when I felt like ****.

....I guess i'll be here till the lights go out , I used to think that was a mythical far away time much like a child thinks that school will never end or that they will never get as old as their granparents .

but

it seems i've blinked my eyes and someone else's hands on the lightswitch and is about to plunge the house and street i've lived and loved on , fought and fumed on , made both friends and enemies on into darkness .

and it feels so unfair

im not sure what else to say other than

i'll miss you all

I have loved CoH since I found it in June of 2005 and it helped me through an incredibly difficult time of my life.

I have met many friends in game that were like the family I no longer had. I met a beautiful woman who I eventually convinced to be my wife. I found myself.

Thank you to all the devs who have lovingly brought us this world. I hope and wish nothing but the very best for you all. Thank you, thank you. THANK YOU.

Virtue will always be my home server, no matter what games I go to.

While I believe it will do nothing, I am going to express my feelings to someone who still has the ear of NCSoft Corporate. If you do the same, I ask that you do it RESPECTFULLY and POLITELY.

I'm in the process of installing message boards at heroprime.com (while also trying to decide on a better domain!) for Virtue-ites and other City of Heroes players to keep in touch and continue doing some of the things they do here - post art, stories, general discussion, and so on.

The forum is in maintenance mode right now, but it should be up tonight.

Where do we go from here?

Adios, Virtue! Props to The Academy for keeping me in this game after my first toon, Arcaine, hit 50. To the Teen Squadron for all the enjoyable rp. Everyone else I met through random rp and friends of friends. All good things must come to an end and I'm glad to have met so many awesome people and have been entertained since pre-Issue 2.

Thank you Virtue. I had a lot I thought I might say. But, is difficult for me now.
For a lot of RL reasons this has been an exceptionally hard year for me. City of Heroes has always been a place that helped me deal with everything.
I've no idea what to say.

I know I've always been at the outer edge of the community here and despite how long I've played you all don't really know me, but anyone else feel like having a get together in four months when the servers go dark? We could cry on each others' shoulders.
