Classic monsters

I have an idea for minor event.

You know classic monsters like Dracula, Mummy, Werewolf, Black lagoon monster, Big headed martian, grey alien (well not so classic but whatewer), Frankenstain monster, Mr hyde, killercar, etc.

Minor event could be something like this. At nigth time there lurking some of those human size monsters. It could be at (or in? Im not sure for grammar) random coh or cov map and stalking there for innocent citizens. Monster could be pretty tough but not too hard so you can defeat it for yourself if you are lucky.

No notifications in chat window, but some other hints. Maybe you can see an eerie light from dark alley, swarming bats or wet footprints. Perhaps bright full moon or something other unusual small phenomena. Point of those classic monsters is not too easy to find and if you are low level you had to be chance for defeat it. So similar level system like giant monsters, but not too hard.

Of course you get shiny badge for each of them. Collect the whole set.

I like it! Have them scaled to a Monster level like the Hatched Krakens on Abandoned Sewer Trial and it sounds like this is good to go.
I really like the idea of having subtle clues and hints that the monster is around instead of telling you that it's definitely there.

I actually like this idea.

Maybe in addition to the subtle hints have NPCs in the area say something about a creepy feeling, or that they saw something strange. Perhaps a music cue when you are near the monster, or a sound effect specific to the monster you're approaching (a wolf howl, bats squeaking, etc.)

This would be a really cool addition to the Halloween event.

Maybe even add versions of slasher flick villains. Obviously not direct copies, since they are all trademarked, but characters that are similar enough to hint at who they are supposed to be, much like the detectives in heroside zones are references to TV and movie cops. I'd say make these scaling EBs like the Nightmares or Assault Suits in Zombie and Rikti raids respectively.

We already have the Halloween event. And the Vahzilok, Circle of Thorns, Banished Pantheon, Croatoa, Council, zombie invasions, player characters...

Point is, we've got plenty of horror themed stuff in this game without having to resort to even more incredibly unoriginal ideas.

They are normal enemies, not lurking rare monsters. You can go and defeat cot's when you want. Point is to find some real rare things hiding in city and classics are just so cool for that.

If someone dont like to hunt them, so just dont do that.

edit. and almost forget most important thing. Only one classic monster at the time. Theres no two Draculas.

I agree, we do have plenty of horror themed stuff. Hence my suggestion of making it part of the Halloween event. They've been adding new variations on a them steadily over the years, this wouldn't be a horrible addition.

Its too easy to find burning houses, troll ravers, paladin construction site etc. We need something real rare and difficult to find. So you can play six months and maybe found two or three of let say about ten. Then you can be littlebit happy if you found all of the monsters. Horror theme is NOT point. Classics was my suggestion because I like them, but not important itself. Its nothing to go and collect troll ravers badge. Just go and take. No point at all.

Good imagery, some of the iconic modern representations of the classic monsters are trademarked (eg. the Univeral Studios Frankenstein, based on the look Karloff wore, or the Chaney Wolfman) so some care needed there to get the recognizable feel you suggest but avoid legal issues.

My scrapper doesn't need an AoE. She IS an AoE.

Super-rare and hard-to-find monsters for badges don't lead to feelings of satisfaction or specialness, they just lead to frustration. That is exactly why the zone event notifications were added in the first place.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

Perhaps this could be a halloween event (i can see a plot by Vlad Dracula), but as a regular event no. I dont see why the zombies are a regular occurance either, but overall i like it.

Indeed. Cases in point: Sally in Croatoa before her spawn rate was increased and Paladin construction site before the events notifications came out. I used to know people who had been playing for years and still haven't met with the construction site. It was really frustrating. So on that note:

Yes to new monsters (be they what may), no to the super rarity and/or hard to find.

Well... I think it could be fun like treasurehunting.

There's a lot of easyfind content. I cant see problem. Why can't be some more difficult but solofriendly things? I dont want all content instantly to my characters. Doing things could be more fun than just get them all instantly.

I would love some real Vampire action, but I think the Vampiri would get jealous.

Just try to get all the exploration badges without using Vidiotmaps, Paragonwiki or any other resources on the internet.

Now imagine if those badges only appeared at certain times of the day and you had to compete with other players to find them.

Most of the points I would have made have already been made by other people. I just want to comment on the "classic monster" part of the post. As BBhumeBB pointed out, many of the classic monsters' images are copyrighted and out of reach of this game. Some don't fit so neatly into the background of the game. (For instance, there's no sentient life on Mars in the game.) And some of the monsters from your list are in the game in an altered form or served as inspiration for creatures in the game.

From your list:
Dracula - Nosferatu and the Vampyri
Werewolf - Warwolves (plenty in Striga)
Creature from the Black Lagoon - Coralax
Big-headed Martian - Rikti
Grey Alien - See also: Rikti
Frankenstein's Monster - Paragon Protectors
Mummy - No mummy nor much Egyptian-based enemies that I can remember for that matter.
Christine/Killer Car - Also nothing like this either.

Jekyll and Hyde deserves a special mention. This story inspired every transforming character in comics. You'll see dozens if not hundreds of characters in game that can trace their lineage back to Jekyll and Hyde.

Maybe instead of limiting these to horror movie monsters maybe they could be named EBs for each of the current villain groups. Maybe the occasional Hellion EB that spawns in AP, family EB that spawns in IP, and other similar zone based EBs.

Maybe also make it so that there is always one spawned at all times somewhere. That way theres no need to display a zone warning cause you know that as soon as one goes down another has appeared. And if you don't take that one down in an hour or so he'll leave and another would spawn eslewhere. The trick then is just figuring out which zone the EB has spawned in. Another thought, it would probably be best if there was one spawned for each side (heroes and villains) at all times.

And rather than having a badge for defeating each one, maybe just have a badge for defeating a certain number of them.
