NCsoft Response to City of Heroes player and fan suggestions
I'm getting tired of the whole "attack all other games under NCsoft" tactic. Everyone has their opinion though... mine is that GW2 is not a massive "fail". It's a new game... and people can come and go on it as much as they please since it is, thankfully, a free to play game. I think it's good fun and all. I am worried however... They could chop it like they chopped CoH. I expressed that on the forums and got my post deleted and a Strike One slap on my forehead.
And hell, we may as hell boycott all other publishers. :P They've ALL done terrible things.
Edit: Prolly should clarify some stuff too... I'm still confused as hell as to why NCSoft did not just sell the game, etc.. Then again, its a typical business dick move. They don't want competition so on and so forth. Anyone know the deal on the rights to CoH 2 and stuff? I remember awhile ago that NCSoft had that under copywrite or whatever.

That's the real fear though, NCSoft could snatch the game away at any moment. It's not even enough if the game in question is profitable. They could still "re-orient company focus" at any time, with no warning.
Bah, guild wars 2. Have fun jogging slowly across the landscape. You can amaze your fellow guildies by telling them stories about being able to run super fast, fly, and teleport for free in a far away city of heroes and villians....

Actually it doesn't look good for NCSoft. The first online magazines are starting to report about a big loss of players in Guildwars 2 and you will find massive "fail" reports about it already, just use google.
Saw this and here is what I think... Guildwars 2 is a very poor attempt at a game. It could never pull in the revenue that CoH has and could. I've stayed a paying client of CoH all these years to give the game support even when my playing partner insists on trying other games and I seldom get to play CoH. We did buy GW2 but will probably never play it or put more money into it. The game is a joke. No sense of personal accomplishment. My family, who contain 3 generations of CoH players laughed when I told them that even the beta for GW2 was not worth playing. Today I grieve for the one game that was an inspiration to other. Hugs the last of CoH. |

I regret saying anything about GW2 now... Rather than bashing on the games that NCSoft has, we should be spending time spreading info on how they kill off games. I feel like we've degenerated to a bunch of kids who spend their time saying how bad other games are in comparison to the game they play. (See WoW vs Any other MMo. It was an entertaining subject a long time ago, but now it's just old and childish.)
Every game has it's haters and lovers... And as much as I hate Aion, I'd hate to have it die and disappoint the players who love it. Same goes with GW2 and stuff. When a game dies it takes away jobs as well. NCSoft has no problem with disappointing both players and devs... We should be spreading that around rather than "Lolz nuffin comparz 2 coh othar gaems suk" (although I will agree that CoH was one of a kind. I'll miss the hell out of it. )

Not to get all hipster, but I was hating Guild Wars before hating it was popular.
I hated the original Guild Wars (working title: Guild Wars: Saga of the Brown), and frankly this one doesn't look any different. I don't hate it because it's NCSoft, I don't hate it because it's part of why CoH got dumped... I hate it because if it's anything like GW1, it's going to be dull.
That said, NCSoft has seen their last dime from me anyhow.
I totally respect your thoughts and judgements on the game. If you don't wanna pay another penny to NCSoft, that's fine too... just be sure to spread the word of their game killing behavior. We should at least make a point in keeping their history very well known, and its not just CoH.

Guys, this game could be a great sucess if NCSOFT makes a deal with a game console like Nintendo or Microsoft. COX can be a very nice alternative to DC-ONLINE is pS3. The NCSOFT managers are full stupid!

In hindsight, yes, it doesnt seem like a bright idea to not explore that option. prior to aug 31st, no one was trying to hear that. About 2010 and early 2011 that idea came up and it was quickly panned as impossible and defeatign the purpose of it being an MMO. That also could have been a reason they didnt go that route. "Man, you see the player's reaction when it was suggested to try to work a console port of COX? Note to self, never suggest going console again. Geesh, the poor guy got ripped apart."

any chance they will convert COX into a client based solo game? I have heard they have done simular things with other MMORPG's.
COH has been the only game i have played for 7 years without break in contract. I'm just way too old to go back to fast twitch games. And i hate Champions Online... And i don't like the mechanics in WOW...
I'd like to live just long enough to be there when NC Soft goes bankrupt as a reminder to other gaming publishers that it's the happiness of the customers that determines the rise or fall of each and every MMO.
I want to be there when their shareholders realize they allowed NC Soft to toss away one of their more profitable games, and when they are looking for someone to blame for their failing stocks; I'll be happy to direct them to this choice, and the individuals responsible for their discontent.
I've burned my bridges with those NC Soft morons.

NCSoft hasn't done that with any of their other games, and they already fired the people who know enough about this game to do it.
I wouldn't touch a CoX 2 if it had any involvement with NCSoft. Yeah, I'm THAT racked off with NC.

I can live without the game. I'm already (mainly) doing so. I went from logging in multiple characters multiple times each day to maybe logging in one character once or twice a week since the announcement was made.
But they sent 80 good, hard-working, men and women -- people with families -- to the unemployment line with no warning and no reason that I have yet to read that justifies such a decision.
Tell me I can't play a game any more?
Okay. I'm a grown-up. I'll do something productive with my time and money.
Mistreat friends I've never met?
We're done. And I'll be happy to tell the world why.

According to an interview with Robert Iger, Disney actually contacted NCSoft about purchasing City of Heroes. However, they were turned down, so they went with their second choice instead.

I still think there is something being unspoken.
They are really fighting us on this. --For what?
Do they really hate money that much?
None of this makes much ******* sense: The Players don't want COH to close, the gaming community doesn't want it to close. There is sufficient support to keep it going, and it's profitable. What's their motive for being ********?

Source?
or
Link to Source?
I've heard enough idiotic rumors not to trust anyone's word without reputable and trustworthy sources to back it up.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I apologize folks, I was trying to add some levity and thought this would be an obvious enough joke on its own. I was wrong, or I failed to take into account the way folks would read it.
The joke was - Disney called NCSoft and asked if they could buy CoX, they were told no, so they decided to buy Lucasfilm instead.

A joke in this thread that doesn't involve ponies?!? *Head Asplodes*
At this point the thread is pretty much a bunch of rowdy rabble hanging out at they're favorite bar that's about to be closed down and replaced with a starbucks.
I heard a rumor that Justin Bieber was PWNED in CoV PvP and sent an angry email to the NCSOFT CEO who is a HUGE Bieber Bro and cancelled the game in exchange for a private concert! (I just made this up but it COULD be true and makes as much sense as anything else I've heard from NCSOFT...)

Really? I heard the opposite -- that Justin Beiber PWNED the NCSoft CEO in PVP on his Stalker, and he just couldn't stand it so he's shutting the game down to get back at Justin.

Considering that they seemed to have ignored potential buyers...

...and that one of them might have been Trion, I'm really skeptical of anything that comes from Seoul right now. And definitely boycotting NCSoft from here on out.
