Finger crossed. Not to be counting unhatched-chickens (who may not even be eggs), but wouldn't it be a kick if issue 24:Resurgence really was?

Can you elaborate on the significance of August 24?

Plenty of complications and financial implications arise from this kind of transaction (not accounting for global legalities as well) and there's a chance the game could be "inaccessible" after November 30th until such time as service is restored...

Tricky and I'm oversimplifying all the legalities and risks involved to do something like this, but I think NCsoft's intent to provide refunds is a pretty good reason to stay hopeful.
If this actually goes down as described, and I truly hope it does, then I'd resub hard.

And then harass the living hell out of Mr. Miller to fix solo incarnate progression. So, hey, he's got that to fight for as well!
Oh, yes. Brawling Humiliator can go back to being solo artist. Not that he minds being a tank, it's just the fights at that level are just... *over so fast.* It's way more satisfying to be surrounded and brawl them all into smithereens. Or that time with Chimera... that was epic.

Be nice to get better iXP for that mah efforts of survivablity and win.

On the whole shebang... Not getting hopes up to far. But this is better news than we've been gettin' in a bit.

Frackin' work. I gotta go. Laters.

It doesn't tell me anything in particular.

I agree that it sounds like Paragon is trying to disengage from NCSoft, an action I wholeheartedly support. If there is a "service interruption" as it were after Nov 30th until we can get reactivated again, so be it. I have no problem with that whatsoever as the game will be saved and out of NCSoft's hands.

As to the "Stuff", if that means all new server hardware due to NCSoft wanting the hardware I have minimal problems with that as long as all the software and databases (ie: OUR CHARACTERS) are not deleted or "lost". If we must suffer character loss and start all over again so be it, but that may be a deal breaker for some players.....unless we are allowed to restore our backups made with Titan's Sentinel downloader.

Keep up the fight everyone, last I looked the save COH petition was over 19.1 k !

...you do realize that they would have had to provide refunds regardless of the situation, yes?

Not to say to drop hope, just don't go thinking 'There's no way we can fail now!'

It's very important to keep up the pressure on NCSoft - keep spreading the petiton, and keep letting the media know out story.

The cutoff date isn't just pertinent to refunds. It potentially rolls back the clock on quite a few previously eligible transactions.

And as already stated in other threads, no they didn't have to give us refunds. They could have credited everyone's master accounts for use with other NCsoft products as originally stated by customer support. NCsoft reversed that policy yesterday for various reasons - and its probably best not to openly speculate why while negotiations are still underway.

And strangely enough, crediting everyones master account for use with other NCSoft products would have been *contrary* to what they had done previously.

And according to the response that my GF got from Customer services, on the day of announcement, said nothing about crediting the account for another game.

It did however say to pay attention to the forums and website for more details; and to be honest, I would believe the information from Zwill as and when he gives the information out, than any other information before hand (unless of course it was in an NCsoft mail blast).

*shrugs* But that is me.

Would this make City the first MMO to go from a corporate-financed game to an Indie game? :O

I got the same message the day after the announcement (I petitioned for a refund too). At some point since then, customer service began telling folks there'd be no refunds - until yesterday's announcement changed policy.

NCSoft had done refunds before. Like in the case of Dungeon Runners' shut down

Quote:
Dungeon Runners players who've been electing to play the game via its paid membership option will be compensated with a code for 30 free days of NCsoft MMO playtime, and digital copies of City of Heroes Architect Edition and Guild Wars Prophecies. Users who purchased multiple months will be refunded, Nichols says.
Fairly sure, they take a game's exit strategy on a case per case basis.

We have some reasonably heavy hitters helping out, with connections to the actual negotiations.

To add to this, and to further explain "Why all the hubbub over this MMORPG in particular, what makes it such a special snowflake?", the City of Heroes community is in a unique position. How we exploit that position as an opportunity, or how far we squander it in this limited time frame we've got, is greatly up to our deal-maker's ammunition--and we're their ammunition; without all of our crazy antics in the press, our friends in Paragon wouldn't have nearly as much traction. The most important thing is to keep providing them that traction. Online games get closed down all the time, especially in this market. What makes our situation unique is that we have famous authors and the wider gaming press and the broader online gaming community--and even to some extent the broader news media on our side. This kind of serendipity shouldn't have caught NCSoft by surprise at all, given the number of diverse genres, sub-cultures and the super hero zeitgeist permeating all things entertainment, which have been touched on so respectfully by our game. City of Heroes is practically a cultural artifact. That gives NCSoft two choices. Help preserve it, or lose face (in this case, consumer and stakeholder confidence) trying to set it on fire. If helping to preserve it means passing it on to another caretaker, so be it. That's what publishers ought to be doing with these kinds of properties anyway, if they don't like being reviled for dashing years worth of their customers financial and emotional investments.

We also have industry veterans from both the video game industry and comic book and entertainment industries speaking out on our behalf (and possibly involved in negotiations, although that is still firmly within the realm of rumor AFAIK).

No shutdown notice in the history of online games has ever been followed by such a loud and unanimous outcry. I've been keeping up with industry news for fifteen years, and this is some crazy stuff.
