What are the chances we will get more than just 2 new powersets in GR?
I really hope this is the case. In the interview here: http://www.massiveonlinegamer.com/ne...at-going-rogue
War Witch says:
Because he’s so powerful, you won’t be running into Tyrant until later on in your career. He is part of the endgame plan that Matt “Positron” Miller has in the works and it all ties into Praetoria. |
Also, and perhaps more relevant;
Q: Can we expect to see new character costumes and powers in Going Rogue? Absolutely. You already know about Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols, which are available before the expansion hits for those who pre-purchase it, but we’ve got some other tricks up our sleeves, and I think players will be pleased with the new power sets. As for costumes, you may already know about the Clockwork costume pieces, but there are others coming, too, not all necessarily Praetorian in theme. |
Electric control was mentioned at one point as something that was supposed to be in game sometime. Not sure if that will hit before or after GR. I'm guessing that it will be afterwards.
I wonder if this quote...
"With Issue 17 and Going Rogue, we’ve upgraded our look and the way we build zones (most evident in Praetoria)."
...implies that there's a new zone in I17?

Also, I reckon we'll get another round of powerset proliferation not to long after GR (probably I18 or I19).
Why.. why did she really have to say "Psyche?" Sigh. I'm embarrassed for all of us.

I'm really not expecting more than two powersets, personally. Nor am I expecting a new zone in issue seventeen. I can see them bundling electrical control if it gets sorted in time, although I don't think it'd be GR-exclusive.
That isn't to say I'm disappointed. Nor would I at all mind being pleasantly suprised. I'm really terribly excited for both issue seventeen and Going Rogue, whether we get only what we've been told, or we get a small country of awesome extra.

I'm very optimistic.
That interview is great, btw. War Witch is already off to a great start in her new role - but if you've been around the game for 5 or so years like I have, then you already knew she would be. She really is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet or have the pleasure to work with - we're still very lucky to her on CoH after all this time.
And she's a good writer to boot (yes, I read the book. Quite enjoyed it too).

All I know is that I would actually be SATISFIED if Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning were the ONLY new Power Sets. From what I've seen, they're going to more AWESOME than what we got from COV. Sometimes quality > quantity, right?
to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!
and so you think we will get more powersets than just the 2 mentioned?
|
We *might* get more proliferation than just Electricity Control. Proliferation is relatively easier than new Sets. And since GR's release date was moved back to make room for I17, there *might* be more proliferation.

No promises, no declarations, but an interesting hint.
Nope. Powersets just take too long to design.

I predict 2 entirely new ATs yep thats right not just power sets but 2 whole new classes of characters.
Well, consider that they are also working on a lot of new content for I17/Going Rogue. This almost certainly includes quite a few new NPCs (at the very least expect the Praetorian factions to get fleshed out) which in turn requires effort from Castle's team and BaB's team limiting the resources that they can bring to designing new player powersets.

You really think they will only include two powersets in a retail expansion (and make them available early if you pre-purchase, even) when they've offered more in a regular non-retail update?
Man, expectations have certainly been lowered. I guess that works to their advatnage if they deliver 'more' than what most are expecting.
But they did the same thing for CoV and still managed four new powersets before it released.

GR isn't a stand-alone game, so it doesn't need the same variety of ATs and power sets as CoV did.

Don't forget that CoV was a stand-alone game, so it really needed the same number of ATs and power sets as CoH.

And regarding a retail expansion gating the community, what would be worse: not having access to a powerset or not being able to team with anyone going to Shiny New Expansion-only Zone? I would tend to think the latter would be a lot more limiting but that's just me.
What do you think? Do you think the first expansion since CoV will really only have 2 powersets in it? Or do you think they are planning to *WOW* us with bunches of new powersets as time goes on here?
