Well the date must have been September 30, 2011.
I found a thread with the image, but apparently I started a new one for that joke and didn't simply reply in the threads about the in-game insanity.
The thread's replies gave me a laugh just now though...

I remember one bug where Rikti Drones would continuously explode after being defeated. One person in game commented that it was like we were in a Michael Bay movie.

My favorite were graphic glitches. From discovering the great outdoors indoors (or is that indoors outdoors?) ...

... to mid-air torch fire which allowed me to capture my second-favorite-of-all-time character screenshot.

One of my favorite bugs, hands down, was the Rikti Drone 'Baysplosion'. This bug team-wiped me more than once, because we'd all start laughing too hard to care about anything else, with all the Baysplosion jokes we'd start making.

And a huge thanks to the vid maker KitsuneKnight for posting it to youtube. This still gets me cracked up every time.

Not a bug, but an excellent farming opportunity that almost nobody ever noticed, do you guys remember that mission before the preatorean revamp with nightstar and her robots, well I farmed that with my Radiation/Dark defender from the day we had the ability to set our own difficulty to the day I remade my main as a Katana/Dark Brute which was the first day that Brutes got Katana. Honestly I would imagine a brute could have done it just as well too if it were /elec

I pulled it off because those enemies have no mez at range and a radiation defender toggles effectively soft cap you with very little slotting.

Let's see.. favorite bugs...

1.) being able to teleport under the map in Posi Pt. 1, and fighting the non-aggroed AV's used in the cutscenes for MAD XP.

2.) Using the "Welcome to the Ouroboros" flashback to easily get from level 25-50 in mere hours do to an error that awarded Mission Complete XP... 8 times to one alt (Bug Hunter for that)

3.) Getting under the map in The Abyss and being able to attack, and kill, Hami without him aggroing on you.

4.) Getting under the same Abyss map during the LGTF to help my team get one of the first MoLGTF badges on Virtue.

5.) Grabbing Dev access on beta by quickly switching servers in rapid succession (during the server transfer beta testing.)

6.) Being able to Coalition a hero and villain groups and then running CoPvP (Cathedral of Pain vs Player) where teamed heroes and villains in the CoP could attack and kill each other.

7.) Hero/Villain base storage, here is what I sent in to ExLibris:

Quote:
I tried to /bug this but was too long and didn't fit in the petition window. This is long but gives explicit instructions on how to duplicate a few major exploits.

This is an influence/infamy as well as zone exploit bug. This is also a 3 exploit in 1 kind of thing.

#1 - The bug that was fixed that dis-allowed heroes into villain bases, and vice versa, is still around except it affects 2 or more instances of the Rikti War Zone.

Now, a hero and villain, both in Rikti War Zone can not enter their teammates base. But if either a hero or villain is in instance #2 (or more) of the War Zone and their teammate is in instance #1, they can enter their base. Instead of getting booted out of the base like you would if only one instance of the RWZ is open, you will stay inside but get a message saying to pick your zone to exit to. If you do not choose it, you will stay in the other person base. Now, if that isn't bad enough, here comes exploit #2.

#2 - A hero inside a villains base (or vice versa) CAN drop inspirations, enhancements, or base salvage INTO their appropriate storage containers. This means a hero can drop HeroSide ONLY items into the VillainSide storage where then the villain can sell the item on the Black Market for millions of infamy since the item would be Extremely Rare villainside.

I was able to do this (minus selling the item) by dropping a Crystal Titan Enhancement from my hero into a villain storage bin. Since that enhancement is only available through a Hero Strike Force, this item (which villains are already bidding on) will sell for almost anything that it is listed at.

This series of exploits can ultimately cause an unlimited amount of infamy/influence for the seller of the items.

But, then there is a 3rd exploit that revolves around the base entering one.

#3 - If a hero enters a villain base and 2 or more instances of the War Zone are open, the hero stays inside. BUT... if the hero tries to zone into a villain area, through a Zone Transporter, he will get booted into Atlas Park, EXCEPT... if there are 2 or more instances of Atlas Park open like when an invasion happens. The game does not know which Atlas Park to zone the hero into, so the hero stays in the villain zone until he chooses which instance or one of the instances of Atlas Park closes.

Another problem that ties into this is if a hero is in Pocket D, he can invite a villain in one of the War Zones to a team. This can also allow a hero into a villains base, and vice versa.

All three of these exploits worked for me and I know that others will find out how to do this. I have not leaked this info to anyone, fearing that it would cause a mass problem.

Hope that you can use this info and hope that it can be fixed ASAP.

Thanks,
Sean
And here is the reply I got back from Lighthouse the next day:

Quote:
Hi,

I wanted to write and let you know that we've had approval to award one of your characters the Bug Hunter Badge for your contributions in alerting us to issues and problems within the game.

If you could, please write me back with which character on what server you would like to receive the badge.

Thanks and congratulations!

8.) Base Empowerment station allowing you to continuously buff when TF/SF settings disabled buffs.

9.) Using Flashback settings to exemp down before claiming Hami-O's and getting a level 1 Hami-O's, (as well as level 53 Hami-O's) and same with Crystal Titan Enhancements.

10.) Being able to use Mission Teleporter to team with someone in the tutorial and teleporting a 50 into it to rerun the content (which allowed you to repick patron's and acquire more than one patron badge.) Even though I did it, I reported it with screenies and had my toon restored to an earlier save. Though I know of at least one person that did the same and kept all of their badges instead of reporting it...

11.) A list of Flashback missions that combined with Double XP offered large reward and no risk:

Quote:
Here is a list of missions that can be exploited due to an unintended bug in the Ouroboros Flasback system. By using these missions, a level 50 can invite a low level to the team and start Flashbacks (as long as the Flashback missions are in the same level range as the lowbie) that will award major XP bonuses to the low level player. Example: a level 50 can invite a level 30 to a Flashback and start a level 34 mission, thereby giving a major completion XP bonus to the level 30.

The Difficulties were set on Relentless and Invincible for all missions for maximum Mission Complete XP.

Below is a list of the little-to-no risk missions that start certain archs that can gain major XP on completion, in the shortest amount of time possible, and get a character from level 1-50 in just hours/days.

NOTE: All Kheldian Storyarchs are available to all levels via Ouroboros Flashback (meaning a level 50 Kheldian can invite a level 1 into a level 50 storyarch and the level 1 can enter the mission. This seems to be a bug with only the Kheldian Archtypes). I will list each Arch/Mission anyway as they still can be used as an extremely easy/no risk powerlevel.

I have started with Hero storyarchs/missions, then go into Villain storyarchs/mission, then end with a mission that is accessable to both Heroes and Villains that is exclusive inside of the Ouroboros zone.

MISSIONS:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hero
level 1-15 Peacebringer Flashback: War and Peacebringers, First Mission: Level 50 and lowbie go to Galaxy City and enter their base portal. Level 50 accepts this mission. After the mission is set, the lowbie can exit through the base portal and click on Shadowstar to complete the mission. Both can quit the Flashback and restart it. This can be done over and over till level 15. Mission Complete only gives one Mission Complete XP reward. With zero difficulty involved, you can complete the first mission and restart 2-3 times a minute.

NOTE: The Peacebringer can invite ANY Archtype into the team for the Mission Complete XP.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hero
level 20-24 Flashback: A Faultline in the Sands of Time, First Mission: Use invisibility and pop 4 Luck inspirations. Three desks to click on. Lucks keep enemies from interrupting the desk clicks. Mission takes less than a minute to complete. Awards two End Mission XP bonuses immediately after completion for the lowbie in that level range. If the high level toon that is PL'ing quits the Task Force before the lowbie leaves the mission, a third End Mission XP bonus is awarded to the lowbie. In essence, the lowbie will be awarded 3 Mission Complete bonuses in less than a minute. Repeat as many times as necessary to get the lowbie from level 20 to level 25.

NOTE: After completion of this mission, the character PL'ing the lowbie can accept the next mission that grants a Full Stealth Arachnos temp power. This power lasts for an hour and while activated, no enemies can detect you... at all. This power can be used to grant total stealth in all of the Flashback Missions. You can then quit the task force and retain the Full Stealth Arachnos costume. This can be done over and over for a permanent hour long full invisibility/no aggro temp power.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hero
level 20-25 Kheldian Flashback: Shadow Science, First Mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission via Train (I started this Arch from the Talos Base Portal since the portal is so close to the Train station). Lowbie stands at door inside the mission while Level 50 finds Joshua. (I set up a keybind to spot Joshua from a distance.) Kill the two guards that have captured Joshua and the mission will automatically award TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses to the lowbie. After the Mission Complete comes on screen, the Level 50 must quit the Task Force. Keep the lowbie inside the mission. As soon as the level 50 is kicked from the mission, a THIRD XP bonus is awarded to the lowbie. The lowbie then quits the team and the Level 50 starts it again. This can be done from level 1-25 for the lowbie, where he will earn 3 XP bonuses per mission till level 25.

NOTE #1: The Kheldian can invite ANY Archtype into the team for the Mission Complete XP.
NOTE #2: The lowbie can be invited at level 1 since there is the bug with the Kheldian Storyarchs that will allow any level into their Flashback Missions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hero
level 25-29 Flashback: War of the Fir Bolg, first mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter the mission. Lowbie waits at door. Level 50 stealths to end and clicks on the glowie to complete the mission. Lowbie will be awarded TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses. Keep lowbie inside mission while Level 50 quits the Task Force. After the Level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will be awarded a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. Lowbie then quits the Task Force and can be reinvited by the Level 50 to start all over again. You can powerlevel a level 25 character to level 30 in a couple of hours with this mission.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hero
level 30-34 Flashback: Defend The War Walls, only mission: Level 50 and lowbie start the mission. Lowbie waits at door. Level 50 completes the mission by doing each task assigned. Upon completion, lowbie gets TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses. Keep the lowbie in the mission and have the Level 50 quit the Task Force. Once the Level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will receive a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. Lowbie then quits the Task Force and can be reinvited by the Level 50 to start all over again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hero
level 35-39 Flashback: Revenant Hero Project, first mission: Level 50 and lowbie start the mission. Lowbie waits at door. Level 50 completes the mission by stealthing to the end and clicking on the glowie (which is somewhere on the last floor of the map.) Upon completion, lowbie gets TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hero
level 40-45 Flashback: The Eternal Nemesis, first mission: Level 50 and lowbie start the mission. Lowbie waits at door. Level 50 completes the mission by stealthing to the end and clicking on the glowie. This mission awards one Mission Complete XP bonus inside the mission map. To get a second Mission Complete XP bonus, have the lowbie click the Exit mission button. Have the Level 50 stay inside the mission map till the lowbie exits the mission completely and is outside. Once the lowbie is outside, the Level 50 can click the Exit mission button. Once the Level 50 is outside, the lowbie will be awarded a second Mission Complete XP bonus. Both then quit and start over to PL to level 45.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hero
level 45-50 Flashback: Lost and Found, First Mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to find Percy Winkley. Level 50 kills the two guards guarding Percy. Lowbie gets the Mission Complete bonus. Keep lowbie in the mission and have the level 50 quit the Task Force. Once the level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will receive a second Mission Complete XP bonus. Lowbie quits and Level 50 restarts the mission. Lowbie can be power leveled to level 50 this way.

NOTE: Any lowbie, level 14 or higher, can take part in this mission since the actual storyarch becomes available to level 14's and higher. In essence, a player can use this one mission to PL from level 14 to level 50.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Villain
level 1-15 Flashback: The Origins of the Snakes; first mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to to kill Sithius and his two guards. Upon completion, the lowbie will be awarded TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses. Keep the lowbie inside the mission and have the level 50 quit the Strike Force. As soon as the level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will receive a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. Have the lowbie quit the team and have the level 50 re-invite him. This first mission of this storyarch can be repeated till the lowbie reaches level 9.

NOTE: This mission, though a level 9 mission, allows players level 1 and higher to team with a level 50. All of the other level 9 missions do not allow any players lower than level 4 to take part in the Flashback.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Villain
level 1-15 Flashback: Snake Uprising, first mission: An ultimately simple way of getting XP and leveling to level 8 (if you are level 3 or higher). Level 50 and lowbie enter Supergroup base from Mercy Island Base Portal. Level 50 selects this mission. Both level 50 and lowbie exit back into Mercy Island through portal. Lowbie stays at portal door. Level 50 attacks and kills 5 snakes close to the portal. Mission Complete only awards ONE XP bonus to the lowbie, but the mission lasts less than a minute and give up to 3 bubbles full of XP. Repeat mission to level 8 in no time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Villain
level 1-15 Flashback: Steal the Outbreak Virus, second mission: Although not a true exploit, the second mission of this storyarch can give a LOT of XP (difficulty set on Relentless), as long as the mission is NOT completed and the lowbie is level 10 or higher.

Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 searches the map for the Hero/Archvillain Class Boss, Snow Maiden. Level 50 pops 4-8 Luck Inspirations and attacks and kills the Hero, Snow Maiden. The level 10 should receive 3-6 bubbles of XP per kill. Without Completing the Mission Objective, both the lowbie and the level 50 log out of the game. Both log back in and enter the mission. The level 50 then searches for Snow Maiden again, kills her, and both log out. Repeat till level 10 gets to level 15. This can be done in about an hour (or a little longer), depending on the level of the lowbie.

NOTE: This is a very short arch on its own. By running through the first mission, completing the objectives in both and ignoring Snow Maiden, a level 50 and a lowbie can repeat the entire arch over and over to get the lowbie to level 15 in no time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Villain
level 16-19 Flashback: Breakout at the Zig, first mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to find glowing computer terminal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Villain
level 20-24 Flashback: Disturbing the Dead, first mission: Although this mission isn't a true XP exploit, this mission is ultra quick and repeatable. It only offers ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus, though if quick enough, it's possible to complete this mission twice in one minute if the lowbie has Recall Friend to teleport the level 50 back to the Base Portal door.

Level 50 and lowbie accept mission from Sharkshead Base Portal (fastest way.) Level 50 and lowbie exit through Base Portal into Sharkshead. Lowbie stays outside at Portal door. Level 50 visits and clicks on Archmage Tarixus to complete the mission. Lowbie is awarded ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus, though it is very repeatable till you get to level 24.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Villain
level 20-24 Flashback: Disturbing the Dead, second mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to find glowing box. Click on it to Complete the Mission.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Villain
level 25-29 Flashback: Retrieve Crash's Shipment, first mission: Although this mission isn't a true XP exploit, this mission is ultra quick and repeatable. It only offers ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus, though if quick enough, it's possible to complete this mission 2-3 times in one minute, especially if the level 50 stays inside the base and the lowbie completes the mission by talking to Crash Cage.

NOTE: This mission's level capacity is level 25. A level 50 will be able to invite a level 20 to level 25 into the Flashback arch for the lowbie to earn XP bonuses.

Level 50 and lowbie accept mission from Sharkshead Base Portal (fastest way.) Level 50 and lowbie exit through Base Portal into Sharkshead. Lowbie stays outside at Portal door. Level 50 visits and clicks on Crash Cageto complete the mission. Lowbie is awarded ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus, though it is very repeatable till you get to level 29.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Villain
level 25-29 Flashback: Retrieve Crash's Shipment, second mission: Retrieve the Shipment

NOTE: This mission's level capacity is level 25. A level 50 will be able to invite a level 20 to level 25 into the Flashback arch for the lowbie to earn XP bonuses.

Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 pops 4-8 Luck Inspirations and stealths the map to find the glowing boxes. The Luck's should keep you from being interrupted by the attacking mobs near the boxes. Click on all 4 boxes to complete the Mission. Upon completion, lowbie will recieve ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus while inside the mission. Have the lowbie click the Exit Mission button while keeping the level 50 inside the mission. Once the lowbie has loaded into Sharkshead, outside the mission, have the level 50 exit (not quit) the mission. Once the level 50 gets outside the mission, the lowbie will be awarded a SECOND Mission Complete XP Bonus. Leave the lowbie outside the mission door (that he just exited) and have the level 50 return to click on Crash Cage, ending the storyarch. This awards another Mission Complete XP Bonus to the lowbie.

Have the Level 50 reinvite the lowbie to do the entire Storyarch over again and it's a quick way to get a level 20 to level 25.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Villain
level 25-29 Flashback: Heavy Metal Doctoring; first mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 pops 4-8 Luck Inspirations and stealths the map to find the glowing medical supplies. The Luck's should keep you from being interrupted by the attacking mobs near the boxes. Click on all 4 boxes to complete the Mission. Upon completion, lowbie will recieve TWO Mission Complete XP Bonuses. Keep the lowbie inside the mission and have the level 50 quit the Strike Force. Once the level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will be receive a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. ***HEROSIDE & VILLAINSIDE OUROBOROS ZONE MISSIONS***

Hero/Villain:
level 45-50 Flashback: Ouroboros Initiation, First mission:

NOTE: This mission is ONLY accessable to level 50's through the Ouroboros Flashback. However, since this mission is normally available to level 25's, anyone level 25 and higher can join a Level 50 in this Flashback and can earn Mission Complete XP Bonuses up till they reach level 50.

Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to find glowing box. Click on it to Complete the Mission. Upon completion, lowbie gets TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses. Keep the lowbie in the mission and have the Level 50 quit the Task Force. Once the Level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will receive a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. Repeat as many times as needed to reach lvl 50.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I've seen, all Ouroboros Flashback Storyarchs /have/ an opportunity to be exploited. What I have listed is the easiest/no risk missions that can be repeated over and over to gain extremely easy XP which can powerlevel a level 1 to level 50 in days. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hope this helps out.
12.) Using Mission Teleporter to get a level 3 inside Cimerora for badges.

13.) Team Bridging for XP

14.) Getting the Lost Savior badge on a villain before villains had the ability to switch sides. (Teaming with a hero that had the mission, and set the mission as active before the villain joined in Pocket D/RWZ, then auto-completing the mission and awarding the badge to everyone on the team regardless of alignment.)

15.) TPing through holes in Bloody Bay, Siren's Call and Recluse's Victory to kill players hiding inside of the safe zones.

16.) In Mission Architect closed beta, by switching saved mission text file data and replacing it with NPC names from demo-files, you could add any NPC to a MA. Which means replacing the Honoree with Hero1, adding real, full versions of Hamidon with Mito's instead of the weaker MA ones, etc.

17.) Also in MA beta, you could replace the names of the Maps in the text files and add zones that never were supposed to be seen by eyes of anyone outside of the Dev team. I believe one such map was called "Vinceland" and it was a space zone that had all kinds of mini-games including a rough version of the ski slopes. There was a moving blocks game, an elevator type game, and some kind of portal type game.

18.) One more in MA beta, you could change the levels of AV's and GM's in the text files. Nothing like spawning a level 1 Hamidon

19.) When in GoRo beta, if a Controller or MM had pets out when they switched sides, you would switch and pets would attack you. Loved that one. Shame it was fixed :P

I've still got a ton more. Just getting tired looking through my sent PM's folder. Will post more when I can think of them :P

pohsyb: so of all people you must be most excited about the veats
Arachnos Commander: actually, I am
pohsyb: I mean you kinda were one already anyways ^_^

The bug I remember most vividly was one that cropped up during HeroCon 2008. 20 computers are set up and people were beta-testing Shields. I'm chatting with Matt Miller and someone else when a group of players start HOWLING with laughter. We all look over, and see that a player has, on his arm, not a shield, but the solid green male default body model.

Of course the developers immediately tell him to submit a bug report, but I dash over and say, "Quick, lemme demorecord that!"

Then there was the AE graphics glitch where upon zoning out of a mission, one might sometimes turn around to see the mission contact down on all fours. Which led to:

(I swear by everything I hold sacred, that was not demoedited. If it were, he'd have been looking up Tava's skirt, not Jo's.)

Demorecording lent itself wonderfully to graphic glitches, such as disappearing map geometry (which works BEAUTIFULLY in my original Incarnate video), turning the four-legged models into mobile origami or kanji, FX that were displaced from their source so it looked like a torch had a ball of flame following behind it by a foot and a half, ghosting (where an object would be destroyed but then reappear), and other fun mishaps.

My favourite bug was when they were testing the server transfer mechanic, by opening up a second test server.

There was this tiny issue, that when you transferred your character, you got flagged as a developer. That was quite fun (it was also our first taste of "side switching", since you could teleport yourself anywhere. I remember Lady Sadako freaking out about my Dominator walking up to her and saying "HI!" in Icon)

Tee-hee. I remember the Arachnos Widow Indomitable Will bug, too. I remember watching a Widow on Beta repeatedly owning a team of 8 in Recluse's Victory. (This was before the big PvP revamp of Diminishing Returns.)

Let's see, bugs (some of these are bugs or questions that I'll probably pose to Positron if he does a Q&A about the game):

  • These two may be linked but unsure:
    • A friend in the CoV Beta told me that a bug during one patch would sometimes send Villains to the other side AS Villains. Players would show up in The Hollows or Atlas Park when they were attempting to zone from Mercy Island to Port Oakes. However, since they were flagged as Villains, Police Drones would 1-shot them back to the Hospital. I don't remember if Villains "caught" in Atlas Park were sent to the Atlas Park Hospital or back to the last known Villain zone that had a hospital. My friend zoned into The Hollows and when he was "zapped," he went back to the zone that was last known to have a Hospital. For you new players, The Hollows relatively recently got its trainer and Hospital.
    • I didn't experience this myself, but long before Going Rogue and switching sides, there was a bug where a player creating a Villain would pop up in Atlas Park. The character would be a Hero Mastermind (or Corr or Brute or Stalker). It could team and run missions as any normal Heroic archetype. This may have been the genesis for Going Rogue.
  • Sometimes followers lose track or sight of the player with a PBAoE Stealth toggled on but with the Stealth Suppression (?) applied. "Hey, PlayerName! Where'd you go? Oh, heavens!"
  • Sometimes followers lose track or sight of the player with NO stealth. I go around a corner and lost 'em. Wait. I can't believe that it can't follow that Spandex-wearing weirdo out of the sewers. Was I escorting them to the optometrist?
  • Sometimes Newspaper/Radio missions' boss names would change from their original name to BOSS_NAME of the VillainGroup. This happened sometimes after patches.
  • Sometimes Newspaper/Radio missions groups had major changes. Example: I logged into a level 8 or 9 Villain character after a long time and it still had a Newspaper mission from a long time ago. When I stepped into the mission, I had to defeat BOSS_NAME, but the enemies were no longer normal mobs from the Rogue Isles in the level range of me, but level 50+ Storm Elementals (Lanaruu the Mad's storm creatures).
  • Sometimes mission objectives would be inaccessible locations -- like in the walls. Need to click that last bomb in this timed mission? Okay, well, wait ... it's in the stairs here. As badge missions, timed missions and missions part of TF/SF/Trial/Flashback are excluded from the auto-complete feature, I just let the timer run out. Oh, well.
  • Anyone remember when the Rikti Invasion Zone Event stuff was being tested? Do you remember how the Armored Suits (Elite Bosses) kept spawning and spawning and spawning and spawning? I distinctly remember going to the hospital in Talos Island after being defeated and walking out to about 30 in the parking lot of the hospital. More kept beaming in. I remember Ghost Widow (Developer) was there, flagged herself untouchable and started to take out the ones the Police Drones couldn't get to. It seemed to spawn 2 Armored Suits for every player in the area.
  • While testing the Rikti Mothership Raid, I remember the zone player cap being normal (250-ish?) and the zone so extremely laggy that it felt like a Classic Hamidon Raid. Your client's timers for powers were showing they had recharged, but the server's timer would reply "Nope, gotta wait." I believe the zone's player cap (for RWZ) was lowered as a result of this.
  • While testing the PvP zones, players would connect to the server, create a new character and that new character was placed in the PvP zone in their side's base inside the gate/door/chopper they were testing. Right near the entry point were special contacts: one would give the experience necessary to train from level 1 to the minimum for that PvP zone and the inf to buy enhancements; a trainer; and a contact that sold enhancements. I remember that during the testing of Recluse's Victory (RV), players could actually leave the PvP zone through the portal gate and go back to Atlas Park or Rogue Isles, do a few missions and earn enough extra cash to buy some more enhancements to further pimp out these test toons. I mentally filed that as a "bug," as I think it was the Developers' intentions that everyone was locked to that zone -- player creation, training, enhancing. I think I may filed a /bug report, but it was moot since it wasn't going to operate that way on Live.
  • In the "Rescue Statesman" (Statesman's Pal) mission, Statesman is listed as a Level 54 Arch-Villain, not a Level 54 Hero. Why? I understand that from the point of view of the Praetorians, the Primes were an invading force and, therefore, considered "evil." (Matter of perspective, I suppose.) But, we were Primes saving a Prime. Why wasn't he a "Hero?" I think Positron (in the revamp "Positron's Pal") is a "Hero." (I'll have to double-check this and run the arc again very soon.)
  • In the Mender Silos Task Force (Hero Side), in the last mission, Citadel was listed differently than the others. I can't remember the specific details, but it was something like everyone else was a "Hero" in their target/info window, and Citadel was listed as an Elite Boss. Did anyone check his Emotions Emulator to see if this had an impact? Question: Why weren't Valkyrie or Luminary in that mission?
  • We all know that, at one time, players could get behind the zone border in Cimerora and explore the area that's used for the last mission -- an area I like to call Imperious' Castle. Anyhoo, I never understood why they didn't make it an accessible point. If you ever got behind there and looked around, there were mobs spawning in that area and patrolled it. There were even spawn points on the barracks towers (a/k/a "The Towers" for the ITF folks). Also, there were these crystal-like objects in the Courtyard (where the 5th Column and plaza with the Cimerorans spawn) that LOOKED like what later I saw as Crystals of Ice & Flame (from Ouro). What the heck were those? Were they ever used or just left over objects?
  • Founders' Falls Safeguard/Mayhem. When coming out of the Police Station side mission, sometimes players would fall to the bottom of the world -- a flat, no surface space with nothing around. /stuck would reset the player to the point of just exiting the police station and falling again.
  • Founders' Falls: What's with all of the pedestrians around the one building on the island in the middle of the zone? (I'm sure you know the one.) They keep going around and around and around. No other pedestrians anywhere else in the zone, just on that island.
  • (I consider this a bug and I hope you see why...) The most sought-after Giant Monster in the game that can be spawned by player action is Caleb in Nerva. It spawns HIGH in the sky and it virtually impossible to detect unless you're in his direct flight path. I would have suggested a "Summoning Area" (like what is now for Adamastor) in which it would spawn. That way, more players could have gotten him after all of the work of causing him to spawn.
  • I still have a newbie Hero (lvl 2 untrained) in Outbreak on a Live Server. Bug? or Working As Intended?
  • (This is an obscure bug that had since been patched.) Masterminds could enter a lower-level mission with pets summoned inside at the right exemplared level but receive benefit of having buffs they would not normally have at the exemplared level. Example: Level 50 Mastermind teamed with a level 1. Level 50 MM is made the team leader. MM summons pets and buffs them. Level 50 then enters (without setting) the level 1's mission. Inside the mission, the MM's pets would spawn as level 1 with level 6 and level 32 buffs applied.

Added
  • (I experienced this myself.) Sometimes mission beacons for side-specific missions would move after a patch. I had a character that had one of the Shadow Shard "repeatables" where you could 'harvest' the Kora Fruit. After one patch after the RWZ was introduced, that mission beacon was moved from Firebase Zulu to RWZ. I was teamed with a group of folks and a Hero clicked on that mission. We were having difficulties getting enough for a LGTF, so we decided we would see what that was. Everyone hopped in -- everyone including the Villains on our team. The Villains were still on the team, but any pets that Controllers/Dominators/Masterminds had out would start attacking the teammates. I cannot remember if players could attack each other or it was only the pets that were attacking the others of the other faction. I think I remember they still conned friendly, but you could execute attacks on them.

Love reading these little inside bits and HELL YEAH! It isn't goodbye, not yet it isn't, not yet! We have some time still and I would love to see us go out with a bang! Great story about the bug there too lol. Would have loved to see that...

Never knew you but I had seen the name here and there logged in. Honored that you took the time to chime in and thank you for your hard work in the background. I did a lot of testing (never actually got the bug hunter though, couldn't find THE BIG ONE Gah!) and I am imagining that was X1billion for you. I had a friend who was a tester for another game.

Anyways, thank you for loving the game and godspeed! Lets ride this sucker till the wheels fall off

Many of the people that made things like hero MM's or Villain controllers did so by cheating/hacking. (Some were legit though, from what I was told.)

I feel a little bad about it, because it got someone banned, but I befriended of the these hackers and reported them after they showed me how they used a memory editor. What they did was start to create a villain-only AT.

When they got to a certain point, they would use the memory editor to "freeze" bits of data from being re-written. They would then use the frozen bits, exit the villain AT creation then start up the Hero character creator. This would cause the AT/Powers/etc data to stay set to the villain info they created earlier. They would then get through the character creation and enter Atlas/Outbreak with a villain AT set to the hero data.

Thankfully the devs quickly added some safeguards to prevent that from happening again.

Oh, I still regularly get behind the walls in Cimerora... >.> Sadly they removed all of the Cimerorans from behind the walls

Hmm.

Here's basically a full Magisterium trial, but held in the Negative Zone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGLP_o_5Vdc

That's a pretty great video, Arcanaville! Hope you've had a chance to complete the trial in the intended map, too. Though "negaverse" Magisterium looks like it might be easier to run since it highlights the targets clearly.

(PS The UI is definitely ingrained for me. I kept trying to left-click and drag-down the mouse to change the angle view.)

My favorite glitch I experienced. During a trial, a friend's Male level 50 Force Field controller somehow got duped with a female level 24 Dark/Ele defender who was also on the team. Almost like the database records got crossed up in some kind of race condition. He tried to respec his character, but the game client would instantly crash when he typed "/respec".

How's this for an impossible power set... dated 06/24/2006:

My favourite bug was during CoV beta. I played a stalker, aggro seemed to be calculated on the basis of how much damage was done, meaning AS generated quite a lot. So I popped some reds, BU, AS and the next 3 rooms turned up.

As annoying as it was, I will never forget the lag waves of year #1. It was like playing with a time bomb strapped to your chair. You just never knew for certain if someone would sneeze and take down all of the servers. It added a real life element of suspense to the game. I'm sure it was planned that way.

There's this NPC in Nerva on the dock near the ferry who pushes a barrel around. One issue he was bugged and would continue pushing his barrel, off the docks, and all over the sea then come back out of the ocean.

The snake egg bugs. In mercy there was a lowbie mish (Geist arc I think) where there were these snake eggs & you had to bust them open in a certain time otherwise it would spawn a baby cobra. One issue the eggs wouldn't break open & you could take your time. I remember madly panicking thinking I would never get them open in time, then i started to miss them not doing so.

*note* - I used to love the -POCK!- -goop!- sound that the eggs would make if you busted them fast enough. Heh.

The stupid sliding-along-a-fence-bug. It's a bug dammit.
You know what I'm talking about. You're running along with superspeed at a million miles per second and then you go to leap over this fence and... you get stuck on it, whizzing sideways. A super powered being. And not able to get over the fence. Sliding on it. Have to hop back off it & try again. *kicks fence*

The stupid trashcan inside the foyer next to the photocopier in the entry to the warehouse map (not quite a) bug. You know that bin. It's the one if you ran into it with superspeed on you'd get stuck in the bugger & have to flop about to get out.

The I-can-walk-through-the-mesh-fence-if-i-have-superspeed-on-bug.
You know those mesh fences? The chickenwire ones? If you have superspeed on, you can pass through the fence. Just bump it a 2nd time. You'll see. (I sometimes expect to fall onto the ground in diced little chunks).

That time the face-makers-face-was-on-the-side-of-her-face bug.
Man she was scary before but this bug made her even scarier.

The skirts all turned sideways bug.
My empathy defenders skirt is still sideways, I think it looks cool, the stars are down the front.

Wrapped stilletto boots bug. That one time, it was gone, and a few of us wrapped stilletto addics were OMG Nooooo....

The Tsoo-ambush-inside-the-tailor-building exploit.
I remember this one time, I exited my tailor screen & was dead.
Turned around, realised that a bunch of purple Tsoo bosses/sorcs/minions had run amok. Half the players were stuck in gravity holds.
Some level 50 tool had taken his tailor mish, in an 8man group, and the ******* had used wormhole to put all the mobs inside. It was a massacre.

The not-a-bug-bug when you TUK MAH BRUTES SHINY SILVER INVINCIBILITY AURA and gave me that awful dull one. He still sulks.

That time when all the ice in the frostfire map turned invisible. But was still there. Except you'd think you were on carpet but sliding helter skelter.
Except for us vets who.. sadly... knew where all the ice was even when we couldn't see it. >.> And we'd even slide on the invisible ice ramp >.>

The hidden entrance in boomtown where you could fly under the map in boomtown by flying UP inside a tunnel bug. Then float underneat and LOL at mobs and use KB on clockwork and Babbage bug. Just don't fly too close or he'd roflstomp you. It was funny.

The 'i logged out in the chalet bug during xmas & now I logged back in after the event ended & am floating in infinityyyyyy' bug. Until you moved.

The server is down for maintenance - but I quickly snuck into the costume creater 10 seconds before downtime bug. ANd then I could sit there during maintenance and PLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY with costume ideas for hours. >.>

That time the LGTF had a map with mobs that looked like they were floating in the air in a cavern (the ramps were invisible on certain angles).

That time 'Bounces the Brute' went to Bloody Bay and ended up coming out in Paragon City... Long before villains and heroes could co-op.

Existing villain newspaper missions after a patch (and you'd aquired the mission prior to the patch/update). You'd enter but there would be no mobs. Run to the end, mission would complete. Look around.. wtf?

The elusive glowing pile of dirt you couldn't find to click in one mission in faultline.

That time in the Rogue Isles, in Port Oakes, if you exited your SG portal you would end up UNDER the world. And if you had fly you could fly up to the road, just beneath players, and barely poke out your head and yell "BOO!" We used to haunt players with that bug. Was fun

That time when your mastermind would level and BAM all your pets would die bug. Followed by my mm dieing. :P

Not a bug but fun exploit. When a succubus would confuse you. And then my plant dom would turn around and hold a team mate XD Except not so much fun when my boyfriend got confused. Cos he has an energy melee stalker. OW :P I'd hear *FFFFFFFFTTTTSSSHHHH!* (popping buildup) BAM! *plop over dead* Followed by me yelling at him.

Kiting that jerk ghost of scrapyard to the brokers bug. And watching him flop over and his millions of followers run off in a mad stampede.

That time the Crey Plasma & Cryo bosses were OP. I remember one with a flamethrower doing an attack & melting the entire team. *shudders*

That time the wyvern bosses on one of the villain TF missions had a super-OP version of rain of arrows. *shudders*

That Cap Diable mish where you kidnap NPCs from the skulls and take them to the Vazilok. And there is a cutscene. One of the vazilok in the cutscene would stand up & sit down, each time sitting down on a totally different object.

That time warshades had a glitch when changing costumes in crab-form, and would end up with new emotes that we didn't have access to.

The if-I-use-hover-and-then-/emote drumlow-I-can-lean-backwards-and-then-scoot-about-the-floor-in-circles-playing-my-drum-and-freaking-out-newbiews-bug.

Fun times If I think of more, I'll add

My fave bugs were costume creator related. My main still has a 'missing right hand' costume, for that time he was lost in the Shadow Shard.

but THIS one takes the cake. Naturally I never took him/her out of the tutorial, and never posted the pic before, to avoid getting banned. But now...

Two of my favorite bugs were from the beta of inventions, and I got the Touch of Lady Grey: Chance for Negative Damage proc. In its first incarnation, the proc would, when it went off, literally do a negative amount of damage to your target, healing it. That was fixed, to be replaced by a different bug, making the enhancement into what I referred to as 'Touch of Lady Grey: Chance to One-Shot' -- when the proc went off, it would do some huge multiple of your target's base HP as its damage. Looking to see how far that went, I took the character with the enhancement slotted out to Crey's Folly and literally -- the first attack -- one-shotted Jurassik, doing '4.083e+006' points of damage to him. While laughing at the image of Jurassik falling over like four tons of bricks, I thought at the time that it was nice to see that there was a graceful fallover for amounts of damage too huge to be displayed in the normal numeric format.

Not necessarily the most favorite bugs, but some of the classics:

1. The "someone forgot to modify the spawn table" bug that caused all the critters in an instance map to spawn as MekMen. And sometimes the civilians as well.

2. The "baby boom" bug that caused Indy port to fill with so many civilians many players couldn't enter the zone without lagging out completely.

3. The "where is everybody" bug that sometimes caused players to zone into a mission unable to see other team mates or enemy critters.

4. The "is it a bug or is it a feature" that allowed players to post pictures into global chat for a brief time.

The bug I never reported, because I never got a chance to test it to see if it really worked:

Reichsman's immense strength at the end of the two 5th task/strike forces is due to a power that buffs him. Unlike most AVs that just have purple triangles, he has a passive power that permanently buffs him. But its not actually permanent. The buffs last 999,999 seconds. And the activation period is zero. I believe activation period zero has an undocumented behavior where the power ticks once and only once. So 11 days, 13 hours, 46 minutes, 39 seconds after he spawns in that mission, I believe those buffs vanish.

I was going to try to solo him on my Blaster for both Master Of badges using that bug to see if it worked, but I needed a 12 day period where the servers would not be reset to do it. Which only happens occasionally during long holiday periods, like around Christmas and New Years. I missed last year, and was going to try again this year.

Its a silly bug, but I was planning on taking video of it and seeing if anyone could have guessed what was happening in the video if it worked. I think a dev thought it could work, because that power originally buffed for only 99,999 seconds. Only slightly more than one day.
