Can someone please explain why an invading army would announce its invasion beforehand?

*the Warshade drummed her fingers impatiently on her desk after getting the message* Bring it on. Can't wait for the day we can finally shove you idiots back through the hole and seal it once and for all.

*she snapped her head up quickly* Uhhh, sorry, Mrs. Anderson, important message, didn't mean to interrupt.

(Lucretia, it's often done for morale purposes. It's an attempt to demoralize people in the army's path.)

When the invasion starts, the sky goes green, the War Walls come down, and the sirens start blaring. All the mobs on the street disappear.

About a minute or two later, a series of Rikti dropships begin flying through the zone, bombing everything in their path. Some bombs explode on impact, others sit delayed. You get a badge for blowing up the delayed ones.

That lasts about 5 minutes. Then waves of Rikti (based on the # of heroes in the zone) begin teleporting in AROUND you. For crowd control, this is why heroes/villains tend to gather in one spot. AoE is your friend. The more in one zone, the better the chance that the invaders will bust out the Heavy Armored Assault Suits (you get a badge for those as well).

Eventually the Walls come back up and they teleport away.

When you attack, they are automatically ranged to your level, so EVERYONE is on an equal playing field. This is a great chance for healing badges, debt badges, inf, prestige, etc.

If you're in a high populated server that's REALLY feeling motivated, you can put together a dropship team and go to town.

I will for sure....

It is a shame it is a big effort and there is not even a blasted badge for it though! If there was it would be much easier to get a group big enough.

Teh devs should fix that.

Megalomania loves an audience?

I have a number of heroes who arose out of the rubble of what used to be Baumton. They always avail themselves of the opportunity to explain to the Rikti visitors their disagreement with the wholesale massacre of men, women and children that occurred back in May 2002.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

*Edit* My bad. Thought you were talking about the raid in general. Not whacking down dropships. Sorry.

Actually there ARE badges (and an Accolade) tied to it.

One for killing bombs.
One for killing Rikti.
One for killing Assault suits.

Getting them all gets you the Watchman accolade and the Elusive Mind power.

There are also weapon unlocks for Rikti Sword, Rikti Katana, Rikti Axe, Rikti Blaster and Rikti Rifle.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Hyperstrike,

Could you provide a little more detail on how the weapon unlocks happen? I looked on Paragon Wiki for the Rikti Invasion but it doesn't mention them.

I get what you're saying, but if you saw how gleefully murderous my villain is while he was doing work for the "greater good" you might hesitate to call his actions wholly charitable.

As I said before, I suspect the coordinator of this invasion is the infamous (and surprisingly still alive) Napo'Leon Bon'Parte

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

Similarly, my ninja-Widow loves working with Vanguard. Not only do they encourage her to slaughter astonishing numbers of Rikti, they give her UFO catcher tickets for it! ^_^

I was very confused about heroes rising out of the rubble of what used to be Batman.

...I forgot what experience means.

For years the Devs have been saying the Rikti Invasion spawning code ignores stealth*. So is it lies or them knowing less about how invasions work than you do?

*Although it's not like there is an enemy type that ignores stealth**, so how could they possibly make the invasion code do it?

**Because actually there are multiple critter types that do so. i wonder why they didn't think to use it for the invasions?

Unlocking Watchman unlocks those weapons.

If they used similar or the same spawn coding in the Nemesis Invasion, then the spawning does ignore stealth, though the mobs won't see you stealthed... unless its a drone. The increased perception is just evil .

To clarify the whole "stealth" issue:

Rikti Invasion Mechanics

To re-affirm Dark Watcher's statement regarding stealth:

"Stealth powers have no effect on the Rikti's ability to select a Hero or Villain as a target and their counting scanners for determing threat levels are likewise not affected by stealth."

I've never been ignored by the Rikti during raids even when stealthed.

I can be off by myself and they'll port in to where I am.

Most of my characters with Stealth use a Celerity in Sprint (always on) and Cloaking Device. One uses SS coupled with Celerity in Sprint (always on), two use Stealth from the Concealment pool with Celerity in Sprint (always on), one uses Group Invisibility coupled with Celerity in Sprint (always on).

Similarly, I've not had problems with the Nemesis invasion troops or Zombie Apocalypse in getting them to see me due to my stealth.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

You know what would be awesome? If the rikti actually had strategies. They should observe that players tend to gather to the highest concentration of enemies and concentrate all of the troops in one spot. When all the heroes have gathered to that spot, they teleport out their troops and send in a wave of drop ships which carpet bomb the heroes.

They'll also observe that the villains are too intelligent to be fooled like that and just leave them alone. Only for the villains to make portals of their own and attack the home world directly just for the evulz.

Then the villains turn on each other, I come out on top. Everybody wins! Except for those unfortunate enough to not be me.

Villains: Destroyed. Heroes: Eliminated. Rikti: Dead.

Grim: Victorious.
