I hate you Devs

Those that lived through the Villainous attack on Pocket D know why.

Just so you know, during the 3rd Anniversary party, several of the Devs took on the collective roles of Lord Recluse and his head cronies.

They then crashed Pocket D (3) and thrashed everyone in there.

We pushed them back, but only eventually, and only after everyone agreed to start being reckless and abuse the Pocket D Rez Chambers.

Really, though, it was a blast.

Thanks for the great time!

Jerks.

Those jerks... Cold, heartless, jerks. I'm quitting.

Yeah, jerks. I was chanting for them to spawn the Freedom Phalanx so we could have some good hero-on-hero action, but no go.

Aww now I wish I had stayed. I was in PD 3 too.

It also took a bit to get anyone teaming too. I finally just started inviting whomever was in the melee with me, then broadcasting. Somehow I wound up with 4 controllers on the team, and we still couldn't lock em down.
I wonder if anyone was suprized to see a scrapper with leadership and Stimulant.

The worst part? Peolple begging for a rez. Damnit boy! It took you longer to ask for that rez than it would have to run back from the hospital!

Best part? Everyone running to the Ski slopes when someone announced Recluse was back. Punk'd!

Definately fun. Need more events like this.

Might I acquire those pieces of paraphernalia in your possession?

That was kinda funny - and so was Recluse and his cronies attacking the hospital, which made using it a bit dangerous

They learned from the last Event. They camped the hospitals for I think it was Cuppa's party, or one of the prior anniversary shindigs

Someone shoulda taken a video...

I had screen captured the body count that was tracked in my chat box.

My room mate turned off the computer when I went to the restroom.

What!? Why!?

My Stories

Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.

They were having a social event. Argh! My room mate's mom is really pushy, and was trying get me to get more involved in their party (that, incidentally, they never asked if I wanted to attend).

I go to the restroom, I come back, the computer's off.

"Hey, Marcian, come join us for Bunco."

Bunco!?

Bunco!?

Did I hear you correctly?

Lord Recluse is making a play for Pocket D, the most famous nightclub in any universe, and you say to me, Bunco?

(Come along and listen to, the lullaby of Arachnos)...

So, let's recap. A group of developers (presumably) turned an advertised social event into a festival of griefing, exhibiting behaviors (fighting in Pocket D, camping the reclamators) that can and have led to suspensions for mortal players.

Just so I'm clear on this, is that okay because they were developers, or because it happened on the test server and not to anybody's "real" characters?

Just so I understand the precise configuration of the double standard being applied.

I do hope the outcome of this insufferable high-handedness was a towering scene that ruined the party for everybody. It's as much as the woman deserved.

Wow.

Just wow.

Actually, not just wow, though I wanted to say "just wow" because it sounds so dramatic and pretentious.

Some people were annoyed, yes, but I greatly enjoyed the chance to get to spend some time with the makers of the game. It was unexpected, surprising, and an event.

Why do people "kill" for yellow titles? They are proof that they got to hang with the Devs. Obviously, there are exceptions, but that's what I always thought was the case... So this, the "Attack of the Devs" was fun because it was the same thing: A chance to hang on the Devs.

They decided to pull a prank, though. No one got Exp. Debt. No one got Experience. It was completely harmless, and over in less than ten minutes. No harm, no foul. No one even had to leave the club. It was great!

Ya know that story thate veryone tells about how Statesman dropped Giant Monsters onto his griefing team mates?

That's a great story because it was so unexpected and glib. I just got to be a part of one of those stories. I couldn't feel more enthusiastic about it.

This was a time to let our hair down. If this was PvP, yeah, I'd be moaning, groaning, and bemoaning (since it is technically a different word) their actions. It was, however, not that. It was silly fun. I don't think they "beat us" anymore than we "beat them" later.

Your complaint will be more valid if this happens during a PvP event. Until then, have fun with it!

P.S. Don't forget, Dev monitored PvP event next month!

Naw, I just won Bunco all the way through and declared myself ruler of all that is Bunco. Then we played Mario Party, and my room mate and I broke everyone in that as well (so much strategy!).

Right. So the answer to my question is, "It's okay because they were developers."

That's all I wanted to know. It's just that I was once present for a very similar sort of thing in Pocket D, except it was just random guys exploiting a bug introduced by (if memory serves) the arena terminals, and it was Much Less Amusing than your post and the others in this thread implies. So I was curious as to what made this different.

I'm confused.

See?

Are you in favor of this event, or against it? The lack of smilies confuses me.

Had I been there, I would have been pretty annoyed, to be honest. I detest PvP and Pocket D is supposed to be neutral ground (it says so every time you go in), so to have a bunch of guys crash into the place and start wasting people would tick me off. If I had been at the party, I'd have left when that action started. It just doesn't turn me on. If Recluse and his pals wanted to show up for the anniversary event, great, but as far as I'm concerned they can keep it in their pants just like everybody else if that event is going to happen in Pocket D. Having it there sets certain expectations.

Now, if they wanted to have a party, say, out front of Agony Hall in Recluse's Victory, twiddled the zone's level requirements so everyone could get in, disabled the normal NPCs, badge markers, and so forth, and had the Arachnos and Longbow guys set up some porta-reclamators at either side of the plaza so people who got killed wouldn't have to shlep all the way back from the usual bases? That could be kinda cool. Party-slash-mayhem across the board without repercussions.

But to have carnage erupt at what's supposed to be a non-combat social event? No, that doesn't get it for me, I'm afraid.

I recognize that I'm in a minority - hell, I may constitute said minority, for all I know - here. And what the hell, I wasn't at the party anyway, so it's no skin off my nose. I was just curious as to what factor made behavior that would normally get a player suspended not only acceptable, but apparently great fun for those reporting on it. I guess it's the developer celebrity factor. "I got killed at Pocket D - but it was by Lord Recluse! Woooo!"

Which I can understand, I guess, but it's not for me. It's just as well I didn't make it to the party. That little prank would've ruined the fun for me.

Apparently so, but why? That's what I was getting at - what made this fun when the same behavior in the same place under different circumstances is a suspending offense? That's been answered to my satisfaction now. I get it. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I acknowledge that that has more to do with my own baggage. I have this unsporting hang-up about advertised rules being enforced.

I have bad luck with "come meet the developers" events. I always seem to end up in the instance where nobody shows up, or - as in the CoV end-of-beta event - start suffering client crashes whenever anything looks like it might be getting interesting. I think I caught a glimpse of Positron during the CoV end-of-beta before the hundreds of Mastermind pets and whatnot brought my video card to its knees.

So as "events" go, I much more enjoy the ones that involve some tweak to the overall game world that goes on for a couple of weeks, like the Halloween or Christmas events. They don't involve getting any personal developer attention, but they also don't involve the crapshoot of predicting which of the 25 Pocket D instances someone cool is going to drop into in the hour or so I have, or wondering when my system is going to start smoking from all the power auras. And, apparently, they also don't involve wondering if I'm going to get ganked "in good fun" by Lord Recluse.
