Quote:July 1st is when VIPs (current subscribers) begin accumulating Paragon Points (to be awarded on your billing date).I cant seem to find a forum dedicated to Freedom Changes yet.
Im looking to start up some new characters and would prefer to start them on the new VIP server.
Does anyone know when the VIP Server will be live?
On the Help Channels, Ive heard July 1 and in the Fall/Winter time frame.
Issue 21 is still in closed beta, and probably will not hit Live until September or October (unless it goes into open beta sometime before the end of July, then the live date might be in August). -
So, the Ustream chat was supposed to have begun at 10:30 Pacific.
Anyone have a transcript or highlights yet? -
Quote:There will be some stuff that you will need to redeem the points for (from my understanding, this will mainly be costumes and temp powers / buffs).im still confused about this whole thing...
Basically if i continue paying my subscription then i keep everything i have, thats the incentive right?
Meanwhile i earn points to redeem new content in i21 and going forward? As a paying player i shouldnt have to redeem any new content going forward.
There will also be content that VIPs will get for free (well, included in your subscription), and that "premium" players will need to pay for (from my understanding, this will be things like the new monthly story arcs, new trials, new Task Forces and new powersets)
Quote:As with this F2P business model, i can already see it:
VIP: 800 points earned.
new Costume Pack: 1000 points.
new Zone: 5000
new powerset 2000
"DARN!"
NcSoft: You can buy 1000 points for an extra $10!
Me: But im already subscribed!!! -
The order in which the characters appear on the server lists is saved locally, not on the servers.

Quote:Incarnates Ascend should be hitting the Test server next week, and the Live servers the week after. As expected with the site it's posted on theres not mutch info here. However it is an interesting read if your into game development.
You guys are putting out a lot press this week. What are you up to?

After that is the ramp up to Issue 21. I suspect that we will get some info on Issue 21 in the first half of July.
I was pretty intrigued by Nate's comment at the end of the article about how they want to keep the game growing, and that he sees the revamping of older content as "a kind of spiritual growth." I'm wondering if this is a hint that we will see some of the older content updated to modern standards sometime in the next few issues. -

Quote:Billie Heck is a level 5-9 Contact. Once you train up to level 10, you will only get missions from him if you have an uncompleted Story Arc. Billy has two arcs, but I rarely get to play the second arc because the first arc usually drives me up to level 11.Hey I'm lvl 10 and I just got billie heck as a contact, my friend who's leveling with me did the same. Problem is, Billie is active for him and inactive for me. I'm stuck and I don't wanna get left behind, help please?
Your friend is still seeing Billy as an active contact either because he did not train up to level 10 before talking to Billy again and getting his next arc or because he has not yet completed the first arc. Even though you can't continue with Billy as a contact, there is no reason that the two of you can;t do Billy's second arc together. The only things you will be missing out on is the story arc completion XP (less than 1/2 of the XP required to get from level 10 to level 11, and you will probably be level 12 or 13 when you complete the arc) and the Temp power at the end of the second arc. -
Quote:The comics are waaaaaaaaaaaaaa(imagine thousands more of those "a"s)y better. Particularly the ones by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti. The older ones, if you can find them, were pretty heavy on the "Weird West" elements. While a little bit of "Weird West" happens in the Gray / Palmiotti run, most of it just really good Western stories.
Some one please tell me the comics weren't that bad. Were Josh Brolin and John Malcovitch trying to see who's career would nose dive harder from that flick?
And neither Malkovitch or Brolin will be hurt by the movie. For actors with the resumes they have, they can afford to make a bad choice or two without breaking their careers.
(Don't know as I can say they same for Megan Fox, though. I guess as long as she is cute and doesn't break down like Lindsay Lohan, people will still hire her) -
The thing that a lot of people have trouble grasping is that the Test Server is for the Developer's benefit, not ours. The Test Server is used to test new builds for publish to the live servers. As such, the code of the Test Server needs to be as close to the code of the Live servers as possible.
If they were to include code to allow us to level on Test, they would either need to include it on Live (even if it were disabled), or they would be risking a whole host of undetectable Live bugs every time they pushed a patch to the Live servers from Test, as the code is not the same.
tl;dr version:
Test is not for us to test any old thing we want to test. Test is for Paragon to test a publish before it is pushed Live. When we play on Test, we are volunteering our time to help Paragon minimize the bugs that make it Live. -
Since this seems to want to become a mutual admiration thread:
@Oedipus Tex: I love some of those character names and designs in your sig. Snow Watt, Joan of Arkansas and Sigmund Droid are awesome.
@Samuel Tow: I miss the costume design threads you used to post. I would love reading those threads because I enjoy your character designs and concepts. Not only would I get to see the community's creativity at work, all to come to the aid of a respected fellow player, but I would also get to read the well thought out character concept and reasoning behind the way the character looks and the way you want them to look.
Cheers!
Keep up the good work Devs, and keep up the good work fellow City of Heroes players! -
Quote:All the ranking does is tell you which group is #1 at earning Prestige.Right, so how do you determine who the no.1 SG is if you don't include prestige?
It doesn't tell you whether they are fun to play with. It doesn't tell you whether they are good people. It doesn't make them the "best" at anything but earning Prestige.
The most efficient way to earn Prestige is not to play the market and dump the influence thus earned into Prestige (the transfer rate makes it fairly inefficient, actually). The most efficient way to earn Prestige is to get as many people in the SG into as many farm teams composed only of SG members as possible and to run those farms over and over.
If that sounds like a group you want to be part of, more power to you. Have fun being #1. I'd much rather play with a group of friendly knowledgeable people running a variety of content and having fun playing the game.
To me, those things make a "good" SG, and that is all I need.
If you NEED to be "the best" at anything, you have other issues that cannot be resolved or cured in a game. -
Quote:Actually, the Developers have said that the Incarnate content would be significantly more difficult than any content we have ever seen in this game. The Incarnate Trials are not for the casual gamer (which is why I expect to do them rarely, if at all), nor are they for the unprepared.Oh, right, so I have to spend large amounts of influence to make my build 'suitable' for the trial and read up on how to do it? Yeah, Well done Paragon! They've always said you shouldn't need any 'type' of character to complete something, yet if we ended up with a team without many buffs and poor energy def or res then we'll stand a much higher chance of failure?
You shouldn't need a specific build, but you will need to undertake some trial and error to see what works and what doesn't until a guide that applies to you is compiled. Until then, maybe you should look over the guides that already exist and see if your issues are already covered. -
Quote:There used to be level ranges in which there never never seemed to be enough content. The contacts with never ending missions made it so that you could never run out of missions, and the experience bonus for completing them. It sucked to have to street sweep that last level to get up to level 45 so that your Contacts would give you the next round of Contacts. Thanks for the heads up. I don't really see the point in repeatable missions. If their is a point could someone please point it out.
(YES! I used "point" three times in that reply!)
Now, with XP smoothing, side switching, new zones and new mid and high level story arcs, this is not such an issue. On the other hand, the endless contacts are good when you only have a bubble or two to the next level, and it is advantageous to do one of those missions instead of a long or dual part mission and level up right at the beginning of it. -
Quote:Checking the Community Digest, where all the Community Rep posts are gathered in one place for easy perusal, would have answered the OP's concerns about the downtime.Reading the announcements won't tell you anything about that. It's in the monthly Producer's Letter in Dev's Corner or the News Archives of the main site.
Z has been making regular posts to keep us updated on the progress of the restore.
If I'm in the mood to whine about something unexpected in the game, I usually go there first to see if my concern has been acknowledged or addressed before going anywhere else to complain about it. -
Quote:I posted a similar idea a couple of years ago.I was thinking, what if a hero wanted to join Longbow, PPD, Legacy Chain, or what have you? Or what if a villain wanted to join Knives of Artimus, Carnival of Shadows, Crey, or any other villain faction or gang? Wouldn't it be fun to be able to? Then whatever faction you join for those that apply they would not be your enemy in the streets, like they would not attack you, and might even protect you! I don't know how that would affect missions w/ those mobs tho. Is this a good idea? I hope so!
Basically, the idea went like this: Each faction would have a contact in each zone in their level range. The contact in the lowest level applicable zone would have an "initiation arc." Completing this arc would grant you a membership badge. Along with this badge would come an inherent power which would grant you Stalker level stealth to that faction that suppressed if you were in an instanced mission or you attacked them on the street.
Each faction had a story arc or two in each level range that you could only receive if you had the membership badge. These story arcs would delve into the lore of the faction and advance the faction's goals in the city.
If you ever join another faction (exception: Nemesis), your membership badge would be replaced with a "betrayer" badge which would generate a large ambush of that faction and send it after you (and you would lose your stealth to that faction), and from that point you could not receive missions from that faction's contacts any more.
Hero factions would be more forgiving, allowing you to keep simultaneous memberships, but there would be fewer of them. The net result giving villains more potential and varied content. -
You have been away for a while. The road from level 1-27 is much smoother and faster than it used to be. You can do it in a week or two if you play just a couple hours a night, focusing on just the one character, faster if you team rather than solo.

Quote:It wasn't removed, everyone gets the entire set for free at level 2 (or is it 4? it's early on, anyway). Thanks for all the posts!
Fitness I see was removed from the game, that's a curious change.
If you had Fitness before, those characters should have a respec which they can use to free up those power choices. Claiming a "freespec" is done by simply typing "/respec" -
You don't have anything to worry about.
It would be different if you had been spouting offensive stuff in broadcast or local (or unsolicited tell) or your bio had a bunch of offensive stuff in it (I have petitioned several young Hitlers).
You have simply encountered a twit. The fact that you seeme to be getting multiple tells from multiple people means that the twit has enlisted his or her friends to join in your harassment (or is simply spamming you from multiple characters). If they continue to bug you after a polite rebuke, you can reasonably report them for harassment. After that, /gignore them (and their buddies), and you won't have to listen to their stupidity any more. -
Quote:I may be misremembering, but I seem to recall agreeing to the EULA every time I logged on to WoW, AION, Champions Online, Stark Trek Online and Lord of the Rings Online. Granted it has been at least a nine months (Star Trek) and at most four years (WoW) since I logged on to any of those games, but it seems to me that EULA skipping is frowned upon across the industry.Just wish it was like other games and only had you accept the terms if they changed since the last time you accepted them.
The fact that you could skip the EULA by skipping the launcher in CoH was an aberration, not the norm. -
Quote:Their differences are mainly philosophical.I am still mildly amazed how forgiving the X-Men are towards Magneto.
Charles and Magneto used to be friends.
Even after all of the times they have fought, the closest Magneto has ever come to killing an X-Man is when he leeched Wolverine's adamantium out of his body (and Wolverine recovered and came back better, in my opinion).
Magneto has a lot of pull with mutants disinclined to like the X-Men.
There are still less than 250 mutants in the entire world, the X-Men can't really afford to turn any away.
And finally, Magneto brought Kitty back to Earth, at great personal risk. -
I think you mean successor, not predecessor.
Superhero games have followed (Champions Online and DC Universe On-line). Champions went free to play less than 18 months after it launched, which should give an indication of the quality of said game. DCUO has received mixed reviews. It is supposed to be very pretty, with some nice features, but it doesn't hold up to City of Heroes seven years of content, freedom of character creation or depth.
City of Heroes 2 might be being worked on (when asked about it at Comic-Con last year, the Dev team chanted the party line in well rehearsed unison), but it would still be several years before we see anything about it. The Devs seem to think that there is plenty of life in the old girl yet, and don't seem to be in any rush to split the playerbase (see: Everquest & Everquest 2) by launching City of Heroes 2 just yet. -

Quote:ProTip:Thanks I'll check that out, wow everything seems so different lol, last time I played on Champion I was in Stryke Force and one of the Div. Leaders just before it broke apart I left got too burnt out farming all the time !! But with some of the changes it's kinda exciting again !!!
Thx LG !!
If farming is boring for you, stay away from any SG that has a Prestige earning requirement. This includes almost all of the "Top Ten" SG's on any given server.
All "Top Ten" means is that they generate a lot of Prestige. It does not mean the group is "Top" in any subjective category, such as nice people, people knowledgeable about the game, or people that are fun to play with. For me, those three things are far more important than how much Prestige a SG has.
Before joining any SG, play with a few members so you can see if your playstyles mesh or if they are fun people. If, after joining, the rules of membership seem a lot more like work than fun, ditch the group and find fun people to play with. -
There are also caves on that island, trying going below the tree canopy and see if there are any cave mouths or structures. You may well be right above it, but the entrance will be at a lower elevation and slightly off to one direction or another.

Quote:Query: So, what did we do?muahahahahaaha I got a reply to this post.
"Actually, it's because, after my experience here, I have zero interest in socializing with butthurt *&*&*&. I've deleted all my messages and I'm moving on. You needn't bother replying. "
I censored the same derogatory term he used in this thread. I was going to tell him that I wasn't broken up over his departure after the attitude he demonstrated. But, since he said I needn't bother replying, I didn't.
I just went through the entire thread, and at the beginning we were polite and informative. We pointed him towards channels and servers he liked, and his experience with the game seemed to be improving.
After that, it seems we largely ignored him. I saw two posts in the last six pages where no one replied to or quoted him.
The two topics of debate were whether we liked comic books, and what defines heroic and superheroic in relation to City of Heroes and the usage of gender neutral pronouns. The last is the only place I really saw people getting bent out of shape, and the split seemed to be about 50/50.
What got his knickers in a twist?
