I'm going to start my own pinata factory and the only thing we will make will be the NCsoft logo.

Well dont want more people to lose their job, but before they go kaputz in the financial part, they have to bleed alot of cash out and since they have lot of cash on hand and very little debt, they probably have a huge credit line. I thik the only way they will have a chance of sinking is if for some reason their Asian market goes totally belly up, but before that happens, they probably will fire anyone they can, and the ones that made the decisions for cutting this game and others will still probably walk away with more money than they know what to do with and probably simply retire and live the rich life while the rest of the employees have to hack it out in the real world. Only people that would lose in that situation is the the people that had nothing to do with the decision to shut down this game.

I'll provide the venue.

Actually it doesn't look good for NCSoft. The first online magazines are starting to report about a big loss of players in Guildwars 2 and you will find massive "fail" reports about it already, just use google.

Blade & Soul will be a niche market from the beginning (no big money MMO on the western market, Asia Style MMO number 1.456.347, oversexualized women is nothing for family - oh yes, there won't be multi VIP accounts like in COH because of that; Tera was'nt a big success either on the western market), so I wonder what they want to sell and live on over here in the future?

Wildstar? Nobody cares. Just watch the response and interest of gamers (producing new MMOs, where you can only use 3 specific Characters with specific sex on jobclasses is outdated anyway).

And the money went to... Capcom with Dragons Dogma. I'm sorry, but I did not bought GW2. I just remembered at the shop, that NCSoft is shutting down MMOs when they feel like it.

That sounds about the right path they are on.

If fate sees fit to bankrupt NC wouldn't that eventually lead to liquidation of assets?

I wonder what would happen to City of Heroes should that happen...

Nc has always "starved" City by not giving it the budget and resources it should have had. I wonder what the game would have been like if it had a larger budget.

This.

There are 3 kinds of people in this world
The kind that makes things happen

The kind that watch things happen

And then there are those of us who keep asking "WTH just happened!"

The CoH IP would be given to one or more of the creditors, who could be open to the idea of selling it rather than sitting on it.

but in order for NCSoft to go bankrupt, something terrible would have to happen to their asian fanbase. They would have to really piss them off and they must mass exodus.

NCSoft have relatively few bills to pay outside the games they make and large amounts of cash and very little debt. They probably will kill every single game and fire everyone within those games except the main one before going bankrupt.

The way it's looking, they have a very solid fanbase in Asia, which vastly outnumbers what they lost here. Not to mention they seem to be very good at releasing games that Asian market gamers like.

But yeah if they are some how liquidated, then the IP for COH might be sold off but that doesnt mean it will fall into good hands or hands that wish to make another COX. Creditors probably would sell it to anyone with the cash. This mean that COX may come back in current form, or you might see COX lore with WoW like gameplay.

By a fast look you have an argument. But... please be aware, that failing to place products on the western market has a direct influence in earning money from your shareholders. So if NCSoft West will continue to write red and offer MMOs not selling on the western market, you can be sure it will affect the trust of spending money on the company in Asia too.

So I really do not understand at all, how they can make such horrible decicions, esp. when you offer products in a market, where you rely on the reputation you got from your customers. Games are not necessary to live, it's a fun market where they must face massive competitors.

True, but according to many here, NCSoft reputation in America is dead in the water anyways now. I doubt that is the case, and it will be buisness as usual. But even then I think they will survive even if they completely pull out. Probably not on as large of a scale as they are now, but I dont think the american market is as large to the point it's a make or break them. There are plenty of Asian companies that are public traded that sells not a single product here and is doing just fine. America is a signifcant part of te world economy but it isnt THE world.

All the more reason there should be concern.

They aren't the only player in the Asian market<s> and therefore some other Asian or even Eastern focused companies and their product<s> could stand to obsolete them.

...possibly without much effort.

Edit: their reputation might make it happen sooner than later.

True and possible, but that is the risk with or without COX. Maybe that is what they are gearing up for with the money they may get from a tax thingy off the IP. Which thye might turn into finance a bit for a new game.

It is not humanly possible for me to care less about what they plan on doing with whatever reapings they think they can get for City.

This whole mess says either contract violation or vendetta.

I'm going with vendetta. spite. plain and simple.

The real fighting hasn't started yet.

The real fighting starts when the servers go down, and when NC tries to peddle their products on any website that has....forums.... feedback.... expressions of public opinion...

THAT is when it's gonna hurt THEM.

Yeah, that is when it will get real interesting.

But I wouldnt get the hopes up too high. I mean 21,000 signed a petition is many in the gaming world. And then have to hope that the gaming world cares as much as the players of this game does. Remember even though NCSOft killed Tab. Rasa. many still played here regardless and the players of that game was just as pissed as the players of this game are now. Yet, people only mention that NCSOft killed that game, yet, played for years and put a lot of time into their product again.

When this game goes down, this is another chance to show that the players are dead serious and not just whining today until a new shiny game come out and they flock to give NCSoft their money again, like the 5-6 past times. If they stay true to their guns and truely do not bother with NCSOft, then maybe it might put a nick into their money flow. But the way other games shut down and the market kept going, I say within 6 months, it will be buisness as usual and NCsoft will still be around like nothing even happened like COX never existed. Unless the movement stops playing around, posturing, talking and get to the grinding stone and walk it. Or else, it's another group of angry players that will either fade away or buy another game under NCSoft belt, especially if they pull a low blow and bring out COH2. Then that is when it really get to see who was serious about not giving NCSoft another dime.

I don't think it will be so easy anymore in the future for the MMO business. I already stated that enough, this is not a big market, like marketing people are telling (don't believe them). Just read that article:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...-axes-120-jobs

I also read in an online magazine, that a lot of mmo publishing companies are already very caution about spending money in developing of new MMOs because of the failures from big titles published this year (Edit: You can read that in the article link too). Actually it was visible that it will end like that, it cannot work out if you offer every year ton's of new MMOs with the same content/clones and thinking you will make the big money like WoW (HELLO? Where should the players come from - if you publish more and more MMOs? The amount of players will be simply divided). When I want to play a WoW game, I play WoW. Is it really so difficult to understand? Why I must play a copy, when I can play the original?

On the other hand, inidividual content profit making MMOs like COH will be shut down, because of what? Every other hoster is happy to have paying customers and earning money in today times and not loosing their vip players (called whales), but NCSoft doesn't care. Because they do not even offer other solutions or another family MMO at least to keep their customers. They just get rid of them, because there is nothing! They just send off their angry customers to other companies and really believe they will come back for what kind of game or what reason? There is nothing anymore. An oversexualized asia grind game like there are not already enough on the market and another game in developing state, nobody cares about (just watch wanted game charts). The biggest joke is the following: even if you want to stay as customer at NCSoft, you cannot start playing Blade&Soul when COH is shut down, because it is not ready. Honestly, the people who made the decicion to shut down COH immediately that way it was done are totally incompetent.

Big problem is that every damn company sets themselves up thinking they can compete with WoW. And if that's your plan or expectation from the start you're going to lose 999 out of 1000 times.

Because anno 2012 nobody needs to compete with WoW anymore, WoW gained his playerbase years ago and will only live upon these gathered players. The only competition they can setup, would be an attempt to nick away a few folks from their shrinking playerbase.

Many MMO's have this situation, GW1, Elder, LA1/2, they only live on their current playerbase, as long you keep them happy and they stay, you are happy.

Simple, you ever seen new players comming to WoW at the rate as current new titles do? Not likely, they hardly get any new subs, they only keep their current busy and hope they stay around.

Actually, I know a LOT of people that are going to WoW or going back to WoW... Because CoH is closing down and they want to play in a game that won't get jerked out from underneath them. Heck, I'm probably going to download the freebie portion of it and give it a try this weekend.

You are correct though that WoW is not like to increase their playerbase by 20% any time soon.

I'll probably end up playing that some (again) since the guys at the office are pretty big raiders in WoW, le sigh. And here I was enjoying the hiatus.

And I wouldn't be too certain about that. Blizzard's internal roadmap that leaked showed two more WoW expansions planned (up to level cap 100), followed by a year or two of maintenance mode, and eventual shutdown. Everything else on that chart has been spot on so far.

I suppose it's possible they might change their minds if their upcoming MMO codenamed Titan is a big flop and fails to entice the WoW crowd to switch. Time will tell. Blizzard has a history of hits, but Activision's influence is slowly but surely working its way through.

well i figure we would be on issue 30+ as they could afford to get stuff done faster,we would have ultra mode 2, a full preatoria, fixed bases and base raids. PVP that worked great, just to name a few

Can I come to your party? Or should I just host my own?

Either works for me..

Either way, I'm partying.

It'll definitely be a party day, as that might free up CoHs license if it isn't already sold..

I'm not sure I'm there with you, yet, Rabbit-Stew, but, when the servers go down, and I can't find a suitable replacement for my spare time, I might be right there with ya. Bored and angry... Dangerous combo..
