So since CoH is shutting down, the group I play with have begun looking for another MMO to play that fits our needs. However most of the games we can think of just don't fit what we're looking for. So does anyone know of a game that is F2P (not buy the game or sub), allows for character customization and has a bare minimum of at least 6 people allowed on a team if not 8+ people allowed on a team?
I apologize if I've placed this on the wrong board, but player questions was the only place I could think to put it.
Thank you in advance to anyone that can help. -
Quote:So.. what new mission types and what new ways to complete missions? The whole point of this thread is to not have generic comments. no "new powersets please" but instead scythe powerset please, or planetary destruction ancillory power please. So please elaborate and tell us what new ways do you have in mind for us to complete missions and what new mission types? This may have been mentioned earlier in the thread but...
New Ways to complete missions!!!!! New Mission types!!!
Levantera's Arc was a good start(til you went and put Drones in it)
I Was like awesome a mission where they want me to stealth through it without drawing agro. Then I found drones in every spawn and I was like that's just great, you can't stealth past those!!!
Reichman in the Cuda SF was also a good effort but probably too much so. -
I don't think I used more at all, and I think I got everything... well if I forgot something I can always come back. But heres what I think should be added to the game if and when it becomes possible and feasible to do so. (I know animals and weather currently aren't, but hey I can keep wishing for it right?)
Bases
NPC base raids - I've got all these cannons and turrets and I want to use them (but I really don't want to deal with PvPers) It would be nice to see that I've made big enough enemies out of the malta for them to track down our hidden lair and try to assault us directly (Of course I would leak the info so they could find me through the SG computer but thats besides the point, the point being shooting gunslingers and sappers with rikti turrets and stone throwers) Things like this would make a nice event for our supergroups and give them more to do together.
Base NPCs - to make the large bases we now have feel more alive and less empty.
In base access to - Trainers, WW, AE, enhancement shops
Teleporters to - PvP zones, midnighters club
a little more inventory room how about a SG badge for getting 50 + members in the SG which unlocks a larger storage container for the base? Give us a 2nd one for 100 too if possible. We already know that more items can be held in storage than a storage can handle, so if it drops below those levels you could set the total available for holding to drop until that number is reached again (items can still be taken out and the bins are still useable but this prevents abuse by inviting people to get the storage and then kicking them)
Larger teleporter room with the ability to hold more teleporters (3x8 or 3x10 maybe?)
windows and other in base decorations with animated textures to make it feel like you're base really exists somewhere. (windows could have underwater, city ground level, city skyscraper level, pocket D style dimension, magma, and numerous other styles.)
24 man Teams and raids for them
Hellion raid lv 15 - 25 (above that = exmp) - the hellions have summoned a dangerous demon beyond their control however an 8 man team of greenhorn superheroes isn't up to taking such a formidable foe yet as such you'll need a much larger force to take him on and take him down.
Giant GMs for the 24 man raid teams. Council meks, rularuu, massive demons, oversized nemesis contraptions (steam powered tanks with heavy artillery), rikti motherships, 2 kronoses combining to make.. I don't know.. maybe unicron?
Zones
Eden revamp - the devouring earth's effect has mutated the natural fauna, trees are now as tall as skyscrapers, the overgrowth has become even more out of control, man eating plants abound.
Dark Astoria revamp - the pantheon's rituals have slowly twisted this zone even further, parts of the zone may not even appear to be of this dimension anymore. You'll now see things in this zone that will make you question if what you saw was real. (random eerie noises, random human shadows moving in alleys (that turn out to be empty), objects moving in odd ways of their own accord.)
Underwater city - let us fight inside a domed underwater city, more points if we can go outside and swim in the water (assumingly only with a speargun temp power since many powersets won't work in the water).
Satellite - would be awesome to have a large zone based inside a satellite orbiting the earth with the ability to look out through windows and see the sun and planets. This could also offer more 5 mins til death opportunities. Maybe you cause something to happen and have 5 minutes to escape before you get sucked out an airlock into space.
Dreamscape - It would be amazing to go into a world where the devs could do anything whatsoever and make things look however they want without breaking immersion. Waterfalls that flow upward unnaturally colored vegetation, ice covered magma, dogs and cats getting along! There are numerous oddities that could be thrown into a dimension that doesn't exist in the normal world. This could connect into the coven that Warwitch had in some way, maybe as part of where they met together. Accessible through the midnighters club.
caves zone - not like the troll tunnels in the hallows but something more like the eden tf. Something much more massive with different sections to the caves. maybe even different levels/layers to it. Give us an underground city, a volcano and lava section, some crystal caves, and the obligatory waterfall in a cave ( with some lakes as well).
underground council railway - it would be interesting to see an actual subway in game, preferrably something built by a group like the council to carry supplies between the major bases in each zone. (maybe this could be a raid map rather than a zone, but it would still be cool to see especially if their transportation trains were armed to the teeth)
some other zone environments that would be fun to see: desert, swamp, snow and ice, jungle, a shrunken zone (you're shrunken to get into said zone)
Virtual Reality space (something more akin to tron, not the normal maps of AE) with a brilliant computer, but dangerous computer causing trouble inside, maybe as an alternating PvP zone. Basically heroes go in to fix the computer so it becomes good and begins work on stopping the villains and reclaiming the rogue isles, the villains then go in to corrupt it and implant a virus to make it evil. (Something like a hamidon style raid, except its only available to one side at a time) The side that the computer is against will occassionally be attacked by groups of powerful assault robots that randomly spawn in the villain groups to help and back them up. While the side that has them on their side would have random robots spawns in the city that you would back you up if you get into trouble. (note that within the zone, if enough people are present but are unable to defeat the computer friendly after a set amount of time AVs will spawn much like Recluse's vicotry, to help you out)
Powers
voltaic sentinel - increase the duration to 5 minutes at least with appropriate debuffs and end costs to balance that. Resummoning it constantly is annoying at the best
Electric control - base it around drainging the endurance of enemies and keeping it drained
Spear combat powerset (I want that most, but wouldn't be opposed to polearms, bo staffs, or scythes)
Single pet based AT - the boy and his dog if you will, you summon a single pet to work with and control from level 1 with a built in AT power (much like how PB's start with flight) Primary powers are your characters attacks and defenses, Secondary are your pets attacks and defenses.
animals - particularly for the AT would be nice to see these in game. Maybe give hellions some devil dogs to help them at their higher levels. Mechanical canines for certain groups ( as much as a I prefer cats I think dogs should probably be added first) and other group appropriate animals.
Customization
face customization - let me choose eyes, mouth, and nose rather than premade faces, in particular being able to choose the eye color seperately at the very least would be nice.
differing wings - It would be nice to be able to choose 2 different wings or to use a single wing for your toon. (before someone says this again, no I don't want to make sephiroth although the style of the baten kaitos guy would be kinda cool.)
Seperate arm choices, much like how the robot arm currently works. Choose what each side looks like seperately like having a long sleeve on one arm and no sleeve on the other.
Seperate leg choices (same as the arms)
Random
missions - escape missions, your group zones into a cut scene of a trap and wakes up in a prison, your goal is now to make your way out of the base that you're trapped within through any means necessary (mission completes when all characters have exited the mission). These misisons should have numerous stealth detectors and a teleport debuff preventing the use of teleportation. (save for maybe teleport travel) They should also block ouro, SG portal, mission porter, and any other easy escape devices
Weather - if its ever possible to do
GMs - A giant mutated freak tank thats attempted one too many raids on the reactor. (maybe tie his spawn into people completing the first respec) I would also love to see his normal cutter or hammer arms replaced with half of a bulldozer scoop on each side.
add a changing inf sink to WW based on the amount an item is put up for sale to help remove inf from the economy. Basically take the current rates and double them for any item Posted for over 1 mil, then increase it by 50% for anything over 100 mil. (note that I said posted, not sold for)
Mail sink - I keep hearing people talk about transferring items and inf through mail. Sounds like an excellent place to put some appropriate inf sinks. -
Personally I would love to see some of those 24 man story driven raids, but it would be nice if they started at a lower level than 50 especially since we can always exemp to see things that we pass up.
I think it would be great if the hellions accidently summoned something they couldn't handle (maybe something like the envoy of shadows?), and you needed a large group to go in and clean it up.
Also showing you needing 24 heroes to take out an enemy in the lower levels (15 - 30) and then giving you the same enemy later and letting you take him with 8 or less people would really add to the feeling that your heroes are increasing in power as they level. -
My question is, why is it so hard to just delete and remake him?
If it's because of badges I personally say I fully support the anniversary badges being made account wide rather than by the character. All other holiday badges you can just get as the holidays come back around.
If it's because you're afraid to lose the name that you have, I would also fully support a 24 hour protection for a name. Basically if you delete a character you can still remake it with that name for a full 24 hours before it goes on the open market for anyone to use. (assuming this feature doesn't already exist)
If its because of a costume we can already save costumes at the tailor so thats no problem.
and lastly if its because of level.. I'm sorry but that one you and everyone will just have to deal with and reroll. You can always just buy and use a rename token (we could use a 24 hour protection on renamed characters too) and change the concept of the character you already have then remake the toon you want with the powers you want. -
Eh i see no problem with converting inf to merits as long as its done right.
Merits remain untradeable
Neither merits nor tickets can be converted back to inf (short of purchasing an item and selling it)
Merits must remain quicker and easier to earn through tf and storyarcs than just farming inf.
Anything purchased with merits must be worth less when sold on WW or the NPC store than the merits used to purchase it.
So maybe something like 1 mil inf trades for 1 merit. So if you really want to blow your 2 bil inf on 2000 merits then go for it. Just means less inf in the economy to jack up WW prices with. -
I question this would work as well, but at the same time I really do miss the old faultline. Would be nice if you could start with old faultline, do a mission arc or 2 and have it change to the new faultline.
Or if you cured the lost on the streets you would stop seeing them spawning on the streets for your toon, or they at least spawned much less. (Yea I know there are still lost missions for about 15 levels after you get that mission, so maybe that phasing won't kick in til level 25)
All in all it would just be nice to see the missions you do actually having an effect on the CoH world. -
Don't really know if I'm for or against this, but how would the game connect deleting one character to make another?
Also, 2 little thoughts.
1. Why not make a "death mission" for deleting that character. Basically at any level you go and see a specific contact and take a mission that leads to the end of your hero or villain. Then when you go to create a character you'll have a special reward token saved from that character to be used on any character you choose to make.
2. Base the rewards given for your new toon upon the level of the toon that died.
lvl 1 - 9: 500 inf starting bonus to next toon
lvl 10 - 19: 1 temp power recipe (your choice) from currently existing temp power recipes
lvl 20 - 29: 1 common IO recipe (your choice)
lvl 30 - 39: All unlocked costume pieces for this toon available on next toon (if thats possible)
lvl 40 - 49: 1 respec (normal respec, not the freespecs or recipes)
lvl 50: 50 reward merits
All of these things would be stackable, so if you deleted a lvl 15 he would also get the 500 inf starting bonus and deleting a 50 would get you all of the prizes.
Side note: I'm just throwing stuff randomly on the levels to help illustrate the idea feel free to replace them with something that seems more relevant, fair, and/or less exploitable. -
[QUOTE=Memphis_Bill;2301282]Not sure about the "shadow between you and the monitor" - I see that just causing tech support calls
QUOTE]
Ah sorry let me restate that, I mean more of a silhouette, something that looks organic and at least close to being human. Depending on how large it is, they might also want to put in something to prevent it from showing up during a fight. -
Revamping Dark Astoria would be awesome, but only if they make it even creepier. Do not take away the fog!!
I think it would be cool to just be sitting there and all of a sudden a random object (trash can, bottle or some other normal neighborhood object) would just kinda roll up to you from out of nowhere and stop at your feet followed by children giggling or something equally creepy.
Or maybe if you're in 3rd person view you could see a random shadow pass between you and your monitor every now and then.
Have some random spook spawns that just wait for someone to get into viewing range then run behind a building or down an alley and disappear.
Maybe be walking near a window and have a random chance of the glass shattering (both sound and particle effects) would be even cooler if the shattering had a random chance to spawn an enemy or two out of the window.
It would also be nice if they expanded the underground tombs section in the graveyard to go deeper into some catacombs and maybe at the very end of them would be the entrance to the banished pantheons home.
Another idea I just had and had to add in. Going back to the window idea rather than normal NPCs I think it would be cool if it was a random GM/AV (think nemesis from RE, or Pyramid head from silent hill) that would work like an ambush and chase you across the zone. Would be even better if he could chase you into any mission within DA as well. You could get two badges from him. If you are the one being chased the time from his spawn til his unspawn/defeat will count towards a suvival badge (stay alive a total of 10 mins with DA monster chasing you) and a badge for helping to defeat him. -
Quote:Only one? You know how fun it would be to round a corner and have all 8 of your teams nemeses sitting there like some sort of legion of doom waiting to do battle with youOh, instanced missions only, of course, and I'd go out on a limb and say one one person's nemesis at a time.
(note that I'm picturing just 8 nemeses having taken the place of the entire mob not 8 nemeses placed within an already large spawn)
I say make that another add on to the difficulty slider. How many team nemeses are allowed to spawn in your mission with options to allow anywhere from 1 to a full 8.
Better question though.. will someones nemesis become an AV on a large team? Personally I think they should stay as EBs at all times to stay equivalent to the character who is their nemesis rather than randomly jumping from strong to weak from one fight to another. -
So... I18 = orbital elevator leading to a moonbase with an icecream parlor which you defend from a new enemy group known only as The Madness?
-
When it explodes do you lose the temp power? Cause I think that would be a nice drawback to flying vehicles.

Quote:Only if we get a special option to put someones voice macros on ignore. They could really be useful at times if done right, but I have someone I team with regularly who has spammed chat macros in the past. I can deal with the chat, but I would rather not have to deal with something like...I would like to someday have voice macros. We have them in planetside and I've always loved them. 5 different voices to choose for males and 5 different voices to choose for females. The voice macros also usually include some emote or animation associated with them such as "Hello" Your character waves its arm.
"Help!, Help!, Help!, Help!, Not good but it happened, Hack their control console! Help! Zero chance against me!, We need a medic!"
within the course of 5 seconds or less. I already know from past experience that it gets annoying without needing to experience it again. -
Does a working base mission computer (or whatever that thing was called) count as something new?
1. Different door sizes (allowing for a larger door between rooms like we used to be able to make)
2. Removable floor tiles I mean all the way to the bottom til there is no floor. I want a base that works like the shadow shard, you fall, you get teleported back to the base entrace.
3. Base NPCs - with the prestige changes our base has grown enormously but it feels kind of empty. -
Quote:Yes they did raise it but if you look at when they raised it (issue 9) it seems more likely that it was raised so people could directly trade inf for invention salvage/recipes rather than going through the market. After all the previous cap was 99,999 correct? Imagine trying to trade someone 1 million inf for a piece of rare salvage that they have on them, it would have been rather irritating and thats far from the highest prices of anything on the markets.Once Posi took the reigns the official position changed. Similarly I think the dev view on twinking was once firmly anti, but once they relented and made it so you can bestow hundreds of millions of inf on a lowbie, I take that to mean that they rethought it.
That said it is also called "the trade menu"
Trade: turn in as payment or part payment for a purchase
I just grabbed one, but I didn't notice any part of the definitions of trade that seemed to indicate one person getting something without giving something in return.
Not saying that a global bank or anything of the sort could never happen or that it isn't on the devs minds. Just saying that there also isn't any evidence that it has been or is being considered. -
I agree wholeheartedly with this suggestion. A /jranger badge would be awesome! The only question is how it would be gotten within the game.
Oh and as for the no movie tie in badges. I don't care one way or another on that one. -
I like the basic idea, it could be a nice change for streetsweeping and such. How about having different tiers for the changes though.
tier 1 - enemies have a 50% chance of spawning 1 level higher
tier 2 - enemies in this area have a 75% chance of spawning one level higher or a 50% chance of spawning one rank higher
tier 3 - enemies in this area always spawn 1 level higher but have a 25% chance of two levels higher or 75% chance of 1 rank increase
(these are just some quickly, and poorly, made examples for tiers just to get the basic idea across)
basically it would take a certain amount of time for each progression, and you could also cap the highest tier based upon the zone. For instance Atlas could only go up to tier 1.
And to give us the rewards that samuel suggested how about a zone security specialist for each zone that would keep track of the enemies you defeat in zone and assign points based on your level, the enemies level, the tier of the area, etc. You could then trade in the points that he has on record for you for enhancements, small amounts of merits, inspirations, etc. -
I think you can guess whats coming from the title, but what if our leveling trainers could fight anything near them?
Basically the trainers could be set up as a unique type of NPC with attacks that would be used on any enemies that wandered within their range. However they would have a permanent immobilize on them that wouldn't break, making sure they stayed in the same spot to train people.
So would this be possible or does this game not allow for interactive NPCs (trainers, stores, TFs) that can also put a boot to someones head? -
Maybe instead of limiting these to horror movie monsters maybe they could be named EBs for each of the current villain groups. Maybe the occasional Hellion EB that spawns in AP, family EB that spawns in IP, and other similar zone based EBs.
Maybe also make it so that there is always one spawned at all times somewhere. That way theres no need to display a zone warning cause you know that as soon as one goes down another has appeared. And if you don't take that one down in an hour or so he'll leave and another would spawn eslewhere. The trick then is just figuring out which zone the EB has spawned in. Another thought, it would probably be best if there was one spawned for each side (heroes and villains) at all times.
And rather than having a badge for defeating each one, maybe just have a badge for defeating a certain number of them. -
I don't know if I necessarily really care if vehicles are in put into CoH, but I just had an idea so I might as well throw it out in these shark infested waters and see if it stays afloat.
What if:
1. Vehicles were limited to only aircraft simiilar to longbow chasers or sky raider skiffs.
2. Vehicles were made similar to kheldian transformations
3. Vehicles were not allowed to click on objects, doors, etc.
4. Missions were labeled as either outdoor or indoor with vehicles being unsummonable indoors.
Now onto my suggestion for the actual Power pool setup (assuming its possible)
Flying vehicle travel pool
Lvl 6 - Summon Vehicle and Teleport vehicle (these come together in one power) - Summoning Vehicle calls your vehicle to you from your lair, hideout, base, whatever. Your vehicle has 2 minutes of fuel, after that it will be teleported back to your base for a 30 min refueling time. Summoning Vehicle allows you to toggle your vehicle on and off without the recharge until the 2 minutes is up. Teleport vehicle sends your vehicle back before the time is up so it can be refueled.
Lvl 14 (requires level 6 power) Fuel efficiency - allows for up to 30 mins of flight time on 1 charged battery/tank of fuel
Lvl 14 (requires level 6 power) Assault vehicle - adds weapons for battle to your aircraft namely 1 gatling gun (30 rounds of ammo) and 1 assault cannon (5 rounds). These weapons can be reloaded only when your aircraft is sent back to base for refueling.
Lvl 20 - flight path - allows you to jump to one of the zones next to the zone you are in at the cost of 2 minutes of fuel.
Final suggestion, since flight and other travel powers would be useable indoors and this is not I would suggest this should get a slight increase in flight speed compared to fly. -
Do you have permission to place items in base with that toon?
-
I think it would help a good deal if we just got some storyarcs in each of these zones along with a few new trials where appropriate. As far as the zones go in many cases I would rather seem them deteriorate further rather than being saved like faultline. The whole non city zone is just so much more interesting when we already have way too many city zones as is.
Perez - not sure what to do outside of storyarcs, but leave the trees alone. Don't care if they make it so you can fall through the canopy, but don't cut anything down.
Boomtown - The clockwork area sounds excellent I would love to see this. Also maybe add another council base like they have in the RWZ. This could even lead to some sort of council tunnels zone running between the bases (or maybe a council subway supply line)
Dark Astoria - With all the twisted Banished Pantheon rituals going on it would be nice to see the zone become more twisted and a little less real world. Kind of like how things shift between the real and evil worlds in silent hill. A few jump noises that can just play at any random time while you're in the zone might be nice too. You're walking along and just starting hearing something whispering but theres nobody there, or you hear a sudden scream, or a growl or numberous other cool things. This is the cool creepy zone of the game increase the creepiness factor.
Terra Volta - Outside of some mutations occuring due to the reactor (I would love a giant mutated Freak tank GM) I got nothing on this one.
Eden - I would love to see the DE take even more of the zone. Maybe they have some sort of odd power, fertilizer, whatever that makes plants grow (or even mutate) at amazing rates. It would be great to see the forest in this zone go out of control and end up taller than some of the skyscrapers in CoH. Throw in a few mutated immobile attack plants in the area as well.
Abandoned sewers - I think it would be nice to see the caves, Oranbega, and rikti strongholds tied in, but not sure how you could do that and not make the map huge. Would also love to see the Vanguard step into this zone a little due to rikti presence. Maybe set up 4 or 5 small vanguard posts the size of a room (could be in the entryways) then throw in some hunt missions and arcs with a teleporter from RWZ and let both villains and heroes fight down there.
Another odd thought. Even though it doesn't necessarily work with some of the zone stuff I want to see. It might be interesting to mix the NPC fighting codes of siren's call and the zone sector changing code of Recluse's Victory into one or two hazard zones. Then throw in some temp power rewards for helping protect/save the zone in question. -

I must be the only one that doesn't miss base salvage.
[/ QUOTE ]
No I'm sure you're far from the only one. Getting rid of base salvage has made me incredibly happy. I've crafted 5 times as many base items in the few months since it was replaced as I had in the 2 or 3 years since bases and base salvage were introduced. Its nice only having to find 3 - 5 items to craft something instead of 15 - 100. Not to mention you then had to get the right combinations of them to turn around and make the pieces to make another combination. Invention salvage is just so much easier to gather.
I wouldn't however mind if they brought back the middle man style of salvage for empowerments. That is the only thing that I think suffered from the change to invention salvage. -
[ QUOTE ]
How is this power customization? Yes it's weapon customization but I dont see how power customization comes into play. There would just be two sets of animations for each set, one with a weapon, one without. Heck, most of them can even use the same animations.
Like I said, it'd require new animations and a few weapon skins. Other than that, nothing else.
[/ QUOTE ]
It would require only weapon skins if its weapon customization like broadsword, Archery, Assault rifle, etc. However if you add any blasts in: fire, ice, psychic, etc then it becomes power customization. Simply from what we've been told say they wanted to put a wand in someones hand for fire blast. To do so they would need to redo each animation with the wand in the characters hand basically making 9 new animations. If you want that for each origin thats now 45 new animations for 1 powerset. Thats at the bare minimum, I think they also have to do animations regarding each powerset and whether they are flying, running, jumping, etc among numerous other parts required that I couldn't even begin to tell you on.
Note as I said I think thats how it all works going on my memory. I do however remember that making a blast come out of something like a wand did fall under power customization.
