I like the super packs. Didn't think I would, but I do. I bought a 24 pack for myself right after Christmas, on my birthday, and one after I'd worked waaaaay too much overtime.
These are splurges, and what I get from them are luxury items. I really enjoy having a stash of unslotters, the enhancement (and other) boosters, reward merits, stuff like that.
But I think it's important to recognize that they ARE just luxury items. There is nothing necessary in these packs.
I think the devs got this one just right, actually. Helpful, time-saving stuff, which is in no way "pay to win". -
Hmm... can't say there is anything being discussed that sounds interesting. Sorta sad about that, really.
I suppose we need new armor. But am really melee'd out atm, so nothing interesting.
Will go a far, far distance to avoid post-apocolyptic nihilism. (Though, have wanted a pair of torn fishnets since I've started playing). I can make a perfectly fine Tank Girl with the snorkel we have now, so can't see anything there.
And... IP? Really?? Unless they make it 1/4 the size it is now, I'm still not going there, no matter what they do with it, or what it's populated with.
But, oh well. I like what we have now. And am sure there will be torn fishnets to buy... um, right? Glad to hear they aren't going to get mired into PvP discussion, though.
NOTE: Obviously, am just speaking for myself. If people like this stuff, great! More players, more joy all around, I'm very happy if everyone else is! -
I've enjoyed the heck out of being able to make such fun new costumes lately! And male jackets being ported to females has been huge, making certain types of characters suddenly "doable" where they were not possible before.
But I believe your question is referring to specific costume pieces, not general stuff we like. Specifically, 2 things really stand out for me:
1. "Club" hair. It's a bit bigger than most of the hair selections, without being silly-big. It balances out armor or boleros, or other "big" costume pieces that can leave female characters looking like they have itty-bitty little pinheads. The fact that it's also quite flattering to a lot of the faces we have is a nice plus - but it's the balance issue that makes otherwise "pretty good" costumes suddenly look extraordinary.
2. That weird little neck piece that comes with the Imperial Dynasty set. I don't use it a ton (it's a quirky little thing), but that little bit of wire and netting has made about 10 previously created costumes suddenly look polished and complete. I guess, like #1, it's not the thing itself (though that's fine) - it's what it manages to achieve to the overall costume effect. -
Quote:Is this a trick question?crabs are arguably the best characters in CoX. They have mezz protection, good defenses and some resistance. They have good team buffs, some debuffs, and amazing AoE.
simply put: crabs are tank mages, in theory the holy grail of characters
in the old days they were restricted to redside. But now you can get to 20 and switch to blueside.
but there are very few crabs out there on either side.
so why are you not playing a crab SoA?
And have you tried one?
Look, Dug, am delighted you found an AT you love. Really. That's just great! But if your intent is convince others of its greatness, perhaps you could try posting in the Archetypes and Powers section of the forums? General area if your intent is persuasion, or, if you are looking for those to just cheer you on, perhaps you could try in the SoA subsection?
Or is this an actual serious question? If this is the case, I'm sure you can puzzle out all on your own why people have a preference for certain AT's and playstyles, and less for others. -
Steel Canyon would look great with a facelift, but it's also fine as is, too. There are plenty of places no one ever goes, unless sent there for some particular mission/TF, at which point everyone groans.
-Shadow Shard
-Perez
-Boomtown
-PvP zones
-Eden
-Terra Volta
Any of these I'd be happy to see get a makeover, and get some use out of. Would like to see Shadow Shard most of all, though. It's visually intriguing, with (SSA excluded) unique foes, but the travel time is insanely bad. The missions there (yeah, there are missions) are pointless and my one attempt at playing there, I gave up after finishing out 4 or 5 contacts (I think. It's been awhile). There is a LOT of stuff there that can be remade, without throwing all of it out.
Would love to see more co-op zones, with hero and villain specific missions - and, as has been suggested, co-op missions with differing agendas. -
Quote:I've been playing for 6 years almost exclusively on Virtue, and have never experienced this before. I suppose if you want to hang out at the Ski Chalet or Pocket D where the RPer's congregate, then you'd hear a lot of it if you rest your chat on Local. That is extremely ignorable - just set your channel to rest somewhere else. Or, set a tab to receive everything your Local channel gets, and remove Local Chat from the list, then you'd see everything but the local chat you dislike.Im not sure this is even the right place to post this but maybe a developer will read it a say that my idea is a good one instead just a complaint so here goes.
Problem Role Players are always using broadcast and local chat to spam the start zone and any other zone they feel like hanging out in .
Solution make a chat channel that is for role play chat only.
That way us non role player can be left in peace.
Second problem how do I know if this person wants to role play or just play the game.
Answer you already have the help me and helper tags people can turn on. Add a third Roleplayer tag that all of them can turn on to let anyone who looks at them know at a glance that they welcome Role-play.
thats all I got to say If any of this sounds like a good idea or just hogwash feel free to let me know.
I appreciate your trying to take a proactive approach, by suggesting an RP channel, and flags for RPers. I think this would be a fun idea, and would probably get more RPers into the game, by way of a sort of "official endorsement" of such activity. I am not certain that's your goal, however.
I think many may take exception to your references to RPers not being "normal gamers." In answer to your question about how you can tell if people want to RP or "play the game," I would suggest that RPers ARE playing the game. They may or may not be running missions, however. If you are in doubt about this (which I sort of can't imagine. Are they Broadcasting "Lvl 22 team looking for more, for surprise activity"?) why don't you just ask if they are running missions, or whatever activity it is that you consider to be "playing the game"?
Personally, I've seen more of an issue from hateful people mocking the RPers, than I ever have from RPers themselves. -
Anyone tested whether the recharge from Membranes is working or not yet?

Quote:I think it is a VERY SERIOUS superhero indeed, who wears a cape over his spacesuit!Dink,
Late night thought: If it's not too much work, can we get those three new spiffy belt buckles in this pack ported into the Cape Brooch category. The bat brooch in the Halloween pack was a refreshing surprise and represents the only expansion this category has ever received beyond its initial release AFAIK. -
I am thrilled to pieces we're getting free respec's! I get my 8 vet reward respecs, but I'd be happy to get 8 more. There's always something I want to tinker with, or try out, or just plain change up because I'm bored with it.
I know other say they have tons laying around, but this is something I cannot even wrap my head around. It's like saying you have too many shoes! -
Quote:If they made Lint Control, /Rad would make even THAT look amazing (except for the inevitable complaints that Dust Bunny pets don't do enough damage ).I went with Elec/Rad because of the combination of Static Field+Conductive Aura+Choking Cloud. The stacking types of control are pretty awesome. Choking Cloud's problem has been that it takes a while for the hold to work, so you need something to start the control cycle. Then foes will sometimes drop out of the hold. Electric Control handles it well, because Static Field handles the initial control, and then the endurance drain keeps foes controlled when waiting for another hold pulse to hit.
Plus you get all the other goodies from Rad: Defense and Resistance debuffs, a great combo buff from AM, a self heal and that great panic button hold from EM Pulse.
I went with the Psi APP pool for Indomidible Will. That mez protection is needed to keep Choking Cloud from being turned off. Psi Blast and Psi Tornado helps a little with the damage, and Mind Over Body for some Damage Resistance. -
I dunno, but I blame the Zig. I mean, have you ever seen a guard there? Ever? Nope, nothing there but giant sewer tunnels, complete with unlocked swinging doors.
I feel that any architectural firm that would design a prison thusly, probably feels that all available resources ought to be utilized to redesign law enforcement buildings with the zenith of all crime deterrents: the car alarm. -
The free respecs are very appreciated by a lot of us.
Think it's fabulous - thank you so much! -
To me, it would depend on your secondary.
For a purely ranged set, I like to add some range to blaze, so it's closer to the range of my other attacks (I tend to go 4 devastations + 2 centriole hamis, but if someone has a better idea, would love to hear it!). So for playing at range, so I'd put the ATO set in just about anything other than blaze or fire breath. But that's me.
I put the ATO in fireball, because it's the attack I use the most. RoF gets a rech. IO after the 5 posi or ragnaroks. Also, ragnarok proc, "chance for KD" in RoF makes me giggle. -
At first glance, I'd ditto what the previous poster said. Your toggles have very little endurance reduction which would hurt in any build, even more so fire/traps.
Interesting slotting choices otherwise - enjoyed your ideas! -
Back to the OP's original question (again), I feel much the same way to a large extent. Thing is, I would not enjoy playing a fire corruptor unless I had some sort of mitigation from the secondary. I have a /dark and a new /traps, both of which are great for that.
I can see the appeal of a fire/kin (who couldn't?) but it would be my idea of hell to play. When I wanted a villainous /kin, I made it ice/, for the holds and slows. I found out later that the nuke (which I tend not to take on fire corruptors) with fulcrum shift is quite a lovely thing.
On the other hand, I have an archery/rad, which, while not bad, is pretty "meh" for me. It's a very solid team player (and beats the holy heck out of rad/archery defender which it started out as), it still lacks the "oomph" of a fire/anything.
I agree that fire/ has no mitigation whatsoever. None. But on a corruptor, you don't need to have mitigation from the primary - you can get it in spades from the secondary. -
If psi is just "ok" for damage, what (besides fire) would be better to pair with elec/?
/Energy and /Earth looked interesting for power boost, but the damage also seems so-so on Energy, and activation times on /Earth looks like it would be dreadfully slow.
Does anything have good damage and good synergy with Electric Control? -
Excellent guide as usual, Local Man! Your descriptions of powers and what they do/don't do is explained so well, that it's possible to know whether I'll want or use a power, even if it "disagrees" with your play-style preference. You just explain things THAT well!
In response to your invitation to share, I chose /Time to pair with EC when that set first came out, because I thought Conductive Aura might mitigate the endurance issues people mentioned with /Time. Which it did! I had no endurance problems at all, none, even pre-SO levels.
It's an incredibly safe combination to play, and just as incredibly painful to solo. OMG, it does almost NO damage! I don't expect most controllers to do much in the way of damage until the epics (at which point I fully expect them to be beasts, but maybe that's just me), but this was so bad it was depressing. I ended up shelving the thing 32 when Gremlins utterly failed to provide any kind of reasonable damage. So, it sat for months.
I recently duo-teamed with a friend playing a lower level, very, very squishy character who had trouble staying alive, even on teams. The friend not only stayed alive through all the missions we played, but actually raved (RAVED!) about what a great support set that combination was. I hadn't known it was that effective defensively, since it's hard to judge how much damage a team ISN'T taking. Just duo with a 22 fire blaster, and that perception changes.
Have not gotten up to the epics yet, but will keep you posted on whether "beastly" occurs or not. Thanks again for the wonderful guide! -
I totally agree with all the posters here. The CC has ruined me for other MMO's!
But I think at it's best, the CC isn't just about making nifty costumes (even though it does that). Costumes can tell you far more about a character than a bio can. A bio is about "stuff" (history, whys and hows), but a good costume really tells you who the character "is".
And like the OP, I have to say, I just LOVE watching the parade of costumes lately! -
Quote:I'm not interested in them, either. However, if the team were to actually come out with the vanity pet from the April Fool's post, I wold probably buy it.Personally, I'm also in the camp that has no use for vanity pets. I've never been one for the Pokemon approach to in game pets, but that's my personal preference. Perhaps I'm privileged in the fact that I can see that there is a significant portion of our Community who is excited by vanity pets and show us so. It may not be good for me, but it's good for other people who really enjoy this type of content.
I guess we all have our weak spots. I don't like stupid. Ridiculous, with a dash of wit, I enjoy a great deal. -
I'd vote new animations, if we're talking about pool powers (incl. epic and patron). Weapons? I don't care all that much - with all the f/x flying around, I can't generally see them anyway (there is always that ONE guy who thinks his dark red "blood" powers are so incredibly awesome, we won't care if we can't see anything else. But there is always one .
When people are refusing to be buffed, or refusing to choose armor that will keep their character alive, for no other reason than it's too ugly to stand to look at, there is a BIG problem. -
Quote:zwill, thanks for asking our opinion about this, seeing as how it's hypothetical and all. I have to agree with some of the previous posters, that the answer would be entirely dependent on what exactly we're hypothesizing.I think you underestimate our desire to expand the game in more creative ways.
Counter question:
Let's say, hypothetically, we introduced a new AT, but because of the amount of time and cost it would take to develop it, we had no choice but to offer it in the Paragon Market (a possible scenario).
Based on our established precedents, what do you feel would be a fair price, in Paragon Points?
I'm interested in your responses.
*To begin with, I'd use 800 pp as the base price, and work up from there depending on what the thing does. 800 is just like unlocking an AT is, and just like buying the purchasable powerset (this is assuming the unlock and the powerset are inclusive).
WhY? Because if it's not, if I have to buy both of them just to play one character, heck, I'm buying staff fighting, you know? I'm sorry if it represents far more dev hours, but I just want a new set to play with, and the fact that it might have taken you all more time to create, does not make it worth more money to me.
*BUT, if the hypothetical new AT is a one-shot, like a kheld, or a SoA, in that one really does reasonably have two quite distinctive powersets in one (PB/WS and NW/Fort), I'd put that as being worth 1000pp. Two-in-one does not double the cost - they are the same root powersets, merely the method in which they are played branches out halfway through the build. But they're still AT one-shots - I don't have 6 different primaries and 6 different secondaries from which to choose, or my PB would not still be lvl 27, after 4 years.
*If the hypothetical new AT is going to be incorporated into the general list of AT's, and primaries and secondaries are going to be proliferated and interchangeable, that is a whole other thing - that thing is far, far more valuable to me than any of the above. So, naturally, I want that to be free.
"Say WHAT?!" I can already hear you thinking, complete with a picture involving either a cat or Tommy Lee Jones. "WHY would that VERY VALUABLE thing cost NOTHING?!" Because as VIP's, we've become accustomed to having our AT's for free. It's not exactly an entitlement when a precedent has been set with 100% compliance from you, our beloved CoX dev. team - at this point, it's a standard. What it WILL do, is bring back old players. It will draw in new players. It will charge up your base. Then you start to sell everything else in higher quantities. Long-term profit, however. You could also charge for the set (800pp, you've established that) and say that the new AT is free with powerset purchase for VIP's, and 800 for premium/free. And, you could also explain to us that you will have to charge for the new AT sets for awhile, to pay for it.
Hey, maybe instead of charging everyone more, you could do like public television does, and have a fund drive. "We need to sell 1,000,000 Super Packs to get this AT launched!" You could even move that weird thermometer thing from the Tier Tree, and us that to show us how many more packs we'd need to buy!
Ok, maybe not. There might be a reason I'm not in marketing.
Look, I don't like being nickel and dimed. But I honestly don't feel the same way about investing money to make this a better game. Broadening the scope of options available to us like an entire new powerset seems like something worthwhile to invest in. Maybe the difference isn't just in what you charge, but how you present this to us, too? Is it a "special, limited-time offer, buy now!", or is it just you guys being straight with us, just like you are doing now?
Well, hypothetically speaking, of course. -
I am loving this guide! Can't wait till you get the dominator section done. Great job!
-
I was just kidding, the enhancement being so cheap. And yeah, I did submit a bug report. Was wondering if it's a "just me" thing, or if others have been experiencing this as well?
-
For some strange reason, there are no pet IO's available on the market today. Hahaha! So my dom., tried to slot a Nightmare IO into my wolf pet to get a bit more accuracy, and I couldn't do so - the power remains dark when I click on the fear set IO. Only Fearsome Stare lit up when I clicked the IO. Though my Haunt power doesn't need IO's, it also remains dark when I click on the fear set IO. Both Umbra Beast and Haunt descriptions "say" they accept fear sets.
Didn't see this in the known issues, or any other bug report, so apologies if this has been noted 8 billion times somewhere else.
Plus, now I have a Nightmare IO that can't be used. Darn it, that's 10,000 infl. I'll never see again! -
An interesting conversation! I've been having the same exact issues as the OP trying to make a (contemporary) Native American. It's really tough coming up with costumes using tan and brown with occasional (very) small pops of color, without making the poor thing look like she hails from the Planet Bland.
