Extremely soon after they were changed to make noise at all, I replaced the blinkie/glowie sound with another sound I found by poking around in the PIGG files. I always struggled to hear the default sound, especially in combat, and in a game where glowies all too often ended up in horribly-hard-to stumble-across places, I damn well wanted to be able to hear them.

You can hear the sound here. (Converted to mp3 format for ease of opening.) Be warned. It's a terribly obnoxious sound.

A related confession: I never disliked looping sounds in CoH, and was quite irritated when they were made to fade without the option to keep them. Quills, Targeting Drone, Super Speed, none bothered me. In fact, it took me a long time to adjust to the fact that no longer hearing them did not mean they were not running in situations where it was hard to see, like a big team fight with lots of buffs and attacks flying around.

Confession, I made a character named Super Nanook on Virtue (Due to full character slots on Justice back in the day) Huge body style narrow shoulders big waist in an attempt to make a "fat" superman, then dressed him in Superman's exact colors with a big N on his chest. That costume was reported 5 times on Virtue and generic'd just to be remade and played again. 6th time it was gen'd I moved it to Justice remade the costume and the Generic's stopped. Love Justice server.

Either overlong list of "50's" or obligatory quote, your choice.

I think we can all agree that Justice is the best server.

Now it's off to do dishes and eat dinner whilst watching S1E4 of Dr Who. The first episode blew, the second was good, the third...meh....we'll see how this one is.

At least I like the actor playing him. :-)

Of course. We're the Sexy Server.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.

I'm pretty sure that Justice is, at best, the Pod Six of servers.

Don't get too attached.

Ok, another confession:

On the oft-mailgned wedding screenshot I put together for the Manticore-Psyche event, the devs requested one edit from me:

In the PvP section (pg22), there's a shot of a character from the event (name escapes me) emoting over defeated Positron (this actually happened in the event). I manufactured a later shot of Positron standing over that same character, returning the favor as the player protested "HAX!"

I originally had Positron doing the /teabag emote.

This was, I was told, popular with the devs but nevertheless changed before the final cut just in case some objected.

(also, this was before I was really effective at Demoediting. Everything in that comic besides that shot was a screenshot actually captured during the event.)

I made a toon called Jakarta and led a team of players in one-starring all the arcs of vocal AE forum posters for a week just because I was sick of all the anti-farmer self-righteous trash talk. With 15 of us having double accounts it was pretty easy to punish them in the one way I could....attack their egos and beloved rankings.

The ensuing forum drama was predictable: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=270079

I felt bad later and tried to lead a team to up-star the same arcs only to find several had been rage-deleted. Oops.

As RIGbot Tango on Infinity, I used Group Fly to lead countless numbers of villains through a map hole in Cap au Diable. I'd Group Fly them under the map to where the bugged Sweet Tooth badge was inside the Gold Brick warehouse building where no one without hover or fly could get to it otherwise. This was also the only way could get the supergroup beacon for Cap au Diable. I literally flew hundreds of characters under that map.

We used to do badge tours in the Cap and people would bring a dozen characters throughout the course of the night. Once, a dev logged in using Ghost Widow's model and I took them under there. I'd roleplay the whole thing, too, with Tango telling the villains he was escorting to keep up or he'd drop their a** into oblivion. At the end, once they had the badge, I'd turn off Group Fly but keep on Hover and drop them. After falling way down, they'd respawn somewhere else on the map in a normal spot. One guy really took it personally and started trash talking me in broadcast, which I found infinitely hilarious. I had just helped him get an unreachable badge, and he was mad because I roleplayed dropping him.

Fun times.

I also wrote a detailed article about it on the Paragon Wiki, which had really started taking off by that time. If you got the Sweet Tooth badge before around November 19, 2005, there's a decent chance that you got it either directly from me or from someone who read my article. There was a discussion of it at VidiotMaps, but I think they blew it away for some reason.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

Yeah, he was Claude Rains, the invisible man.

Too bad he disappeared quickly and was never heard from again.

He'll be back as the main villain of Thor 2.

I meant the character he played, not him.

He'll be a good villain, though.

He's been a villain before. He was the evil Major in 28 Days Later and Destro in GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Note: I have not actually seen the latter, because I never heard anyone have anything good to say about it.

I've changed 2 SG bases in their entirety to nothing but toilet doors after they repeatedly spam invited me.

I'm the one who's responsible for the Gold-spammer response of 'But can you **** a walrus?' - I've been told this is now doing the rounds in Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, WoW and a few other MMOs. It started here folks. It started with me. Sorry.

I'm the one responsible for bubbling Lusca's head with a Power Boosted Detention Field a few times in the past.

I actually enjoyed PvP in the past.

When The Ocho came as a Community Rep my first response to him was 'Tits or GTFO'. He then spammed my PM inbox with pictures of the aptly named bird. Lots of them. Even website links. I loled.

I think I'm the only one who has every ICly done the following in CoH - answered a question on a Virtue Sushi Squad event about nailing the lovely lady - with a hammer and nails and some wood in the shape of a cross. There was an awkward silence afterwards.

Also, the only one who has referred to Ghost Widow and the Widows in general as psycho feminist *******. And got away with it.

I once ASed an AFK GM in Warburg. He teleported me to Atlas Park, let me die to drones and TPed me back. It was funny.

I used to love with arena matches bugged out and loaded you into some poor level 1's mission. I will confess I had no shame in murdering them.

I am the grandfather of Spine/SRs in PvP. Before me there were none. Then they became FOTM. My bad.

Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

Invisible men tend to do that.

Ooh. That reminds me. Someone was serially abusing that on Justice. One of the people had a mission in which villains were already present, and the hero mission owner was broadcasting for teammates to help with the mission proper, intentionally duping the helpers into a trap.

Now, these folks weren't being very discrete about it this, so word was getting around that it was happening, yet they kept at it. Eventually, the leader of my SG got an invite for help that sounded suspiciously like the folks in question. Since we figured we knew what was up, we went in prepared. Even though we were PvE-centric players, we dabbled enough to know what to bring to deal with a small squad of Stalkers in a cave mission instance. As a result, the ambush did not flow the way they expected. We slaughtered them, several times, and it was awesome. Sadly, the dudes involved didn't seem to find the humor in it and actually got pissed. If they'd been better sports about getting whupped, odds are good, odds are good we'd have just left and let them carry on. Instead we reported them. I'm sure others had already reported them, but in any case, the whole episode apparently earned themselves a temp ban, as they were gone for a while after that.

I play the game hidden. I am almost always visible in global channels and to global friends, extremely rarely hiding from them, but I have been hidden from search since the option became available.

I even often hid from my own SGs, though when the option to specify what you wanted to hide from came about, my friends (who were often also in my SGs) could still see I was on that way.

By the way, you can tell when someone in your SG is playing while hidden by sorting the list by "Last on". If they stay near the top of the list, they're on-line.

I guess I've more than dabbled in SG hostile takeovers.

There's the SG on Protector I mentioned in an earlier post.

My main SG, Crimson Hero Society (lord I hate that name!), I originally started with a fellow lvl 10 (this is when my main character was in his infancy), who insisted on having "Society" in the name. I didn't want to try building an SG on my own, so I decided to let him have that, and we formed the SG. Over the next few weeks, I realized I couldn't stand him. Then he disappeared for a few weeks, and by the time he got auto-demoted out of co-leader status, I'd already decided to give him the boot. Since we'd (I) already gotten a good amount of Prestige into the SG, I decided to hang onto it and hope someday I'd be able to change the name.

My main VG, Chaos Faction (I actually liked that name!), I co-bought for somewhere around 30 mil inf from someone who'd already done most of the hard work. My co-owner had a friend who he let rebuild most of the base, and I went out and got most of the missing beacons. He had some personal issues, one that included not liking the game enough to stick around for much longer. Eventually, he was auto-demoted out of co-leader, and when I decided that I was going to take a temporary CoH hiatus, I removed him and any of his friends that he had invited, so as not to lose the VG.

Also, I don't know if anyone on Justice remembers the Green Flame Avenger and his SG the Avenging Flame (I think it was called), but I hated that kid. He was so annoying, and he started his SG the same time I started mine, except he would sit in Atlas and spam invites to everyone he could. I couldn't stand that, and the fact that he grew an extremely active SG made me hate him more.

Other than the fact that everything he said lacked a foundation in logic, the only thing about him that made me happy was when I would see him going after badges that I already had, while I stayed a good 50-100 badges higher than him. I even helped him on one defeat badge....until I got it, then I left him to figure it out on his own :-)
