As of now, many prized authors showed support to City of Heroes.

There was more than I can remember right now... but 3 names come to my mind:

Neil Gaiman

Laurel K. Hamilton

Mercedes Lackey

Not only they are famous and wonderful authors, but also showed their support on twitter.

And Mercedes Lackey went even far... she sent a letter to NCSoft CEO offering herself to promote the game without asking payment for it.

You 3 are... AWESOME!

Sounds interesting I will have to look into that. If some how COH gets saved I will be beyond happy.

yep, he is my favorite living author, no question. and totally not unexpected, he has shown himself to be a class act before in regard to fan requests. I love his writing foremost, but knowing a great guy is behind the writing is always good. one thing, what exaclty is neil doing? didnt see anything on his twitter, just wanted to see what all he is doing.

All three of them are awesome, but Miss Lackey's offer is mind slappingly fantastic!! NCSoft would be biblically stupid to ignore that!

Ok. I just clicked a brain cell or something... Has anyone thought of contacting George R.R. Martin? He's ultra popular right now and obviously loves oddball heroes (Wildcards novels, duh...) Oddball heroes-R-us! He has a twitter account (I found one, but it has 0 followers, weird) but I don't have twitter. Can't find an email either. Maybe his publisher or perhaps Ms. Lackey herself....

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

Shot a tweet off to Jim Butcher as well. Let's see what magic Harry Dresden can work up.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

This!

I had the opportunity to team with her during Issue 18 beta. One of the best moments I had in the last 7 years.

Mercedes Lackey didn't just offer to promote City of Heroes, she offered to promote all NC Soft games, as a spokesman for the entire company (since primarily known as a fantasy author, and most of their games are fantasy-based). For free. For five to ten years.

And all they have to do is un-cancel the game, or set it free - just let it keep running in some way, shape, or form.

I read the Heralds of Valdemar trilogy and the Mage Storm trilogy, and really enjoyed them both. I'm still sorry I had to sell those when I moved overseas.

I still greet people in game (and elsewhere on the Internorf) with "Heyla"

There'd have to be some extreme reasoning for them to not accept that level of PR in exchange for reviving a game that was still profitable. We'll see where this goes.

Indeed!

As is John C. Wright, CoH player and author of the exceptional Orphans of Chaos trilogy

But you know who isn't awesome?

Of course when you have genuine celebrities amplifying your signal who needs the (very) poor man's Penny Arcade.

Ms. Lackey is a very regular player of the game to this day (as in "several times a week, schedule permitting"). Just like so many of us, she's fighting for something she loves.

She is also putting up the one thing that is most precious to an artist; their name and reputation. This is not done lightly, I'm sure.

Hamilton plays CoH?

Man I am so surpri....wait no, this makes absolute perfect sense.

I read the article and I am embarresed to say it made me tear up knowing that they are willing to do so much to save coh. To see how much COH really means to me read tje comment under Elfin1701. I can't type it again on my phone plus tears at work are embarrassing.

Well, I mean... Gaiman and Hamilton just retweeted something for us. Which is fantastic for the amount of awareness involved, but it isn't quite on the same level as the amount of work Ms. Lackey (and by extension, her husband ) has put in to this.

I was actually stunned by this. If this is true, it's a gesture of incalculable value, both symbolically and monetarily.

Yes, it's true. But as she herself pointed out, it kind of banks on "writer" being a class of celebrity endorsement in Korea that it isn't so much over here.

(Have you ever seen Gaiman on a cereal box? Orson Scott Card's name was all over a video game series, and it had awful sales and got canned very quickly.)

Now I kinda want to make an Empathy/Archery (or perhaps Empathy/Psychic Blast) Defender loosely based on Talia from the Heralds of Valdemar series in honor of this development, but I don't know if Ms. Lackey would be flattered or insulted by that.
