All opinions appreciated

I would say that if you love shotgun, that you should continue with it. Hammer has a cone effect that matches shotgun's, or blades will provide a lot of AoE to protect you. I would say that if you focus on only 2 weapons, by the time you get to Transylvania you'll be able to finish the inner ring in a night or two (as well as get the skill points for the other weapons).

Approximate roles each weapon plays (note, there is some cross-over, but these are the main roles):

Tank:
Hammer, Blade, Chaos.

Support
Pistol, Shotgun, Elementalist.

Heal:
Assault Rifle, Blood, Fist.

A good place to start research for weapons is here:

You equip a weapon at 1 SP less than the weapon quality. However, you'll glance (miss) a lot more.

Also note that you can increase a weapon skill by only pumping up one of the two skills in the weapon. It takes 55 skill points to max out a weapon skill, 110 skill points to max out both aspects of a weapon. The Rocket Launcher takes 35 skill points to purchase/max.

Is there any similar negative effect from using talismans that are one quality higher than your skill?

Also, I have to agree with SG as far as using AP's. If you like the weapons you're using then by all means concentrate on them. The guide she linked on weapon synergies is excellent for getting a good idea how weapons will pair together. I'd say concentrate on 3 or 4 weapons to start with. That will give you enough options to have different situational builds.

I'm downloading a trial for TSW at the moment.

Looking forward to it, and hoping that it's going to grab my attention.

you can make all the consents on one charter. get the gear save and tweek the build and save it under the gear manager, I love this aspect of the game, 1 toon to rule them all, not 20 half built toons, I get a nice blue drop I can use it not pass it off to another toon for later. this free form building is great.

No I can't.

I'm talking character concepts not power/skill builds.

Certain costumes are restricted to faction so you need different characters to get access to them, and gender also requires creating different characters and has it's own restricted costumes.

Also from what I've seen costume "sets" don't have interchangeable costume pieces. Which means we can't take something we like from one set and use it with something else. It's all or nothing.

All this is very true. Though there are some rumblings that the art people are trying to find time to separate the pieces. On the other hand they aren't Dink.

Even if they are successful I doubt they'll open up the faction and gender restricted costumes pieces to every character.

I played a bunch yesterday on the last day of my trial. I'm really liking the Pistols/Chaos combo. I went through the other factions intros. I liked them all and was really surprised at the consequence of picking a female character for the Dragon.

But still I fear and still I dare not laugh at the madman!

No damnit I am not going to let you trick me into letting my curiosity spur me into making a female dragon to find out what you are talking about.

You could probably find it on the internet somewhere...

I'd imagine it is the same for both male and female. Only the player character changes in the cut scenes.

Also you can go to your account page to "upgrade" your account with more character slots... $10 USD each. Yeah, the sticker-shock got me too.

I broke down and bought the game yesterday. I am having fun kicking around Kingsmouth right now.

Learned quite a bit of stuff.. right now my main guy is elemental/chaos... but I have also picked up pistols.

One thing I really like is the repeatable missions so I can continue to get AP/SP and level up before I move on.

I'm still a little confused on the synergy between the skill sets and how/what to actually craft.

Crafting can be safely ignored for a good while, if you'd rather not think about it. And you don't have to worry about skill synergy unless enemies start to really kick your *** (which is usually around Savage Coast or, in particular, the beginning of Blue Mountain).

As long as you're not feeling overwhelmed, you should be fine. If you are, there's probably a lot you can tweak.

Glad to here I can get more slots when I want them. The price doesn't surprise me tho. I've been defending what Paragon Market charged us for stuff compared to other games for many months.

The price does leave me feeling disappointed. I splurged and put my budget into the red to pick up TSW and I only just got it back into the black. Hopefully I was successful in juggling some of my bill payments so my next due date will be after Nov 1. If not I'm gonna get hit with late fees and overdraft charges come the last week of Oct.

So high market prices means I won't be spending a lot on this game. I just can't afford it.

Just download the gear manager on Curse - works great! My personal fave is the valet; forget the weapons - gotta keep the outfits together...

While working from home today, I tried out The Secret World. Well, saying I tried it may be a bit of a stretch. Before I logged in, the game recommended updating my video drivers, which I did. Then I got in fine, but there is like a 10 minute opening cinematic, during which I crashed twice.

I just tried a third time. This time, I made it halfway to the initial waypoint before the crash.

Don't know what the issue is - These are the most updated drivers that NVIDIA has to offer. I see there is a patch schedule for the game tomorrow; I'll see if that helps, otherwise, I guess that's all of the chance I'll be able to give the game.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

ty ty ty -- I've actually been around a bit before but haven't been able to post since Freedom (not being premium donchaknow).

I had to come back and check in here when I noticed an influx of superheroes in TSW. So sorry your game is closing my friends - it is a great one!

FYI -- Katatonic, Illuminati, one step up from hostage. Put me on your friends list and I'll help all I can.

You very well might be having memory issues. I have XP with 3.5GB of RAM and thought I could run the game fine with mid-range graphics settings. After several instances of crashing after running out of memory, I turned down the settings and don't seem to be having any significant problems. Of course, textures are slow to load and zoning takes forever, but at least I can get around.
