    CoH Beta memory

Just curious, but this video was from the alpha stage correct?

    ftp://ftp.coh.com/movies/coh_720x405.wmv

They had some interesting power choices. And the fog in Steel was pretty cool looking.
  2. I agree with OP.

I just take aid other and frankenslot it so I get good recharge, heal, and low interruption rate. WAY more useful than repair.

But I still think Merc has it worse. Serum is the biggest waste of a power I've seen in awhile.
  3. Demonic threat report was great. XD

    Nice work.
  4. I tend to find that my ninjas and my zombies die alot more than any other MM primary. So if you hate re-equipping, you might wanna roll something that does good with range. Or you can take a secondary like pain or storm which will drastically increase the survivability of zombies and ninjas.

With ninja's, you my (IMO) The best tier 2 pets, and some amazing single target damage. The AoE really isn't there, until Oni. Even he isn't a great AoE monster, but you can give him smoke flash + fire breath.

Zombies are a fun set to play as well, with good tier 2's.

Thugs kind of play similar to bots. They have good survivability (Except for the arsonist) and some really good AoE.

Mercs are alright. The damage is alot of little orange numbers, and you don't really have much of an offense until you get Commando.

While some of it is definitely skippable, I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on (for example) the Hess TF, the Eden Trial or the Sewer Trial just because they didn't know to go looking for them. Although you can introduce players to some stuff just by adding the relevant contacts, you don't guarantee that they will follow through. Also, simply having a contact added doesn't tell you what that contact will lead to.

So, I suggest a clicky button (perhaps you phone a City Advisor / Arachnos Co-Ordinator) which gives you a quick bullet list of Suggested Things To Do At Your Current Level. If a player is ever at a loose end or can't think of what to do, a quick click of the button would show a list of eligible activities.

For example, let's say you're a level 15 hero and are wondering what fun things there are to do at this level. You click your Suggested Activities button and get:

    * Positron could use your help for a Task Force! He's in Steel Canyon. You'll need at least 3 team members.
    * Ready to face other players in PvP? Head to Bloody Bay! Get there by helicopter from Skyway City.
    * Synapse needs help with a Task Force! He's in Skyway City. You'll need at least 4 team members.
    * Just want to clean the streets? You can always find bad guys to fight in Boomtown.

... and so on. The idea is to make sure new players always have a quick, easy way to find out about content they haven't done.
    This is so funny!

Not even 5 minutes ago, I had just closed out of paragonwiki after spending almost 5 hours going through that site and noticing just HOW much of this game I am missing out. I kept thinking "When the hell did they put this in the game? How was I supposed to find out about it? *sadface*

    I've missed SOOOO much.

So this is an excellent idea!

    /signed.

Is it worth investing the time, I used to play EVE, Knights Online, WAR, and Global Agenda

    I mainly play for pvp.

    Thanks for your responses
Not really. I'm a cry baby from I13 though, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
  7. There is nothing more awesome than a Build up, Headsplitter critical hit.

    Are we hated?

First off, I wanna apologize if this has been brought up before. I just recently returned, so I haven't been around the forums much.

So MM's are the most fun AT for me to play. I've played every single set extensively with a different combo, and I just can't get enough. (I'm dying for Demons)

But I've noticed it before, and really started to notice recently, is that other people don't like us on teams anymore. Is this just me, or do others get it too?

Like today for example. I decided I'd level up a Bots/Traps for double xp. After soloing so many levels of so many MMs, I wanted a break and decided to team. (My MM was 42 at the time). So I have my lft flag up. I get nothing. After awhile I see "lvl 40 team lfm". So I send a tell. It pretty much went this:

Me: 42 MM here, mind if I join?
    Him: lol no MM thnx.
Me: Umm okay, not trying to be rude, but why not?
Him: too many pets plus at is weak srry lol

Okay, I get it. The cluster of pets and fighting for space is REALLY annoying. So I let it go. Then a broadcast for AE missions shows up. I send a tell again.

    Me: Mind if I join?
Him: No, you'll just spread out mobs.
    Me: Right... Okay then. >>

A few mins pass, and he sends me an invite anyways. I guess he couldn't find anyone else. So he's a SS/Fire Brute, and basically tells me if I don't play right and I makes everyone fly around, I'm getting kicked. I should've left there, but I didn't. We get fighting the mobs, and he lays down his burn patch which scrambled everything. My Assbot used his missle which knocked like 3 critters away, and I get booted.

Him (tell): See why I don't invite MMs?

These are only a few stories, as I have MANY more. But it's just ridiculous to me that we have this banter about us, and I don't understand why. We are very effective in teams, but because of the cluster of pets, nobody wants us? I can't even do end game TF's unless I roll with a group of friends.

I only made this post because I fear it may get worse. If MM's are allowed to team hero side, is it going to be the same? People were crying about it in my SG earlier, about how we'll lagout atlas, and blah blah blah.

So, am I the only one? Or have others found this out too?

    Want AOE Monster

Like everyone else has said, Bots or Thugs gets my vote.

For a secondary, I would go /traps or /dark. The burn patches work very nicely with tar patch.
  12. Without a doubt, my vote goes for PvP.

I will admit, the previous version of the PvP system needed some balancing. Masterminds were way OPed, and Doms were nearly extinct, etc. It wasn't perfect, but I felt it was fun, no matter what AT you played.

Then they implemented the changes. Not only were they stupid, but they were unnecessary. Look at the zone pvp now. 80% of the characters are blasters. 80% of those are a combo of fire or Psychic. And no matter what I play, or who I see, they get slaughtered.

MMs are worthless in PvP. I spend all the time getting set up, only to be destroyed in 5-7 hits from a blaster, while my bots take away maybe 1/8th of their HP. My brute tries to stand toe to toe with a blaster, only to fall in 5 hits.

Diminishing returns was dumb, the resistance nerf was dumb, the overall PvP change was dumb.

If the devs were willing to change a not broken PvP system into a broken one, why not fix the current build? Or does Castle's pride get in the way?

I would really appreciate a sample build, as I have very little experience with the AT. Thnx^^
    Bots/Traps should do very well.

My Ninja/Poison also does extremely well too.

Provoke is always nice to get, but you can do alright without it.

I believe that's true. They are monsters at single target.

Will the -tohit from dark be enough to keep them up on harder enemies(AV)?
Possibly. I'm not sure how the whole tohit mechanic works with AVs. But it should stack with their defenses.

    Quote:
I read... somewhere that provoke was a good power to take. Why is this? Shouldnt i have stuff you know... not eating my face?
If you're in bodyguard mode, provoke is nice because the enemies will attack you instead of your genin, which often like to die in a few hits.

    Quote:
How bad is the AI in terms of ranged/melee attacks? Do ninjas have a prefered range to attack? (noticed a few kicks)
Ninjas are definitely harder to control than the others MM sets imo. You will need a goto macro to place them in melee range to get the most damage out of them. Otherwise, they'll shuriken and poison dart enemies to death.

    Quote:
Finally, is this a bad starter choice? Is there an easier combo I can level to 50 (mostly solo) and beat some AVs down with to cut my teeth on this AT?
Ninjas are awesome, and you can never go wrong with /dark. I went ninja/poison on mine, specifically because I wanted an EB/AV killer build. But I can see dark doing just fine.
  15. I seem to rip through mobs on mine. I've really enjoyed the combo so far. Especially on those big single targets, like bosses.

But I can handle large spawns easy as well. I haven't died in probably 5 levels. Granted, I have to resummon my Genin constantly, which is quite annoying. But everything else runs smoothly.

    New MM

    No love for Ninja/Poison?

I have one at 39 and he's been a blast to play. Especially against the big single targets. Elite Bosses are a breeze to fight. Granted my ninjas do die alot, as I just started slotting alkaloid, but it's been a fun combo to play.

    So I assume you've leveled a /poison mm yes?

And you would know that it's not a very good heal, and an endurance hog at that correct?

Are players not allowed to build an all out offensive mastermind and take the pistol attacks? He's playing the way he wants, and doesn't heal you with a subpar heal. Boohoo. Cry more.

They learned from the last Event. They camped the hospitals for I think it was Cuppa's party, or one of the prior anniversary shindigs

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not true. I was playing as Manticore during the Cuppa-thon and was responsible for spawning all of the critters during that event. None of the devs ever camped the hospitals. I spawned the RV versions of the Freedom Phalanx and Arachnos AVs at one point and I believe what happened was some crafty player managed to train some of them up into the rez stations. I was babysitting everything I spawned and killing off the things that were wreaking too much destruction. In the chaos, I lost track of a few of the AVs and just assumed that all of the players had taken them out. As soon as I heard over broadcast that they AVs had gotten up there I went up and killed them off. It was never us griefing you. At least not directly.

I suspect that this is what happened this time. Ghost Widow was actually the only dev who had permission to spawn anything during this event. I don't believe anyone working at Cryptic or NCSoft attacked another player. We actually have very strict guidelines about what we can or can't do while logged into a signature characters. So if you were attacked by Lord Recluse it was undoubtedly one of the AI critters spawned by GW.

We took a lot of extra steps to make sure everyone was aware of what was going on this time so everyone could avoid it if they wanted too. We had 8 or 9 instances of Pocket D open during the event and things were only being spawned in 1 instance at a time, with plenty of fair warning beforehand.

Ok, that's it. I quit. Even the devs want us dead.
  20. Thanks Lighthouse. Well written. Very excited about I10.

But I9 didn't pass too good in my book... I wanted more powers in a superhero game.

Very excited about the future of CoX

    I hate you Devs

Those jerks... Cold, heartless, jerks. I'm quitting.
  22. Loved the post bro. Really brought up some great points on why CoX has to be the best MMO out there in my opinion. You also forgot to mention our ease of soloing, and not the need of money. But speaking of soloing and travel times, there is another MMO that I'm thinking about. Not gonna be specific about names though. It rhymes with FFXI.

So you seek for a "party" for about 2 hours, because soloing is impossible in that game, with the exception of maybe 1-2 jobs. Some "Jobs" can't find parties cause no one wants them on their team. So after waiting 2 hours, you finally get a tell asking for you to team. You gladly accept. Oh but wait, you ran out of "Food" so your stats will be lower than the rest of the team. Better quit, cause only 1337 team members are allowed. Now you "Farm" for 5 hours, and manage to make some money. Now you wait another 5 hours for it to sell.

Finally after all that time, you now must seek again for another 2 hours. After getting another team invite, you have to travel to that zone, sometimes by airships. Now you can be late and miss your airship, and have to wait 30 minutes for it to come back. It is a 15 mintue trip one way, so yeah, 30 mins. Then you need a buy a chicken, and ride it to the camp, maybe taking 10 minutes. Then you set up camp, set up roles, and start to go. Now for an endless 6-7 hour team if its good, you kill the same monster over and over again. Pull...Kill...Pull...Kill...Mages rest for MP...Pull...Kill. The real nice aspect is that when you die, you lose 30 minutes worth of exp, maybe an hours worth in the higher levels.

    *Wipes off tear*

    I love City of Heroes/Villains.
  23. Nevermind... they gonna further away from what this game does best.

*Edited cause I found out new power sets aren't likely to happen...
