It's probably true to an extent here. I know that if such a contribution from myself and others would save our game, I'd drop $300 today. I would have loved to see a lifetime sub to this game. They would still have gotten my money because I bought a lot more in the store than a monthly stipend covered. I hardly ever had a sub going but I had everything in every reward tier and still continued to buy points in the store, so I largely didn't need a sub. That's where they made their money from me, and it definitely averaged out to more than $15 a month.

Quote:I was actually stunned by this. If this is true, it's a gesture of incalculable value, both symbolically and monetarily.Mercedes Lackey didn't just offer to promote City of Heroes, she offered to promote all NC Soft games, as a spokesman for the entire company (since primarily known as a fantasy author, and most of their games are fantasy-based). For free. For five to ten years.
And all they have to do is un-cancel the game, or set it free - just let it keep running in some way, shape, or form.
I read the Heralds of Valdemar trilogy and the Mage Storm trilogy, and really enjoyed them both. I'm still sorry I had to sell those when I moved overseas.
I still greet people in game (and elsewhere on the Internorf) with "Heyla" -
If Paragon managed to spin off and become an independent studio, I would buy everything on the Paragon Market. EVERYTHING. Even stuff I will never use.

I'm prepared for the worst as well, but I'm sure most of the community can't bear to just sit and watch City of Heroes die. We're all grasping at a lot of different pipe dreams, but if nothing else it will help us cope. We can feel like we gave it our best shot. It may die anyway, but we will not sit idle and watch it fade away.

You know it. The more the word spreads, the more people will learn how much we care for and want to support this game and its community. And the more people who know that, the more investors and/or publishers will know it too.

Quote:If the character base is lost and I have to start all over, I'm perfectly fine with that. I've been cataloging my characters ever since the news broke. I can understand why some would not want to do that, however, but to me that is a price I would be more than willing to pay. If anything, such an event might strengthen the community in a way - we'd all start together at the bottom, so we'd meet new people we might not have otherwise encountered, and have the chance to grow with a whole new set of friends while still keeping the old.Just like any of the somewhat pie in the sky "save the game" options out there now, I have very little optimism that any purchase of the game will include the character base intact.
Starting over wouldn't be something I'd want to do.
I've left a game I loved and pretended it no longer existed even though it was still running until last year. I can do it again. -
Once upon a time, there was a fantastically original and unique game called Star Wars Galaxies, with a skill-based (not class-based) system, pitch black nights, and all kinds of other neat things. Then one day, World of Warcraft came out and SOE decided their game was not enough like it. Then SOE ruined it, the majority of the player base left, and it withered away and died. The end.
-
Oh I know. What I mean is if SOE's offer was the only one NCSoft took seriously, I'd rather NCSoft had one offer they'd consider instead of zero. SOE is evil but I'll take SOE's City of Heroes over the fond memories of City of Heroes any day.
-
If it ended up that nobody but SOE made a serious offer, I'd rather they got it than nobody. But I too still remember SWG... I try REALLY hard to remember the good times from that.

Well, tried it using Contact Valve and that worked. Maybe we broke Gabe's email... Or not. Tried Gabe again and it went through. *shrug* Well, now I made my point twice.

I figured as much. I haven't seen such a screen in Chrome or IE though. :/

If Valve wants to make hat money from me, this would be the way to do it. I had HORRIBLE impulse control when it came to the Paragon Market. Incidentally, since I've never emailed Valve before, is there any way to know your email was sent? Or does it stay the same when you hit Send Email?

If you make it this far in your inbox, you certainly know that City of Heroes is facing its sudden end and that many hope you and Valve will consider coming to our rescue. I won't rehash the same thing that hundreds, if not thousands, of others have already said to you about its uniqueness, or its vast wealth of content, or the passion it brings out of many members of its now-threatened community.
I have been with City of Heroes almost since the beginning. No matter what other games are on my to-play list, I always have time and money for City of Heroes. I have spent hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars on my own account, and hundreds more on my wife's. I am just one of many thousands of players like this who open their wallets every time something new is added to the game. I, like all those others, love everything City of Heroes has offered, and I would have loved everything it offered in the future... and I, like all those others, show my love with American dollars.
My name is Chris, and I am a steady stream of revenue.
Thank you for your time.
