My concern here is... will the system know to not offer an item I already own? I mean, like a costume piece? Or the items will be just consumables?
Can anyone have a free powerset using this system?

Im thinking that it might be something simple, like a few team inspirations, charges of self rez or mission tp, maybe 1 astral merit or ICON tokens.

I for one would LOVE the idea of getting a free Super pack every Friday. If it really is a random item from the wholae market, maybe they could offer you a couple of things so you dont end up getting double.

Something like: Would you like A) Cossie peice, B) A set of 5 super insps or C) 10 x Icon tokens.

Anyway, these things are FREE! FREE I TELL YOU! And with all things free, you can either accept them or not take them that week.

Rockshock (Druid Tanker), Medicat (Combat Medic), Dwarf From the North (Ice Mage), Rocket Gal (Energy Blaster), Graveborn (Undead Mastermind), Streeker (Punching Speedster), Op. Sidewinder (Recluse's pet Spider)

There is no "system" really. We pick an item to offer up as a Freebie Friday item and we set its cost to zero for the day. If you already own it, then we encourage you to come back next week when we'll have a new item available to you.

Thanks for the explication. I though it was a random system at the market, now everything makes sense. Thanks again.

You've probably heard this already, but since there are so many rednames on this thread, I'll repeat it:

Freebies are nice, but a feature for the Market I'd really like to see is showing if you've already bought a given item. (At present, the only way I know of doing this is attempting to purchase it again.)

Why is it that so many people labor under the ridiculous notion that the developers who work with the market are the same developers who work with "something serious" like PvP?..

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

Of course I could tangentially jump in here to argue that PvP is itself not important enough to this game to be "seriously worked" on by -any- kind of Dev, but I wouldn't want to upset anyone who might think otherwise.

The best part about this is, judging by history, the chances are pretty good that someone will hit the wrong button, and it'll be free Titan Weapons for everyone!

And to that effect, I expect them to have a greater than 0% success rate.

Thinking about it, maybe have a "coupon" that's (in-game) emailed to the accounts during the time window. Then when the person goes to the PM and selects "Freebie" from the store, they can just punch in that weeks' "coupon" code and it's still free.
Dude, why you gotta make this so complicated?

Just log in any time within 24 hours of when the promotion started, access the store, and put the free item in your cart. Done.

Yeah, it's not technically Friday everywhere just because it's Friday where the devs are in California, but don't blame them for running events on their schedule just because it might inconvenience someone else. -_-

As I think they've mentioned about a hundred times already, that would require engineering (programming) support.

Their current give away just requires someone log into the store and set the cost of an item to zero. These are astronomical distances apart in terms of time, resources and the different teams who implement them.

The revised announcement already covers this, but legal is currently reviewing a wording proviso that would specify that the item in question may be an item the player already possesses, because in preliminary testing it was discovered checking a candidate item to see if any of the active accounts of players that satisfy the psychological profile of expressing displeasure at such a collision possessed the item would take approximately eleven thousand two hundred fifty three times longer than the resources currently allocated to the project would allow. Internal audit is currently reviewing if this is a Q&A deficiency, or a producer error.

Actually, I thought it was because the store interface is actually licensed from a completely external development studio, so the Paragon developers couldn't really tinker with it if they wanted to.

Let us assume, for a moment, that a given Freebie Friday item is a costume piece.
And that the costume piece is one the player doesn't have.
But it is part of a costume set.

Were the player to get the piece and later decide they want the set... would they be prevented from getting the discounted set because they already have a piece from the set?

The notion that it might be licensed, as opposed to a work for hire, reminds me that below the number zero lies an unbounded amount of negative integers.

Nope, nothing stops you from buying a costume bundle just because you've already got one of the individual pieces.

It probably goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: you will NOT get any further discount on the costume set just because you already own part of it.

Off by a factor of approximately 35,000,000. But you were close. Ish.
