Knockback Build

One of the things I love about CoH is Knockback. My kids and I get a kick out of watching people fly into walls, down stairs, over railings and off cliffs - who wouldn't? That being said, I was thinking of making a purely KB maxed alt. Yes, I realize no one will ever team with me, but that is a small price to pay for my own amusement.

So what powers would be best for this? Energy/Energy is an obvious choice, but is there something better? What about power pools with KB? The goal is to have as many powers as possible with KB, and to slot them with copious amounts of KB boosters. I'm looking for a big, dramatic, bodies-flying-everywhere awesomeness. Red or blueside, doesn't matter.

FF/Energy Defender could be a good choice too. It's hard to outknockback Force Bolt. Then you add on Repulsion Field and Force Bubble and you can play bad guy pinball all day long. (Is it even possible to have more individual knockback powers than a FF/Energy has without dipping into epic pools?)

As for power pools, nothing but Whirlwind, I think.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Storm Summoning comes to mind but I'm not sure you can beat a heavily KB slotted Energy/Energy Blaster. I six slotted Power Thrust with the Kinetic Crash set and have when I hit a low level critter...they will fly so far that I will lose sight of them.

For pure chaos, Storm/Energy Blast or Energy Blast/Storm is probably the wildest combo.

I'd go with a Storm/Energy Defender. 6-slot Gale and four of your Energy Blast attacks with Kinetic Crash and you'll have good KB protection and a fair bit of global recharge, plus insane knockback and even decent damage. Add in Hurricane, Lightning Storm, and Tornado (and the fact that Defenders have higher KB than Blasters) and you'll have bad guys flying all over the place.

Energy/Energy is good too, but Energy Manipulation only has one KB power (Power Push)... the rest are stuns. Storm offers significantly more KB than Energy Manipulation does. You can even go Storm/Energy/Psychic and pick up Telekinesis if you want even more Repel to go with your Hurricane.

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

KB? Other than nrg/nrg blaster?

Bot/FF MM is awesome
Nrg/storm corr
Bot/Storm MM
Nrg/EA stalker would be ok too

Just putting out there that my Gravity/Energy dom is super fun to play.

If you do go Energy/Energy, any stun power can take the Stupefy chance for Knockback IO - that can spice up any Energy Melee build like and Energy/Energy Blaster.

When this goes off (20%) it really lets the target fly as opposed to the wussy Kinetic Combat proc that just knocks them over.

I'd recommend a Storm/Energy Blast Defender.

In terms of sheer number of knockback powers, you can't beat energy/storm or storm/energy. Energy blast gets 8 powers with knockback, storm gets 4. Forcefield only gets 2. Energy manipulation gets 1 (if you were to go energy/energy blaster). A robotics mastermind gets 1 knockback power of his own, and a few KB powers on each pet. There are only 2 pool powers which do knockback, kick from the fitness pool, and whirlwind from the speed pool. If you play a defender, you can take thunderstrike from the Electricity mastery pool for 1 more knockback power, for a sum total of 15.

Storm also gets the craziest knockback power of all: Tornado. It not only throws things through the air, it chases them down and throws them again and again and again and again...

I have a blaster on Justice named "Fusiondebt". The entire idea behind the build was to focus on the most annoying thing about Fusionette. So she's slotted for maximum AoE chaos.

It's not energy/energy though.

She's Energy/Elec/Fire.

Energy Torrent is slotted for Knockback, Explosive Blast is slotted for Knockback, Lightening Clap is slotted for Knockback, Thunderstrike is slotted for Knockback, and Bonfire is slotted for Knockback. My single target attacks are all slotted for damage.

Oddly enough she doesn't live up to her name. Knockback is extremely good mitigation in the hands of an experienced player. I got the mitigation of maximum AoE KB and the damage out put of a blaster. It's fun and very survivable.

Energy/Electric blaster wouldn't be bad either. Thunder Strike and Lightning Clap are both PBAoE KB powers. And I believe Havoc Punch has some KB in it as well.

If you take the Fighting pool, open it with Kick and actually slot it. Also, any single target melee attacks can be slotted with the Kinetic Combat Chance for Knockdown as well.

We had an old supergroup on Triumph we started called Pandamonium where the theme was you had to have at least one knock back/up/down power. It was fun with lots of storms, forcefielder, energy blaster, even a mind controller with telekinesis fit. The deceive and levitate really spiced things up, too.

Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.

I'll probably be the only one to recommend a Kinetics/Energy defender. Your damage won't be insane, so the stuff you want to send flying will actually live long enough for you to send them flying a couple times. It has plenty of knockback - Repel is tons of fun, then you've got a cone and an AoE knockback, plus Nova. And it's easy to get high recharge from Siphon Speed so your knockback AoE is up more often, AND it makes you run super fast so you can go mob bowling.

And you get to refill your endurance from Repel hogging it all!

Storm/Energy Defender, then get Power Build Up and you can launch them into 'spess'.

Be well!

Grav/FF or Grav/Storm Controller. Grav's mass immobilizes don't put on KB protection, unlike other control sets, and has Lift, Propel, and Wormhole for launching foes flying in different ways. Singularity also has Lift and Kinetic's Repel, fun to summon in the middle of a packed mob.

As for the secondaries, everyone else already explained them.
