Is perma dom necessary anymore?

So now that we are well into the dominator upgrades and changes. I was wondering how many of us regular Dom players are doing? More specifically regarding perma-dom, Is it even really necessary anymore?

I have one perma Fire/Psi, he’ really badly specced ("roughly" 70% or so with six slotted hasten) and requires constant watching of the both hasten and the domination click-power-inherent. I’m much too lazy to respec him (playing the market gives me a migraine) and find having to micro manage domination is fun for me.

I’m also finding my other high level Dom’s are doing just fine without being perma:
- My mind/energy has can handle most EB level opponents solo and rocks on teams.
- My Earth and Plant Doms can take on a map set for a team 4 just using SO’s.

Also, in I’m not running into as many permadoms in-game as I used too. However, I’m pleased that I regularly see quite a few Mind/ Earth/ and Fire/ Doms (usually paired with /electric or /stone assault). I’m also noticing a lot less “dom hate” in the forums and public chat etc… All of these things seem like good things to me.

So do you all think perma-dom has gone the way of the dinosaur? Also do the Dom vets feel the AT is pretty much perfectly balanced now (i.e set bonuses/perma dom/etc…just aren’t needed to compete well with the other AT’s performance)?

Good question because I just started my first dom after 3 years of playing. While I'm thoroughly enjoying this AT at the moment,I already have my build on Mid's hence is it worth it to strive for perma?

Ive never really done anything with a dom past like lvl 10 (lol) But i will second the idea of more doms being played. They are a great asset to any team (permadom or not).

My doms are both perma and both rock. Nothing like transfinite stamina from the dom recharging and the fire-psi still farms well despite any /psi changes and the mind one rocks with perma. Not changing them at all.

perma dom isnt exactly necessary, but perma dom gives you mez protection and basically infinite endurance since it recharges so fast

Doms are a lot of fun. I play more hero than villain side, but I do like how domination works. My highest Dom is level 40+ something on a server that I rarely play on any more.

I don't have any permadoms, so I don't think it was ever necessary to be a permadom.

It's kind of like having permahasten, permaphase-shift (Man, do I miss that!), or purple IO's - it certainly isn't necessary to have them in order to play the game.

it was never necessary unless you intended to farm things that mez (like nems) or do the rsf mind dom thing...

from my pve experience: the huge recharge bonuses on my fire/psi and mind/ice both make permadom totally worth it for the things i do with those.

I eventually bit the bullet and went perma dom II. I used some extra infamy I had to nab two more LOTG (well that and some recipes/ios I had stored up for perma). After a little respecing my recharge is about 95%, that and six slotted hasten seems to do the trick. I'm surprised what a difference just a little bit more recharges makes. I thought perma was cool before..its pretty amazing now. I still have to baby sit hasten/domination..but nearly as much as before.

Thanks for all the feedback, helped me make my decision to go the next level.

i tried dominators when i first started the game a few years ago...I recently picked them up again now that i have some experience under my belt. Having played controllers a good bit blue side i have no problem playing a dom with out it being perma....that being said....the best example i can give is try plaing an illusion controller....is it neccisary to have perma PA...nope....but can it have a lot of perks and benefits ...sure

if you plan going perma...play with a few mids builds....ive got mine at perma at by lvl 43...only a couple lotg's and no purples...

I'm still playing Doms.

My post-I15 efforts have been a Mind/Elec (currently at 46 with just SOs), a Grav/Earth (currently at 40 with around 60% +recharge from sets) and a Fire/Earth (currently at 28 and rising rapidly; no recharge just yet, but lots of damage procs).

While I may or may not shoot for permadom on the Fire/Earth (I probably will), I will definitely be slotting for recharge.

Actually, in the post-I15 world, I think that's the key. Slotting for recharge is still very important in terms of availability of control options and a stable attack chain, but perma-Domination is no longer the key to getting adequate damage output. It's still very, very good though.

This is my experience. I went to my dom in the 30s and went 'Wow, what can I IO for now that perma-Dom isn't as big a boost?' And about ten minutes later, I realized that +recharge would probably still give me the most bang for my buck.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I wasn't perma-Dom before, but I do like that I can achieve more now without it.

It's still quite useful, as others have mentioned, for End recharge and mez protection. But it's just helpful at making you better at what you do best, instead of arguably being needed to balance Dominators against the other ATs.

While I may not necessarily agree that Doms were weak soloers compared to other ATs, I do think the change has gone a long way to turn them from a support class on teams to taking more of a primary role as a damage dealer and offensive crowd control. And as they really cannot support as a Corruptor or Controller can, I think that was a positive change.

still needed? No it isn't not like before( I think the damage changes were one of the best changes they made to doms)

However I'd still say its a good goal for a Dom,
-AE controls have long recharges
-mez protection
-those AE's being extra strength
-the end aspect of it

But by no means, it is a most
