Nothing is more fun than watching huge spawns just melt away......
So, only dabbled with MM's so far. Speculating that Demon Summoning might be
great for AOE. Or is there one combo out there that just shined above the
others for this?

Thugs? Never played them they just don't appeal to me. Have to ask some one with more experience with the set.

Merks has a lot of AOE Full auto, frag grenade, LRM. Flame Thrower. I'm shure I'm forgetting something.

Bots has Laser Burst, Heavy Laser Burst, 2 kinds of rockets, Flame Thrower, Photon Grenades, Seeker Drones.

Traps has Caltrops, Posion Trap, Acid Mortar, Trip Mine, Seeker Drones. (Detonator doesn't count it SUCKS!)

Force Field has Repulsion Field & Bomb, And Force Bubble.


All that said You want to melt spawns? You want to do +1 (8) solo? You want pets? Roll a SOA go Crab Spider. AOE, Pets and Survivability.

Well, bots and thugs are both considered quite good for aoe, though with the bots you'll have to wait till level 32 for the good stuff. Don't be sure about Demon Summoning, I could see it also going very single target heavy, unless they give these guys fire type attacks and or foot stomp; could just be a demon mauling a single target, you know.

Bots/ or Thugs/ /Storm might be what you want. My Bots/Storm is especially fun in Oranbega maps, with all those CoT critters crammed into narrow corridors trying to bull though the Zone of Death in front of me, filled with lightning and fire and rain - only to bounce off Hurricane right back in.

I concur with Bots or Thugs with Storm as a secondary.

Like everyone else has said, Bots or Thugs gets my vote.

For a secondary, I would go /traps or /dark. The burn patches work very nicely with tar patch.

I have a thug\dark MM and for he can easily take entire x8 spawns down...and quickly

Looks like everyone's already covered the good ones. Bots/traps and Thugs/Traps is good AoE. Good alternate for traps is /storm. I think those two are best for AoE damage.

I can't see a Crab Spider getting anywhere close to the AoE of some MM's, or the survivability. Or the single target damage for that matter.

Bots/Traps is my fave, nothing beats the sight of an Incendiary Missile burning up an immob'd group of pretty much anything, and Acid Mortar just makes it all the sweeter.

Robotics/Traps is a pretty solid AoE build for V-side. Caltrops, Acid Mortar, and Poison Trap are all good for increasing AoE damage or making it easier to dish out by keeping enemies together while all six Henchmen deal out good levels of AoE damage. I'd say that the "worst" Mastermind for AoE would have to be either Necromancy or Ninjas, however Ninjas' single-target DPS is so high that if you know how to leverage it you can deal some high damage to large groups(the right secondary helps here), and Necromancy sports really good crowd control from its Lich while the other 5-6 henchmen tear up the mobs.

Thugs/Pain melts basically anything it comes into contact with with barely any threat to you or your pets. Once you IO out the build you'll be a nigh-unstoppable monster of AoE and ST destruction that is increasingly powerful solo and an extremely useful member of a team.

/pain eh? Never really looked at that one. Always thought Dark gave me great utility.
