/this, many times over (like every other thread it comes up in.)

Sorry, it's just *not* that big a deal to cast buffs. I say that having run multiple bubblers of various types, yes, including masterminds. If it's too big a chore for you, pick a different set.

Many people I send e-mails to, I don't really want to be their friend, any more than I want to give my phone number out to everyone who has my e-mail address.

In short, this is basically letting the RMTers dictate to us how we will and won't be allowed to communicate. I, for one, will continue to leave my e-mail on across all characters. I highly encourage everyone else to do the same. Practically speaking, though, I know that they might as well remove the e-mail system entirely, and if you're thinking to yourself, "Finally, an end to the onslaught of RMT spam!", well, I hate to be the one to inform you that it most assuredly isn't.
Sums it up nicely, unfortunately. And I actually agree with adding the filters, and have for some time. I just strongly suspect that the system may as well be removed with the "accept none/turn off" option.

I don't really object to any of these ideas, it just feels like we're losing something distinct in these parts of the game.
/seconded, quite honestly. Plus, if the levels were going to be dropped - well, at least put some content in there. I've been wanting actual story-based arcs and TFs in DA for years.

I'm somewhat on the fence about some of these. I'm wondering if the email system itself will still be in game three issues from now, for starters. Yes, I found it useful and helped people out with it - now I might as well pick up my old cell phone (that hasn't worked in years) and try to tell them whatever, as I expect to see "does not accept emails" pretty continuously.

Plus, honestly, while the super-sidekicking will undoubtedly be useful - there are times I found it nice to have a much-higher-level come in and clear out a mission, without having to drop them from the team when they got inside.

I suppose this is a "We'll see" for me. I'm just not jumping up and down over the feeling I get reading all this.

Did their bio cover it? I can whip up a bio in a matter of seconds to cover that precise combination. How did that quote go - "Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic?"

He'd worked on the device for years, convinced he could gain not just the effects he wanted, but that he could miniaturize it to fit in a locket. Finally - success! With his daughter standing by, he put on the pendant. Its crystal focus glowed as it attuned itself to him for the test. Arm outstretched, he lifted a crate on the other side of the room. Smiling at his success, he pushed another box. He grinned at his daughter's question. "How'd you do that, daddy?"

With a wink he told her, "It's magic."

She remembered that when they came for him, when he gave her the pendant and told her to run far and fast.

= It's tech, she believes it's magic, and thus would claim to use magic only.

All that aside, the non-respeccability of origin is, I *believe,* a holdover from the very early builds of the game when origin *did* have more of an impact. We've been told it's one of the four things that "defines" a character to the devs (along with primary, secondary and archetype.) Everything else is changeable to one extent or another. It may actually *not* be able to be changed. I wouldn't argue if it were possible, though.
  10. ... unless I can do the contact's missions.

I've seen this with a few contacts. Croatoa, which you can finish in the early 30s, can lead to you being introduced to Cadao Kestrel. Cap level mayhems can introduce you to Ashley McKnight - the situation with the character I'm logged in as right now.

The problem is - she's not high enough (13, just dinged in the mayhem) to do Ashley Mcknight's missions. I've finished Croatoa several levels too early on other characters to do Cadao's arc. On the higher level characters, it's not *usually* too bad, I can immediately get other contacts most of the time (talk to older ones, finish other arcs.) For the low level - I'd much rather be running an arc right now.

    Suggestion:
Either (1) don't have the contact show up unless you're able to run their missions, or (2) if you're too low, or even just in general, have a note about the minimum level you need to be for their missions so you can pick them early. Have the info right up front.

  12. When I say I play on them all, generally I mean it. My heaviest use, though, would likely be Pinn, Victory, Virtue, Infinity, Justice and Guardian. (Yes, all roughly equally.)
  13. Similar ideas have come up on occasion, but it's still a refreshing change from the "Nerf AE" threads.

The last power being a waste is... debatable. Hibernate, for instance, doesn't really need slotting, so you can shunt the 50 slots elsewhere. That said, I wouldn't argue with this.

Depends on what you mean by overrated. "Godmode?" Don't expect it. "Fun?" Heroside, I think so.

That said, you're stopping at 39 and missing some fun or interesting content. Sometimes aggravating, yes, but others (especially villainside) quite amusing, like the Television and Vernon von Grunn.
  15. Well, two of the three I submitted would be fine. (The younger Erin, obviously, would be... er... no.)

Alternately I can just throw the whole shebang at you and say "See if there's anything interesting to play with."

There are exactly two times you'll see the Kheldian 'special' mobs with a normal AT (and no Kheld around)

    1. Cimerora. They spawn as part of the storyline there.
    2. If your team has recently teamed with a Kheldian, they can still hold the "flag" for having a Kheld on the team, spawning Voids.

Just logging in to, say, a Blaster and playing? You'll never have them spawn.
  17. I don't think it should. Yes, you can get a version of it - but a temporary version, which the vet reward makes permanent. This fits right in with other temp powers (sands of mu, ghost axe, nem staff and blackwand.)

Besides, it's nice being able to teleport twice as often to a mission. >.>

For heroes, those trainers are far from being very heroic...
I can say there are people who can't stand the invasions as they are now. Not many, though as they go on the number of people who get burnt out on them tends to increase (by "go on" I mean during scheduled invasion weeks - I even get a bit tired of them by that point TBH.) I have a hunch that number would go up if they couldn't train during that period. (Yes, I actually *do* stop to train if I hit a significant level, depending on character/powerset - think my Kinetics characters wouldn't want to grab Transferrence or Fulcrum Shift right away, mid invasion?)

Frequent, no, but it does happen.

Now, there is a way to do this that would "make sense" - one I'm borrowing from a little smartalec story I put into the RP section a while back.

    Mynx looked at Synapse.

Synapse looked at Mynx, a grin spreading across his face. "I didn't do it," he said, starting to laugh. "Sure, why not, she can take care of herself."

"But what about the training?" Mynx asked. In response, Synapse pulled out a control box and pressed a button. Right next to Mynx appeared a hologram, very solid and realistic looking, save for the wispy circle at her feet defining the projection's edge. In response to Mynx's look, Synapse shrugged. "Had to do something for your sick days. What, you think Positron actually just stands around Steel?"

Mynx leaned in and looked at the hologram. "It looks nothing like me."

The hologram leaned forward and stuck out its tongue. "If you don't need training, shoo," it said, waving her away.
When the trainer "goes live," have the animation have them kneel down, put a box on the ground, and have it "project a hologram." That, of course, doesn't move, and the NPC can run around within a specific range. They despawn when the event ends, the "trainer" never having moved.

Doable, I don't know, but it would give "logical" reason for the NPC to be fighting while still standing around as a trainer.

Non AE reasons that a 40-50 has been in Atlas:

    - Recluse's Victory
    - Finally doing the Midnighter introduction arc (Cure the lost sends you to speak to Azuria and the one Rikti.)
    - Rikti War Zone (Vanguard base)
    - Paying base rent.
    - Starting a SG base.
    - Missions (just finished up World Wide Red again. Three guesses what zones I ended up in at the end of that.)
    - Hosting costume contests.
    - SG recruiting
    - Giving random awards/buffs/healing to lowbies.
    - Using Wentworth's in between all of the above (not to mention crafting and adding IOs to the base bin, it's more convenient than Steel and only slightly less so than Talos.)

If anything, even before AE we've had more and more reasons added for high level characters to be in Atlas - and that's not counting zombie and rikti raids. I know my 50s have found themselves there frequently.

Edit: Drop it to "Over 15" and you can add the cape and aura missions, too.
  20. Green Machine - I want to say they're on Freedom, but they're part of the Repeat Offenders network, and mayhave branches elsewhere.
  21. Looks like the guides up top still work - It's a few issues old, but Plasma's guide is still a good overview.

That said, how do you like playing?

I *tend* to suggest trying a Peacebringer first, as it's more predictable - all the buffs (barring the inherent) are self contained, relying only on slotting and level. Your heal will do the same amount each time at the same level/slots, etc. which can make it easier to learn the AT. A Warshade is a roller coaster ride - your buffs (and some other abilities) depend on how many enemies are around, living or dead, so it can get a little more involved.

That said, I have at least one of each at 50, and they were both a *lot* of fun all the way up.

I understand the idea, just I don't think it's really necessary. Most RP characters I've seen have their stats including their name and such, written in their bio or linked to a web page.
    /this.

Several of mine have their real name as their only name, or as part of their "heroic" name (such as my forum handle.) Those that don't tend to have it in the bio. Others, also, have only one "name" for whatever reason. My SG mates may refer to the "regular" names of the ones with hero names, but I'd be a bit disappointed if, say, a contact or someone's AE mission said "Well, it's so-and-so" when they'd have no reason to know that. (Not to mention the possible "breakage" if that field's not filled in - "Oh, no, it's $realname!" would look silly.)

I'd suspect PVP flagging, in general, is zone (or in this case, base) wide. Putting in a room may require going through a "door" to zone into a PVP-flagged base "zone."

Just a guess on my part. Something like this may also be (or have to be) separate from marking a base as raidable or not, as well.

    Freeform Respecs

Yeah, similar things have been mentioned. Though actually, I16 (not GR) has that out-of-series character creation they mentioned, perhaps that could be adapted. Same with keeping powers as they are, but redistributing slots (which has also been asked for, but IMHO is a touch more likely.)

They could, perhaps, look at Mids interface for inspiration on a semi-respec. Select some powers, have it show which slots/powers would be affected (and have dependant powers removed, as well.)

Comic books don't require gameplay balance. I really wish people who would try to use "It's this way in comics" type arguments would understand that. (As well as those who point out PnP RPG techniques.)

A comic book is written, issue by issue, volume by volume, with every character gaining or losing abilities, power, and effectiveness by what that writer needs at that moment. (And it's not just powers - how many times have various heroes "shockingly revealed their identity!" only to have everyone forget two issues later, and "shockingly reveal their identity!" a year later, then two years after that, etc?) A traditional pen and paper RPG gets tweaked throughout a campaign by the GM - if someone's too powerful, or gets the X weapon of Y and that's making the rest of the game too easy, it gets "lost" or otherwise nullified. And if it's a problem overall, it's removed by the publisher - but those rules can be ignored ("house rules," for instance) by a GM.

That doesn't occur in an MMO. There's no writer or GM changing the story (or, fortunately, the powers and abilities of our character) storyarc to storyarc, buffing or nerfing enemies minute by minute to play to our strengths or weaknesses.

    TL;DR version:

While the game is in a comic book setting, it is not a comic book.
