Admin channel event spam
I see the need for an all-inclusive admin channel.
I also can see that it can get a little overwhelming if used for "admin RP."
I don't see a good way to fix it, other than for the admins to recognize the problem and use discretion. I do think that they need to use the admin channel to announce that they are having an event and, since people are constantly logging on, they should probably continue to use it to let new arrivals know something is going on. Switching to local, broadcast, or some other channel would not let players outside the zone know that something is going on that they might want to participate in. Additionally, it would be difficult to differentiate Admins from everyone else in the channel.

I find it is usually akin to overhearing a phone conversation. Add me to the nice to have an option list.
It does not happen that often so it should not be such a big deal.

When I'm having to constantly scroll through bold red spam to see chat that I've missed during RP? Yes, it does interfere with my playstyle THAT much. It's not a big thing to ask. Lighten up, someone asking for a minor courtesy isn't going to interfere with your playstyle THAT much.

If the CR team want me to sit down with them and teach them how to run an in-game RP event I'd be more than happy to.
No more often than it happens, I thought Zwillinger showing up to RP Nemesis (and to respond in-character to questions on VU!?!) was kind of adorable.
What I thought that this was going to be about was the automatic event-spam, which is out of control.
When a Nemesis Invasion happens, for each affected zone, it spams at least five messages, and I think it's six: impending invasion, invasion about to begin, invasion begun, EB spawned, EB defeated, invasion ended. And I could make a really strong case that nobody who isn't already in that zone cares about any but the first and the last of those.
I'd like to see a change to the generic-invasion-event code so that the first message and the last message go to the Hero/Villain/Praetorian Events channel, and any messages in between go to Broadcast in the affected zone only.
Except your analogy would be better if you stated the Manager of Denny's came into the main room and yelled "Apple Pie will be going on sale in 10 minutes!" The admin channel is used to announce ya know.. game stuff not totally random stuff like "woohoo my team just won the superbowl!"

We're not going to stop using the Admin channel to run these events.
I do understand, and apologize that we may be disturbing your game play for a short period of time, however the admin channel is what we use to be certain that everyone knows the event is happening for the duration of the event. Because these events are relatively spontaneous this year (I can't allocate 4-6 hours a day for the entire team for a month solid to schedule the events out) it's very important that everyone know a live event is happening.
Take solace in the fact that we are usually only present for 30-45 minutes. Also, keep in mind that some of the "admin chat" is actually done in the "zone admin" channel which only hits the map it's on.

I highly support announcing the event over Admit, and re-announcing it multiple times if necessary. So long as the actual event content is kept out of the Admin channel, then the announcements are very welcome and not at all intrusive.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Jus' saiyan.
The Admins need a separate Admin Zone Event channel. This new channel would work exactly like current Admin, but not extend outside of the zone the Admin is working in. They could announce events' starts, critical updates, and endings over normal Admin, and then confine their event chatter to the zone it's taking place in.

And this is all I'm looking for. Limiting it to an announcement and reminders, not taking it COMPLETELY out of the global admin channel.

I'd hate, for instance, to hear someone got kicked while in the middle of an event/timed mission/etc. because they got so used to seeing chatter they have zero interest in (invasions) that they ignored the "Emergency maintenance, server shutting down in two minutes!" warning.
...and this is why I didn't post this here in the first place. A redname comment when it was moved, and now ignored.

I see the complaints. Constant chatter of any kind can be annoying, provided of course that you are not involved and/or do not wish to be involved.
That said, if what Zwillinger says is true, and the initial announcement is made over the global admin channel while all other following chat is confined to the zone-specific admin channel, then I cannot understand asking them to do anything more. I can only speak for myself, but Pinnacle had Zwillinger show up with about 10 "Nemesis" GMs a couple nights ago, and his ridiculous in-character chatter was quite amusing given the combination. The other 20 or so people in the league thought the same.
To each his/her own, I suppose. But again, if what Zwillinger said is indeed the case, then there's really nothing left to be said/done then to do what I do when an event in which I have no interest spawns in the zone I am currently in: move to a different zone temporarily.

Important system, security or update messages should be completely different to Event Chatter.

I'm with most everyone else. There's a big difference - for example - between a occasional reminder that an CC is being held in Pocket D and a blow-by-blow of the contestants and the winners, especially when you're not remote anywhere near the D. Players get in trouble for spamming wall-o-texts frequently in public channels. I think all we're asking is that the Admins hold themselves to the same rules
... Hit it ...

Unless Nemesis is set up in my base, in addition to whatever zone he was in.
I'd take the warnings fine, but it's obtrusive to see messages like silly shout-outs when I'm not in the zone. Or that he didn't bring the warhorses this time. or whatever other nonsense.
The PVP thing they did a couple of weeks ago seemed to be done fine. I saw the message announcing the event, the Paragon Studio participants, and the goodbye message.
But even during the PS ran CCs, do I really need to see Positron and Ghost Witch informing the entire server about the difficulty in choosing a winner? Or how wonderfully imaginative people in Pocket D regarding clown costumes?
Pass.

It doesn't really bother me, but I can't understand why some people here are apparently offended by the mere idea of giving other people the choice to not read admin chat if they don't want to. Is this one of these "I really like that thing, and you not liking the same thing as me is making me angry" thing?
