Celestial Armour

I just got the 2nd Celes costume pack with my paragon rewards. I was looking forward to trying some of those back pieces.

So I head to a trainer to have a look and find....then are all 'spawning' like 10 in game inches AWAY from the back of my toon. They are just hanging in mid air, and look utterly stupid. As a comparison, the fire/ice back bits snap directly onto the characters back, no gap in sight.

Is this really how they are meant to be? I have seen some nice costumes using the back bits...and no huge gaps.

As an aside..the Celestial Rifle is one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen in this game. Actually..it is. Nothing celestial about it..its a tube of about 5 polygons, with a MS paint texture.

The Celestial back pieces aren't supposed to be stuck to your back. They're meant to float behind you, giving you a sort of otherwordly, mystic, ethereal tribal look.

In fact they'd probably look stupid if they did connect to your back.

Yeah, I always took the Celestial Back Pieces as intentionally looking mystical. And have used them as such, since I got them.

Ok obviously what is meant to be 'mystical' looks stupid to me. What other mystical mobs do we have? Cot? No magical flying back bits on them.

A couple of the pieces look like they really should connect, to my mind. Particularly the one partial ring that just...stops right around the where the shoulders would be ending it, were it a few inches further forward.

I agree with you that it's probably intended that way. But I also agree with MisterD that many would probably look better properly attached.

Pretty weak argument, tbh

This isn't a CoT pack. It's Celestial. The pieces don't connect, and weren't meant to. If you don't like the pieces, don't use them.

At least one of the fancy back pieces looks connected to the back if you are using the Mangler Gears shoulder piece; I have a power armored villainess who has that and it actually looks kind of cool.

Did you forget about the halos? They just float above the wearer's head and don't connect to anything either.

I would think that an argument for not having them connect.

I seldom think - what new piece could we have that's like everything else we already have.

I usually think - what new piece could we have that is different from what we already have.

On the Huge model, at max physique, with Celestial Armor 01 Chest detail the Celestial Armor 03 Back Pack (glowing rings with "fiery" effect) is almost attached. You have to view it at just the right angle to see that the rings don't in fact connect. Almost as if it were meant to connect.

The 02 Back Pack (solid metal ring) is just a little further out, but not much.

The 03 Back Pack, is very far out.

Compare to the female model and all 3 back pieces float a good distance away from the model.

I agree that having them float away from the body has an other worldly effect. That doesn't necessarily mean it's mystical in essence

Maybe if the game would let you preview the bits BEFORE unlocking..oh wait, that would be logical. Letting people SEE what they are spending reward points on before hand. Especially since all the store bought bits can be previewed.

You never bothered to LOOK AROUND and see the people with the floating arcs on thier backs and ask "Hey, what is that?"

Yeah..you know...you could have just broadcast in the game saying.

"Hey can anyone show me what the celestial stuff looks like?"

I'm sure there would be someone that would show you what they look like.

I'm guessing you blew a massive chunk of change in order to get them before they disappeared and thus are now moaning about them because they're not something you wanted.

Besides just because YOU don't like doesn't mean it's stupid, you don't have to use the pieces in question, it is that wonderful thing called 'options' and 'choice' that we have.

Also your being an pancake but that's just me.

Really?

You really mean that?

You really think that floaty back pieces is "stupid" for "mystical" costume pieces?

Well you go ahead and believe that, in the meantime, this character of mine has a few choice words for you. The first begins with the letter 'F' and the second word ends with the letter 'U'.

So do as he says and "F'tghan Ls'schu".

Oddly enough, I haven't used them in that way. I've used one of them--the modernistic, Art Deco-ish, shimmering semicircular arc, for technological/scientific characters. I've rationalized that weirdly glowing semicircle as an kinetic energy collector, FTL radio or force field projector for aliens or time travelers with ultratech.

Basically following Clarke's third law.

Bad ***. Love when costume pieces get used creatively.

Also, yeah, calm down OP.

You're an angry man. You should probably calm down. Can I order you a tranq or two, is that what you're looking for?

I personally love the celestial set...except for the rifle.

If you thought the back pieces and the rifle were bad, wait until you see the War Mace....

(Personally, I think the Celestial Set was fine and worth the money)

I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...

At least you HAVE the Celestial armor. I, meanwhile, am 19 tokens away from the full set, which means that I have no chance at all of getting them all before they disappear forever 10 days from now.

If the marketing people would give us any inkling of WHEN they will supposedly return to tier 9, then I would maybe start to think of their promise that "No, really, we swear we'll give you another chance at it, honest" as something other than a crock of horse apples.

I guess I should apologize for your less than logical reasoning and inability to ask for help.

To be fair, your post was a rant. It didn't really warrant a well-thought response.

I agree with the idea that there should be a preview of VIP Sets (or any new costume piece for that matter). I don't agree that it looks silly. I've used those pieces on a few toons and it always looks great to me.

Thanks!

Anyway, yeah, there's lots of ways you can use these and other costume pieces, doesn't have to be strictly magical or technological. For example the celestial pistols and rifle can easily interpreted as death ray zap guns or electromagnetic rail guns. Just broaden your mind a bit.
