exactly what he said, this is what dual builds are for. Just to explain a little at what Lith was getting at, with DR( say thank you issue 13), a lot of powers that might be fairly useful in PvE, are not so in PvP.

still a bit lost on the 'poor' soloing ability, I think a good argument can be made that the set works better for corrupters and defenders than for blasters. Both in beta and live, DP has seemed overall ok. Being critical of the set, I do think they should've swapped the tier 3 attack and Bullet Rain, and their is a slight pause between the tier 3's animation and its effect( maybe 1 sec). One thing I have noticed with the set, I really haven't ran into a mob I really dreaded facing with the set( try dark melee or dark blasts vs. ghosts, or psi vs. robots)

My view on this. yes the player was being an idiot, but like others I don't like kicking people especially on the last mission of a SF/TF, unless their idioicy actively causes deaths. At the very least I would've given them a warning
In terms of expectations,
Buff/ Healer type defender, I expect them to do the buff/ heal thing
Controllers/ Corrupters, I don't expect it, but would hope in critical situations they would buff/ heal
Masterminds, just a warning to blueside for when MM's head that way after GR, never invite a MM with the idea that they will heal or buff you -
thats easy empathy, I don't mind being team friendly as the next guy, but I do like being able to solo, and furthermore, I'm the very last guy you want playing a emp( or bubbler), in that I don't enjoy spaming buffs/ heals

Quote:i'm guessing its the extra AE, and to a lesser extent drain psyche and the extra PBAECurious about DP/ blasters:
Why do so many go with /MM? I mean, I can sort of understand /devices for a natural/tech feel and /EM because EM goes with anything...but I've seen so many /MMs now and during beta...
Don't think I ever saw /Ice, I saw probably a couple /Elec but not many now and I'm the only /Fire I've seen at all. Is there some kind of synergy or character concept everyone is aiming for that I'm just not aware of? -
-Dimension Shift
-Black Hole
-Serem
-Repel
-World of Confusion
-Flash Arrow (given its in a buff/debuff set, it really should be closer to RI or DN in strength than Smoke Grenade) -
two things( and I don't know when you last played)
-Issue 13, which gave us PvP 2.0, which most would give two thumbs down overall
-Combined with server transfers, currently you can only find any sort of pvp on freedom or virtue, with pvp being pretty much dead on other servers -
only DP and Demon Summoning have been confirmed, there have been hints of Electric Control, but no confirmation. My take is that any additional sets above and beyond those two are stretch goals.
I don't think this has been really addressed( and may be part of their stretch goals), above logic does indicate we may eventually see new Patron and Epic Pools, or they may just go the easy route and make the available epics and patrons based on equivilent ATs -
thats a pretty accurate statement, he made various comments, especially towards the end, if you put them together, his vision of an ideal MMO is CO

At this time I wouldn't bother with a Fort in PvP,
in PvP 1.0 they weren't half bad, maybe not the greatest, but could still be ok to PvP with
When PvP 2.0 first appeared, for a breif time with Elusivity, forts were one of the better pvp builds out there, even though control powers were minimized in effectiveness. However Elusivity was rolled back, which combined with DR made defense even worse than it was in PvP 1.0. Unfortunately at the same time, their damage was seriously rolled back as well in PvP. They would've been fine if only their defense or damage was reduced, but not both. Now, they just can't get enough damage in -
Quote:He may be thinking of zombie critters who are resistant vs. psiAren't ghosts weak to psychic? PWiki reports most of them as having a 30% weakness to it.

Was working on a Earth/Earth dom until other stuff came up, have him at 42.
At higher levels, it is a highly effective
It actually plays more like a melee, I will say I like the animation of Stone Shars the tier 1 Earth Assault power much better than stone fist( I have no I idea how they compare in animation time, but the tier 1 earth assault power just looks cooler).
If you want a more blaster like assault set, I'd recommend either Energy Assault or Psi Assault -
for what its worth, Flytrap used to be much worse, and was only really good for absorbing alpha's( I firmly believe it took given Plant Control to controllers, who generally depend on their pets more, for them to realize how bad Flytrap was), now its not bad, maybe not the best pet out their, but not bad for some extra damage( formerly you could be dying while your flytrap did nothing but watch)

Quote:well said, also I would add we already the co-op zones to look at, if you want to see what will happenIt has been discussed many times and the basic answer is that although a lot of people won't care and will continue to play the characters that they know and love there will probably be a drop in the popularity of some ATs.
The one this is most likely to happen with is the Defender. While Corruptor buffs are worse they aren't much worse and the extra damage (mostly from scourge) makes soloing a lot easier. People aren't going to start turning Defenders away from teams or anything stupid like that but it is likely that people starting a new character will choose a Corruptor over a Defender.
Tankers are already a dying breed since IOs and buffs make it easy for a team to manage without one.
Scrapper and Brutes are virtually interchangeable in a team setting although admittedly once you get beyond two brutes they can run into problems building fury.
Blasters and Controllers will probably still retain their current popularity. Neither has a direct Red side equivalent since Dominators can't buff and nobody deals out the AoE damage like a blaster. -
still needed? No it isn't not like before( I think the damage changes were one of the best changes they made to doms)
However I'd still say its a good goal for a Dom,
-AE controls have long recharges
-mez protection
-those AE's being extra strength
-the end aspect of it
But by no means, it is a most -
IMO Flash Arrow is the only power that needs to be buffed, when you compare this set to Rad or Dark( also primarily debuff/ control sets), two huge difference are
-No healing, and to be honest here, it wouldn't make much sense here
-TA has a very super weak acc debuff in flash arrow, which is closer to smoke grenade than it is to either RI or DN.
I think a decent argument could be made to give Flash Arrow a DN or RI Acc Debuff component -
Quote:I would buy the differences in missions( more travel required, generally more, and a greater frequency of hunt mish), except we the difference in merits in post-Strygia missions as well, and post Strygia content is similar to that of redside.I don't have too much issue with the current formula for merits, per se. Redside arcs really are a lot faster... someone mentioned arcs like the Freaklympics, etc. blueside, but those take a LOT longer than most arcs redside. I'm generally surprised when the merits pop up on my villains, as I always expect the arc to go on for longer.
Really, the things that MIGHT hold it up are the need to unlock contacts (which I really don't like... I don't enjoy the generic paper/radio missions, and hate having to do them to unlock contacts), and that there are only so many story arcs per level range.
For those touting the merit counts for Posi and Synapse, I suppose it's nice if you're a farmer. If not, I'll take any of the newer TFs, redside TFs, etc. If your only motivation to do Posi is the merits, that's a problem, in my book. The Task Force has far too many filler missions and is quite long and boring to play. I do it once on characters needing the Task Force Commander accolade, and that's it.
Really what I think many of us would like if for future issue for them just clean up a lot of that pre-strygia stuff, change it to the same standard as the post stuff, redo some of the early TF's( lets be honest here, Positron TF is pretty painful) and standardize merit reward amount, or at the very least tie merit rewards to mission complete XP rather than time complete -
Quote:Not really we already have a couple zones today where redside and blueside can mix. I do agree with the point for the most part hero AT's are specialists and redside are generalists except for stalkers( who i would call a specialist) and scrappers who I would consider a generalist ATIt seems pretty clear to me that hero ATs are much more specialized than their counterparts in the Rogue Isles. Looking at the ATs, you have the following:
Hero:
Defense/Damage
Damage/Defense
Control/Buff
Buff/Damage
Damage/Damage*
Villain:
Damage/Defense
Damage/Defense
Damage/Buff
Damage/Buff
Control/Damage
Since all ATs are going to be able to play on both sides once GR releases, are we going to see the specialist ATs of heroes replacing lynch pins in villain superteams? Are we going to see villain ATs that do more damage ovverrun some of the hero specialists?
I'm imagining some really sick superteams that can only be put together in co-op zones right now, like a tank and 7 corruptors. -
Quote:Having seen CO, its hard to imagine that was able to draw AND RETAIN a significant numbers of players from here. What will be interesting over there is how the outlook will look once it hits one year, since the lifetime subscription over there amounted to about one years subscription, and they'll lose that revenue. Overall, I'd say CO will go down before CoX, unless something drastic happens.I do not think CO made a dent. What happened is the 12 people who were unsatisfied with this game went over there with all their illusions of grandeur in believing that game would be this games successor... and now they are over there making fanboi posts.
Theres like 12 of them... in the sea of unsatisfied gamers. They are kinda cute.
I believe the things that hinder this game are not enough NEWS about upcoming expansions, and wheres the next free update? Question mark... and well... the economy in the US sucks right now.
Honestly, I think two factors have impacted the game, first is the economy, the second will be solved by GR coming out. -
I've always enjoyed dom's, but with the last round of major dom changes their pretty much exactly where they need to be, and are my most favorite AT, of course I admit I wouldn't mind seeing more power sets, ie Electric Control, Dark Control, Dark Assault, Illusion...

i have a number of defense based toons, and for all intents, defense doesn't work on them, much less a mom-defense toon. Based on some of the stuff I've seen in the combat windows, I suspect there's a little more going on than to-hit +acc overpowering defense
-
my view on this is that based on how they built the game in the very beginning, short of making a CoX 2.0, how PvP works will always be a problem, it will be interesting to see what decisions States will make over on CO that will impact PvP.

honestly i always thought the best means of distributing these recipes would be just use bounty to pruchase the recipes.
-
in my mind here is what needed,
1) defense vs. Acc/to-hit, I could maybe understand some of the complaints about forts IF defense was actually worth anything in pvp. go figure that IOed out various defense builds can get to maybe 60% defense w/o elude which may sound great, but aim has a 50% to-hit, and build up 20% unslotted, which is more than enough to neutralize most defense, and thats before Acc is factored in and not counting outside buffs, yellow inspirations or tactics. To me, max defense vs. max acc/to-hit should have a 50/50 chance, but thats clearly not the case.
2) uneven numbers, I really can't think of a good mechanic to handle this, maybe cross server pvp zones would help, or maybe make NPC's more hostile to whichever side has the lopsidded numbers when the numbers really get bad( this would be combined with zero debt in pvp zones)
3)the arena getting a major overhaul, combined with arena access from the pvp zones
4) remove mez suppression, and introduce unique low mag status protection IO's for each status type as well as TP and end drain
5) introduce IO recipes as bounty rewards, lets be honest here, SO's aren't even worth it anymore
6) Grant XP/ Inf when bounty/ rep is granted, given the period of time where bounty/ rep can't be awarded, I can't really see this being easily abused
