    Refund Day

Nothing here yet, but I paid by VISA and they did say it wouldn't be instant for everyone.

Hopefully, that should clear up some of the gray matter.
Thanks. Saw this yesterday. It says they will attempt to begin automatic refunds today. I just wondered if anyone had seen any yet. It's almost 5 PM (Central Time, United States) here, so I thought I'd ask.

I fixed mine. I was trying to use my email address, not the account name. I've gotten used to being able to use them interchangeably on most sites.

    My bad.
  4. Fixed it. My Master Account Name was the same as my CoH account name, which is where I was getting the confusion.

I just logged in and aside from the fact you can't purchase more points, everything LOOKS normal. Still lists me as a paid VIP.

I heard someone say they were told it would take a week to get refunds? Is NCSoft sending out e-mails about this? I've never gotten an email from them about anything but /petitions. -_-

Thanks. Though I'm almost positive I used my email address for my account name. I was able to get into NCSoft Support's website (re: a petition I filed) using my e-mail address without a problem. I can't imagine I would have used different e-mail addresses for those.

If it doesn't clear up soon I'll send a support request.
  6. Well, This was suprising.

I signed in today (Virtue is showing green, which makes me sad) and was surprised to get my monthly VIP rewards: 400 PP and a Reward Token. The Reward Token applied without a problem.

I knew we were getting real world cash refunds, and that everyone was *supposed* to be toggled to VIP (I think), but for some reason I didn't think they'd hand out tokens and points.

    Very cool.

Has anyone got their real world refund yet? I tried to check my account status w/ NCSoft and it won't let me log in to my master account--it can't find my e-mail address in its database when I try to recover my account name. Something odd is going on there.
  7. I'm having this exact same problem. I wanted to log in and check my refund status, but it doesn't recognize my e-mail address as valid, and won't let me use my e-mail address to recover my user ID (which is, in fact, my e-mail address, if I remember correctly).

This is bizarre, as I got a message just a few days ago from filing a /petition sent to the e-mail address NCSoft says is not in its records.

NOt sure what to do except give up and hope it fixes itself.

We don't all have the cash/spare HD/patience/desire to buy and run Windows (and give up a significant chunk) of HD space to run BootCamp just for one game, unfortunately.

Bootcamp is a VERY expensive alternative to get a supposedly free game up and running if you don't already have it set up with a copy of Windows.

I'm curious now if my MBA would be supported by GW2. I hope not, as if it isn't, I'll have a better chance of securing a cash refund.

I have no interest in the GW2 genre. I came here for the superheroes.

for one thing, I don't believe its live yet, but as mentioned, while it can offer more than WP, if you want it, it can be a slot monster, and does pretty much require you to take everything to get that full potential, and does have clicky powers if your less inclined to clicky powers
This is why I like Willpower. On one hand taking all of the available powers--which you should--can be boring, as WP powers are passive in nature, once you've got them, got them slotted, and turned them on, you pretty much don't need to worry about your defenses actively again.

Of course, you need to keep an eye on your Endurance, especially around level 14 or so. It gets better later, but early on having 3-4 WP toggles engaged can eat it up in a prolonged fight.

Like I said, I'm not willing to pay to purchase a copy of Windows ($150-$200) just to play a MMO, not even if it was CoH. I have literally no other use for dual booting.

I was fine with spending about that much money on a yearly subscription to CoH because it was something I would use extensively.
  11. Great post.

Though I would say for some of us--myself included--the declaration that we will never buy another NCSoft game is the literal truth. Not even because we're angry, but because we actually can't.

I have a Mac. CoH is the only NCSoft title I can run without an emulator or Boot Camp. Neither is a viable option because I don't own a copy of Windows, and picking one up just to play a free-to-play MMO would not be a wise use of my limited budget.

Reason 2 would be that CoH is the only title NCSoft has that I'm actually interested in. I'm not at all into fantasy RPGs.

I wish Star Trek Online had a Mac version.

Worse: NCSoft credits are literally worthless to Mac users who play CoH, as CoH is NCSoft's only Mac title.

I literally could not use credits without spending hundreds of dollars on a copy of Windows, partitioning my HD, etc. Which I am not willing to do just for this.

NCSoft should not offer credits to Mac users. Of course, then it's unfair to force them on PC users. Which means NCSoft should not offer credits to anyone.

EDIT: Since posting, I've seen evidence that NCSoft is giving cash refunds on request (apparently), as per Post #66 below. This is great news, though I am still waiting for an official announcement on the rebate/credit policy...
  13. Had a wild few moments when I saw the CoH beta updating itself. I got really excited, since I know development has stopped ... but then I noticed it was the patch that was pushed on August 23. Not sure why it took so long to download.

    Anyone else see this?

Ah, I was afraid of that.

I'd like to think NCSoft will take that into account, but I'm not optimistic. We'll see, I suppose.
  15. A question I have, thinking about refunds.

I'm on a Mac. I only have Macs. City of Heroes is the first MMO I've ever played in part because they have a Mac client.

Do any of their other games work on a Mac, or are they Windows only?

Because if they're all Windows only, an account credit is literally, actually worthless to me, because I cannot actually use it for anything.

I would argue (and will argue, should it become necessary) that NCSoft has to pay me cash in these particular circumstances, because their reimbursement is literally without value to me.

And if that fails I'll look into canceling the credit card charges. I'm not sure what effect that will have since I paid once, for a year of service (this would be the first time I've ever had to cancel a charge, actually), but we'll see.

    Ditto. Good luck.

I've really loved reading your posts in this thread. And the game viewed through the eyes of a child has been a very entertaining and endearing experience. It's certainly made me appreciate it more. We got to be SUPERHEROES.

    And it was awesome.

Yes. I recently finished law school and am still looking for a full time job over a year later. It's not a fun time to have to be in the job market, and NCSoft just dumped a lot of people there with apparently zero warning (I have a twitter post from CoH Devs from earlier today talking about Dark Matter codes going up).

So my thoughts and sympathies are with the devs and all the other staff that just lost their jobs and still have families to support. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Thank you for a great experience, and good luck.

(There's a lot more detailed discussions of why typed defense is better for WP scrappers than positionals over on the Scrapper Forums, and I know I didn't see the light myself at first when I started with IO builds, but once I had MY "eureka!" moment I embraced "typed" defense and never looked back! )

Late edit, but nobody's replied, either: The only other reason I can see why people might want to 6-slot heals is to max out regen (which can be effectively maxed with just 3 slots, thanks to ED) or in the case of Doctored Wounds, maxing out regen and recharge -- which might be handy for a "click" power like Regen's Reconstruction or an Empath power, but the OP was asking about a Dark/WP scrapper above. And as mentioned, I'm rather scrapper- and melee-centric in my thinking.
You've all given me a lot to think about. Now I'm wondering: what sets are good for typed defense, and how should I slot them? I'm sure there's some good posts about this on the Scrapper forum. Could you recommend any?

I'll admit I've so far focused on slotting my attacks since I like to solo, and my regen and HP are already good enough that as long as I can do enough damage quick enough I can hang in a fight against any number of whites, up to 3 yellows, 1 or 2 oranges (depending on if I catch them off guard) and 1 red. Purples still give me a bit of a problem.* Slotting 6 Overwhelming Force into Shadow Maul makes me feel substantially more powerful. I'm not sure how much benefit the +5 END from the Atlas Medallion is giving me, but I haven't had an endurance problem in a long time (of course, I've also got Quick Recovery). I've only got 4 slots on Smite and they've all got a piece of Scrapper's Strike in them. I've got a 5th ready to go and am trying to get the 6th without bankrupting myself. Otherwise I've been sticking to SOs.

Starting out with 2 attuned sets has spoiled me a bit; I'm not used to thinking about what level IO I should invest in and when. I'm not even sure it's worth it, after having read a lot of posts, to bother with set IOs while I'm still in the mid 20s.

    * No idea why the Independence Port contacts insist on sending a level 24 into Terra Volta for street sweeping, where EVERYTHING is purple...
  20. Does no one six-slot any of the Heal enhancement sets?
  21. Thanks for all the responses. I'm really going to have to study these more before I make a decision.

Is there a reason no-one's mentioned the Panacea set? Aside from the fact it's horribly expensive?

Also, Mids appears to be Windows only, and the web-based one on that page says it's only current through Issue 16. Is it still usable? (I'm on a Mac.)
  22. Hello!

After getting the whole Overwhelming Force set off the Summer Event, I noticed how improved my stats were, and went on a bit of a Set IO binge. It speeds up the game wonderfully when you can 1- or 2-shot anything that isn't yellow or higher. :P I've pretty much stopped doing anything but logging in once a day to play the Summer Event, get the OF, and flip it at WW's for Scrapper's Strike and recipes and salvage to make more enhancements to flip for more Scrapper's Strike. I've got 4 of 6 so far.

So, yeah, bit of a binge.

Which brings me to my present puzzle. I primarily play solo, and Dark Melee isn't a hugely flashy set, power wise. I'd like to maximize the regeneration benefit I'm getting from Willpower, but I'm a bit confused about which IO Sets offer the best healing/HP benefits, and what Willpower powers they should be slotted in for maximum effect.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

AT, Powersets: Level 24 Dark Melee/Willpower Scrapper
    Scrapper's Strike: Slotted in Smite
Overwhelming Force: Slotted in Shadow Maul
Willpower Powers (So Far): High Pain Tolerance, Mind Over Body, Fast Healing, Indomitable Will, Rise to the Challenge, Quick Recovery

Right now, High Pain Tolerance has 3 slots and the rest have 1. I was waiting until I had a bit more information before I distributed more slots when I hit level 25.

It's my first Enhancement Set, so I don't know how good its stats are compared to others, but I've slotted all six of them into Shadow Maul (Dark Melee Scrapper), and I'm very pleased with the results. I've actually got a knockdown power where I didn't before, it does VERY good damage, and the recharge and endurance costs have been minimized nicely.

If you've got any characters that take Universal Damage Sets, you might want to try to get them. It's simple and quick (never takes more than an hour).

Your son might enjoy the "features," too. The Heist and the Colosseum fight are pretty G-rated, though you do kill some (vicious, horrible) dogs at one point and one of the enemies is sad about you killing his (vicious, horrible) dogs.

Here's the wiki on the OF enhancement stats, btw.
    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Overwhelming_Force

PS.: Do you have any experience with Scrapper's Strike? Getting all six is my current project at WW's. Given my net worth isn't much above 20M, I expect this to take a while. Especially since I'm trying to start with the most expensive one. :P
  24. Still loving reading this, and I was happy to get to meet you last night during the Great Aura Frenzy on Virtue.

Have you been playing the summer event? The OF enhancements are live in Wentworth's now, so even if you can't use them you can make some millions...

    Looking forward to more.

What pool powers are you thinking of taking?
    Thanks to you both.

Embarrassingly, I'd forgotten about the Power Pool bar/button and had been waiting, thinking I had to earn another pool.

I was actually thinking of Jumping specifically for Combat Jumping, which I like from my Praetorian character. I've got a Jetpack that's listed as an Inherent Power...somehow. It showed up in my mailbox after I logged on last month. I hadn't logged in since 2009. If it doesn't disappear, Super Jump would probably be a waste. If it does disappear, Super Jump will be something to pick up.

Or I could just get Fly. Again, depends on whether or not I get to keep the jetpack.

Teleportation seems useful. Mission Teleporter takes forever to charge. Then again I don't team that often. Speed would get me an area effect power...

None of them offer ranged attacks, do they? I'm really missing them as a Scrapper.
