*CENSORED* NCSOFT! KILL! MAIM! WHARGARBL! (Or not...please!)

Okay guys.

You're peeved at NCSoft. And on many levels, this feeling is fully justified.

But, can we PLEASE keep the angry "not buying XYZ" and "Don't buy ABC" and "I can't believe they replaced CoH with *FNORD!* man!" rhetoric down?

Right now there are really REALLY delicate negotiations going on over the future of CoH. And a bunch of angry "I'm gonna sabotage you!" talk is NOT going to help these people.

Please guys. This has been mostly civil for the past couple weeks now.
Please don't let every little dribble of NCSoft news that isn't "CoH is saved" become a call to jihad here.

Is this me telling anyone to sit down and shut up? No.

This is me asking, if needs be, begging for you to remember that people are right now working VERY hard to try and save this game. And a lot of angry rhetoric is simply a disincentive for NCSoft to be cooperative and amiable about the whole thing.

This is me asking you to keep a lid on your tempers so that these people's job is made as easy as possible. So that we have the absolute BEST chance of rescuing the game and community from oblivion.

If, on December 1st, the game is gone forever, and you still feel the need to go up in a ball of nuclear fire BE MY GUEST!

Until then, please remain civil!

Well, for one thing, NCSoft would keel over and die before it would ever bother to check these forums. Puh-lease. If they read them with any regularity whatsoever, they wouldn't have axed our favorite game in the first place.

And for another, how do you even know "delicate negotiations" or any negotiations whatsoever are still underway? Most of the Paragon Studios peeps openly appear to be looking for different employment in LinkedIn. Sorry, I peeked in there, because I wanted to know what kind of a chance we really had here of ever seeing CoH and Paragon Studios brought together once more by another publisher.

I hope like heck it's going to happen; I'm still hoping against hope, believe me!

But from what I can gather, the past tense is creeping in over there, and PS is a tight-knit, positive group that is spending the bulk of its time recommending each former member for new employment with glowing reviews.

*crosses fingers*

I think the best chance we really have is the more mainstream press places that we've already been hitting, if we want NCSoft to notice anything. The sites that cover many different games and issues show that the gaming populace at large is kicking and screaming, instead of just this rather small but devoted group of current VIPs seen on these forums here. I mean, they're going to expect us here to be upset, just not the gaming world at large. So I doubt they're even looking here in the first place is my point.

HYperstrike, I completely agree.

That said, NCSoft aren't idiots. They probably, at some level, realise that their customer base is pissed. They probably even expect some anger and residual backlash. That's going to happen at the "Anger" stage I suppose.
Let's be honest, there are those playing here that try any MMO a few hours then move on. I myself tried AION, uninstalled when I found it too grindy. I doubt CoH players as a whole want to play another fantasy grinder.

The important thing is that a bunch of people, nominally led by TonyV, are trying to be rational and using great outreach to get that done. I'm pretty...outside the whole thing at the moment. I wish everyone well in their efforts but I'm completely unsure how I can contribute to the cause.

Great post.

Though I would say for some of us--myself included--the declaration that we will never buy another NCSoft game is the literal truth. Not even because we're angry, but because we actually can't.

I have a Mac. CoH is the only NCSoft title I can run without an emulator or Boot Camp. Neither is a viable option because I don't own a copy of Windows, and picking one up just to play a free-to-play MMO would not be a wise use of my limited budget.

Reason 2 would be that CoH is the only title NCSoft has that I'm actually interested in. I'm not at all into fantasy RPGs.

I wish Star Trek Online had a Mac version.

Why aren't you dual booting with Windows on your Mac as well then?

Yes, keep your anger under control. I know it's difficult to do this, (I'm surprised I have been able to thus far) but we are heroes (Most of us at least) not Vigilantes or Villains.

And no firebombing NCSoft HQ. Not sure how much that will help our cause.

I can be civil.

If NCsoft allow the CoH ip to move on to a company that will continue to develop it, I may consider buying other NCsoft games.

If they don't ... well I won't be having any more dealings with them.

That was quite civil, wasn't it?

Like I said, I'm not willing to pay to purchase a copy of Windows ($150-$200) just to play a MMO, not even if it was CoH. I have literally no other use for dual booting.

I was fine with spending about that much money on a yearly subscription to CoH because it was something I would use extensively.

You don't know this.

Maybe things are also happening in other venues besides just the official forums? Naaahhh...

International business deals like this do NOT happen overnight or on a handshake. All I ask is for some patience.

Please.

I really wouldn't assume that. Especially since this board is one of the prime rallying points for the community right now.

And simply because certain members of NCSoft in a position to make decisions are bean-counters who probably have little to do with gaming, assuming ALL of them are, and wouldn't look at what's going on is...naive.

Also, a bit of courtesy and civility right now costs us nothing. Someone coming in and getting offended, even a little, by an ill-timed diatribe could cost us everything.

Boot Camp is software for dual booting on a Mac.

Also, technically, running the Mac client for CoH *IS* running emulation.

Eh, I think people are slightly justifiably edgy after it was revealed that the reason CoH got the ax was because of Blade & Soul coming States-side.

Ah, no. B&S was always coming to the states. This is the "they killed CoH to drive people to GW2" argument all over again.

Really? What does "realign focus and publishing support" mean in Santa Elf-ese, then? Seriously, the correlation of the B&S announcement following the axing of CoH with their "realign" language is obvious.

Agreed. Being civil is key during this stage.

Actually I had assumed that they realigned the monetary resources they had tied up in coh, which net them a modest but fairly flat profit in heavier marketing and other technical resources for guild wars 2, which has the potential to net them a higher reward given the massive hype for the game(mostly deserved, it is good) or, more likely, the reorganization refers to a host of business decisions, including both gw2, trying to promote aion more effectively, and promoting blade and soul, as well as other things we wont know about for some time, or internal things dealing with recent acquisitions that will only be understood by, and wont bore into a coma, people directly in the finance field. correlation is nice an all, but I dont think anyone needs to remind you of its relation to actual causation.

If anything, I'd expect that of the recent news we have heard from ncsoft, blade and soul is the least of the reasons anything happened, I doubt anyone in ncsoft expects america to get a sizable population for a eastern themed martial arts game with art designs by a guy who did some niche rpgs. outside of myself and a small number of other American anime/kung-fu nerds i expect even the most optimistic plans set it at niche in the west.

Let me put this slowly.

1. NCSoft abruptly axes CoH and Paragon Studios
2. Explains decision as "realignment" of "publishing support."
3. Two weeks later, B&S announcement.

So let's see, we passed the appearance, the swimming, and the quacking. It's official, this duck is a duck.

and nothing about a MUCH higher profile game being released earlier in the week of coh's shutdown with a gigantic marketing budget? or a very large purchase of a rival games publisher that was a large up front cost.or a soft market for a heavily promoted other fantasy title? none of that is wearing a blue sailor suit with a speech impediment, harassing a wabbit or transforming into a mech at the sound of the word "blathersmithe"? I can at least admit that I do not and will not know or be able to fully understand all the financial factors going into the decision, it is a specialized field I am not trained in. but if we are making wildly uneducated guesses, there are bigger and more obvious targets targets than a niche martial arts title being marketed in the land of the three color first person shooter

I really am more interested on are there other posts on titan network letting us know the situation that someone would like to share, good news is good news, but if I'm going to be able to help out, I'd like if info was shared to more than just the titan network, a lot of us still go here as a mater of habit, and while I dont not want to go there, lets all work together to keep the major gathering places in the know.

I'm not refusing to buy any of their other games out of anger, but rather out of disinterest. CoH was the only game they had that I'm interested in.

I'm with you. Civil is one thing. Trying to stifle (again) people expressing their displeasure over an "injustice" (hey Brian Clayton's word not mine) is quite another. Different people deal with injustice in different ways. I don't get where individuals expressing their opinions regarding their planned course of action regarding the purchase of NCSoft products is so out of bounds... or how a couple of idiotic posts in the forum are going to torpedo sensitive negotiations... unless you are going to hunt for scapegoats in the event of failure. Idiotic posts in the forum aren't such a new thing; telling people to pipe down multiple times kind of is.

Good luck to you guys (and I mean it). But these "you shut up cause we are doing stuff behind closed doors" stuff isn't endearing me to your cause... regardless of how noble it may be. Sorry Hyperstrike, nothing personal but I'm a free speech (within forum rules) guy first.
