Aww, this situation calls for a Jackie Chan marathon.

Netflix Wench! Your requested day off has been rebuked!

What an amazingly talented, skilled and dedicated craftsman!
I tend to look at Jackie Chan somewhat like the Hong Kong Charlie Chaplan (and/or Buster Keaton, too).

The humor and wit he has achieved with his choreography is just extraordinary!

It's somewhat sad news to hear, but... it's amazing he's done it as long as he has (and, yeah, that he survived, hah).

Hah... that made me sad to think (I hadn't even thought about the fact that HE should have been in those!), but... then again, his definition of "action movies" may be greatly different than the Hollywood definition, such that even the Expendables could be classified, hehe.

"Oh! When you say 'action', you don't mean me jumping out of moving cars and over steep alleyways and into flying helicopters?? Hahah, I can still do your supposed 'action' movie, Hah!"

EDIT:
And, obviously, I typed my response before reading the actual article and quotes. Regardless, good for him. Never say never though!

I was just mentioning him in another thread. I hope he does better than Ron Jeremy with his serious acting bid.

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

Best stuntman in history imo. He did very well in The Karate Kid remake. Seriously he should have doing those mentor type roles over the last decade. He can act and doesn't need to be the goofball all the time. I think he's been selling himself short as an actor for quite some time.

He was the best part of that movie.

I have enjoyed watching his films for years... A tribute may be in order!

Okay all Martail Arts, Kinetic Melee, Staff Weapons, Dual Blades, Katana, Street Justice and let's include Dual Pistols (Gunfu). Assemble in Atlas park for a torch held tribute to JC. It's the least we can do half our moves probably came from some Dev watching him work!

Maybe he is just a natural goofball so was drawn to those roles who knows. I loved everything that I can think of of Jackie Chan even his cartoon "Jackie Chan Adventures" I thought was pretty good. The worse things he did was probably the Rush hour movies but even those I still got a good laugh from.

As much as it saddens me to no longer see him be a butt-kicking badass on the big screen, he *is* nearing sixty and you gotta give him props for doing it for so long!

Jackie Chan did stunts in real life that made Agents in the Matrix go "screw that."

As he says in the article, he likes action but doesn't like hard core violence. That would tend to draw him towards slapstick as the appropriate venue for action without serious violence.

It's actually pretty good. I like it more than the original (but I don't really have the nostalgia glasses on the original). This might help if you're having doubts.

He, Sammo, and Stephen Chow should get together and do a Three Stooges movie.

GOOD NEWS!!

This just in from Jackie himself on Facebook.

Quote:
Hello all my friends and fans,

Yesterday in my press conference in Cannes for Chinese 12 Zodiac I said that this movie was my last big action movie.

Today I was shocked when I woke up to read all the news coverage that I was retiring from doing Action movies.

I just want to let everyone know that I am not retiring from doing action movies. What I meant to say is that I need to do less of the life risking stunts on my movies. After all these years of doing so many stunts and breaking so many bones, I need to take better care of my body so I can keep working.

I will continue to do international action movies.

And I will keep improving my English :-)

I love all of you!

Jackie

This made me LOL big time.

I remember the first time I saw Jackie Chan was in The Cannonball Run. It wasn't a major role, not really memorable at the time either (I was fairly young when I saw it).

The next time I saw him was in Rumble in the Bronx, and was hooked after that.

Years later when I rewatched The Cannonball Run, I was like "O_O NOWAI That's Jackie Chan!"

Jackie's a fun guy to watch on the screen, and from what I've read, he's a pretty nice person off screen too. I selfishly hope he doesn't retire anytime soon

Also, One More Thing.......... JACCCKKKIEEEEEE.... Chan Adventures was an awesome cartoon

(Uncle kind of steals the show though hehe)
