    Pretty much what Bill said.

A lot of people who have a particular character they're known for (Claws and Effect in my case) snag the name on as many servers as they can in an attempt to be the ONLY one with that name. I didn't think to do that, so there are Claws and Effects running around that aren't me. It annoys me slightly, but there's nothing I can do about it, so I don't worry about it.

    Zombie Invasions

The problem you're encountering here is the fact that most of the players that wanted the badges got them during the Halloween event.

The regular zombie invasions have 4 tiers of zombies to fight. Minion, LT, Boss, and Elite Boss. If you've been fighting them solo, you've probably only seen minions and LTs. Bosses and Elite Bosses spawn when there are enough people fighting the invasion, just one or two people won't spawn them. The numbers you're looking for here are 100 minions, 33 LTs, 25 Bosses, and 1 EB. As far as I can remember, there is no progress bar for these badges.

A low level character is likely not going to kill 133 zombies in one invasion without a team. The best advice I can offer as far as getting the badges is: Make notes of which characters have fought invasions before, and switch to them when you see an invasion notice pop up in your chat window. It will take a while, but you'll eventually get the badges. Around Halloween, people will come out of the woodwork with characters that have been created since the last event, so it tends to be a lot easier to put teams together for it then.
  3. The HP gap is the main reason neither brutes or tanks have regen.

Since the amount you actually regenerate per tick is based on your max HP, regen would have to be severely nerfed to not be overpowered on either AT. And the way things tend to go, they will nerf regen across the board in all likelyhood. I don't think regen deserves to be nerfed again, it has felt the nerfbat far too many times already.

Also, ever wonder why tanks don't have SR? It's because of the higher defense and resistance base they get compared to scrappers, brutes and stalkers. A tank with SR will end up above the softcap with just SOs slotted.
  4. Gotta play devil's advocate on this one.

Learning how to manage endurance is part of the low level game. If there were never endurance problems, newer players would never learn how to manage it, and would have a rude awakening later on when they didn't take Stamina and their end is bottoming out at level 35.

Also, before level 20 you are still a new hero or villain, and are still learnig how to effectively use your powers. Part of that is learning how to use your abilities in a more efficient, less tiring way.

The early game is extremely easy, the only challenge that exists at all is figuring out how to not run out of end. In the higher levels it is assumed that you have your endurance consumption under control and the game starts throwing more difficult things at you.

If something was introduced that made endurance a complete non-issue in the low level game, what would be introduced to make up for it? The game has already been made easier several times, via a low level accuracy boost, and an experience boost across the board. How much easier do you want it to become?

Sorry, but I really don't see low-level endurance as being a big enough issue to require any kind of fix. You don't spend all that much time below level 20, so there really isn't any reason to make it easier than it already is (which is pretty friggin' easy).
  5. I'd just put one in Neutrino Bolt and Irradiate.

Irradiate to hopefully get some more damage out of Psy Shockwave, and Neutrino Bolt to help against AVs and GMs. IMO it's not really worth loading down too many powers with it.
  6. Well, my 50's are in my sig. Add a DM/SR brute to that list though.

    Also have: Fire/Regen scrapper, Elec/WP brute, Spines/Fire scrapper (semi-retired), Dark/Kin corruptor, Fire/TA controller, Ill/FF controller, DM/Nin stalker, Thugs/Dark MM, Rad/MM blaster, Sonic/MM blaster, Ice/Elec blaster, Shield/SS tank, Shield/DM tank, Invuln/SS tank, DM/Invuln scrapper, Arch/EM blaster.

The list fluctuates from time to time as I delete and reroll characters, but generally if I get them above level 30 I keep them.

The only thing I don't have is a Dominator of any kind, just haven't found a powerset combination I like.

I also don't have any EATs currently, though I have space to make one if I decide to. Nothing against them, just too focused on other projects at the moment.

And for the record, although I know players do it, I hate to see DA characters without either Op Gloom or CoF. Seems wrong, somehow.
Should work nicely if you drop it right at your feet after gathering a spawn. They aren't going anywhere, so Death Shroud will keep ticking away at them. IIRC it's a area placement power like Ice Slick or Tar Patch, which means you can put it anywhere you want it, including right where you're standing.

Sometimes it isn't so much the power itself getting/holding agro as it is making it easier for your other powers to do so.
  8. You're actually almost better off going for typed defense on a Fire/Dark. You CAN softcap a Dark Armor to all 3 positions.....but you need one of the sword sets to do it (Broadsword or Katana)

There's a tank build that softcaps S/L/E/N defense while still being playable. It will be harder to pull that off with a scrapper, but should be doable. I'll check out your build when I get home today (I'm at work, so no Mid's), and see what I can do with it.
  9. I seldom post what I'm actually running (mostly because what I'm actually running tends to suck compared to the Mid's builds I put together )

When I post a build it's usually along the lines of "something like this" rather than "exactly this"

I don't consider myself much of a min/maxer. Or at least a different kind of min/maxer. I like to maximize my fun with a minimum of annoyance. Since dying tends to be annoying, I build characters to not die.

Thus I am maximizing my fun (that of playing the game) while minimizing my annoyance (caused by dying). If that leads to good builds, it's just a happy accident

    Knockback Build

Energy/Electric blaster wouldn't be bad either. Thunder Strike and Lightning Clap are both PBAoE KB powers. And I believe Havoc Punch has some KB in it as well.

If you take the Fighting pool, open it with Kick and actually slot it. Also, any single target melee attacks can be slotted with the Kinetic Combat Chance for Knockdown as well.
  11. You could also go with Spines/Invuln to represent the resiliency of his metal skin.

They synergize pretty well too. Invincibility gives you a defense boost and a to-hit boost based on the number of enemies in melee range, and your PBAoEs will shred them nicely, since they will stick around (Invincibility is also a taunt aura).
  12. As far as the original topic is concerned, as an Assault Rifle/Trick Arrow corruptor your tactic of Entangling (or Ice Arrow) to lock things in place for Ignite should work beautifully. Would have been even better a year ago when Ignite still had a 3 second recharge time.

You're not really having fun if you use Mids. You're not really min-maxing unless you reinvent the wheel. You're not really enjoying yourself if you play popular powersets." Well, all those rules and regulations don't sound like fun, they sound like bureaucracy. When I look at the personal attacks they make against people who dare to play differently, I get the impression they're more interested in feeling superior to their fellow players than enjoying the game.

That sounds suspiciously like a poster who is known for railing against Mid's any chance he gets.

I get the feeling you've read his posts too

However, the reality is totally diffrent...

"Here is my new build, read the Mids Print up and tell me what you think."

That to me, tells me people just want whats mathmatically strongest, WITH IOs!

News flash people!IOs arent required to play the game, and the game wasnt made harder because of there arrival. Its a waste of time and effort to Mids up a Character that you havnt even created yet, or carried past level 1, and even worse yet, have no idea if the Mids IO drawn up will make that build any better.

Iv seen people who use Mids fudge up a Tanker so bad, that my old SOs Tankers out perform them. Some people should just not use Mids.
So the crux of your argument here is that anyone who uses Mid's is an elitist Min/Maxer?

    Try this:

Take a step outside yourself for a minute and re-read what I quoted, as though you did not write it yourself.

Now, after having done that, answer a question.

Who sounds like the elitist here?

Every time you rail against Mid's and people who use it, you sound like an ***hole. Would you like it if someone said they were better than you because of something you do and they don't? Because that's exactly what you're saying, in so many words, every single time you post this crap.

Yes, we get it, you don't like Mid's. Give it a ****ing rest already. There is NO reason to derail every single thread you post in because you have a mad-on against something that you don't like.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

    Slotting Gloom

I just would like everyone's opinion on whether it's worth loosing Gloom's damage for a SS/WP Brute by slotting it with Siphon Insight for the Melee, Fire, Cold (1.88% on these 3), AoE, Smashing and Lethal Defense (3.75% on those 3) instead of Thunderstrike with it's 3.75% Defense on Ranged, Energy and Neg Energy.

I am 6 slotting Gloom and would like to use it in my attack chain, but my Defense is so low right now that I don't mind loosing DPS to gain Defense.

Also, I am in the middle of actually IOing out my first character but can only afford to do it one power at a time

Basically, do I sacrifice DPS for Defense by slotting Siphon Insight or are there better places than Gloom to find Melee and AoE Defense?

Oh, while I have you, is it worth trading out my Force Feedback: Chance for +Recharge in Footstomp to put the 6th piece of the Obliteration set into it to also get a boost to Melee, Smashing and Lethal Defense? (I've seen builds go both ways so wanted to ask about it in a specific non-contextual arena.)

    Thanks in advance!
Well, first off, you should be looking for typed defense for a Willpower character, not positional. This is because Heightened Senses is all typed defense, and it makes more sense to add to what you already have (typed defense) rather than start from scratch with positional defense.

My slotting for Gloom is 3 Thunderstrike (for the recovery and E/NE defense) and 3 Devastation (for the 12% regen bonus and the max HP bonus)

For Willpower toons, I slot Eradication in my PBAoEs (4 of them) and usually 2 Scirocco's to round it out. I'd go 4 Eradication, 1 Scirocco's Dervish (Acurracy/Damage/Recharge is a good choice) and the Force Feedback proc.

4 Kinetic Combat and 2 Crushing Impact (Acc/Dam and Acc/Dam/Rech) are my pick for single target melee attacks if I'm hunting typed defense. They're usually kind of pricey though.

Aegis in your resistance powers gives you a nice Fire/Cold defense bonus, and you can slot Reactive Armor for a little more defense. I go 3 and 3 if I have the slots to 6 slot them.

    Influence cap?

Must be nice....I doubt I'll ever see the cap unless I get lucky enough to have one of the high dollar PvP recipes drop. No real reason, I'm just not particularly obsessed with accumulating money (and I spend it too fast)

    Not impressed

Yeah, the Rogue Isles are usually laggier than Paragon City (where you are when playing hero-side). City of Villains came out about 2 years after City of Heroes, and they did a little more detailing graphically.

Having never played the trial version I'm not familiar with the window in the middle of the screen, but if it's anything like the rest of the windows you should be able to drag it elsewhere on the screen, even if you can't close it altogether.

If it were clockwork, they would chase you from the Bloody Bay helicopter to the Atlas Park gate, maybe I exaggerate.
No, you really don't exaggerate. I had a clock chase me from the yellow line in Steel Canyon to the tailor. I popped in and made a quick change to my costume, and the damn thing was waiting for me when I came out. It then proceeded to chase me to the green line. I suspect it would have followed me all day if they could use trains.

    Those little buggers are relentless.
  20. With primaries on brutes I like to take the tier 1 and tier 2 attacks early, and then respec out of the tier 1 later on after I have some global recharge. I've found that if you just take the tier 2 and skip the tier 1 entirely you stand around doing nothing a lot in the early levels waiting for that attack to recharge.

My DM/SR still has Shadow Punch, which I use as a filler and to help me build fury faster at the beginning of a fight. After I start acquiring some recharge bonuses I may drop it and use Mu Lightning in it's place.

Just some food for thought. That WM/WP build looks pretty solid though, shouldn't have much trouble leveling it.
  21. Cool, make sure you change every password you have, if you haven't already done so.

Just run vanilla lvl 50 missions and hope for one. (Don't have much
time these days to run on TF's).

Dev's Choice missions give you an option when you run them. You can opt for normal drops (which includes purples) or AE drops (just tickets)

Some of the high level TFs can be run in less than 2 hours, so those are still options (ITF, Kahn TF)

Your odds of getting a purple just running vanilla level 50 missions aren't very good. But you can do so if you want.

    Your thoughts...

I'm not going to share my actual thoughts on this....because this is a family forum and I don't want to get banned.

    Things you didn't think about:

You would have to upgrade the character slots on your "mega server" to 396. Yes, 396 slots. Otherwise you would be screwing the people who have filled up every slot on every server.

Losing my toon name would lose Paragon Studios my business. There are a LOT of people that feel the same way. My main character is also my name in the CoX community, losing that character name is akin to identity theft and I refuse to pay money to a game company that would endorse such a thing. Losing a name due to it being offensive or copyrighted is one thing, losing it because everyone got crammed toghether and someone else logged in their character with that name first is another, and I for one, find it unacceptable.

LAG. Massive amounts of lag. Not everyone has a top notch, state of the art computer to play on. If you cram that many people into one place, close to half of them would not be able to play at all due to the extreme ramp up in system requirements to be able to play the game, instead of watching a slideshow. There are over 100,000 subscribers who play CoH. If half those people can't play because their computer can't handle the massve increase in lag, you just lost 50,000 subscribers. The game can't afford to lose that many subscribers.

There are many, many other considerations that I'm not going to go into.

Lack of teams isn't a problem with the game, it's a problem with how you look. The population isn't "dwindling", it has stayed pretty steady for a while now, and is showing signs of growing. Going Rogue will probably increase that even more.

I have Dark regen slotted as follows

    Touch of the nictus:accuracy/healing
    Touch of the nictus:accuracy/endurance/recharge
    Touch of the nictus:accuracy/endurance/heal
    Numina's convalescense:heal/endurance/recharge

    Accuracy : 65.10%
    EndDiscount : 95.77
    Heal : 84.67
    Recharge : 85.95

In my build that gives :
    accuracy 168.6%
    End cost 17.3
    Recharge 15.3
    Heal 55.4% per target

These are really nice numbers for a heal.
Theft of Essence: Chance for +End is the single best IO you can put in Dark Regeneration. It checks to proc on every target in range, I have actually gained endurance using it before. I don't know what you would want to give up out of your set up to fit it in, but Theft of Essence is a REALLY good IO for that particular power, it almost seems like it was designed specifically for it (which it may have been, since there are so few enemy targeted heals in the game)

No problem at all. It didn't sound like you were being dumb about it, just that you were worried about the wrong things too early. I usually take Stamina around level 30 or 35 (Scrappers or tanks may not get it at all because they have access to Physical Perfection.)

I usually try to get everything I need/want from my primary and secondary by level 38 so I can focus on an epic pool if I so choose. I can slap together a build when I get home so you have a visual idea what I'm talking about.
