Player's Summit
They're not ignoring you. They know you're there. And small things, here and there, are being done in PVP. Just not the overhaul that it truly needs. Kinda similar to the base crowd.
.... The devs have been clear about this. Simply because someone missed the official answers and demands "the schpiel" all over again doesn't mean they should take time away from other, more current questions and their duties to chew old fat. |
i know that bases is a pretty straight forward answer, and pvp is too, though it has a lot more issues i think. and they HAVE explained it lots of times, but those times have all been to small audiences or in obscure places.
it would be nice to have it easy to find, in the forums and linkable, to reduce the fuss about it until it can be properly looked at... maybe... so when people say "why is BLAH broken or why isnt BLAH being looked at?!?!" people can say "link to answers here."

From what I can gather (speculating) Issue 23 will launch very soon and Issue 24 may also be released for the summer (probably July/August). Issue 24 appears to be a big issue with a lot of new stuff. Very interesting summer!
Both this thread and the Plummet itself reinforced an idea that my brain just keeps stubbornly resisting: the players have some very, very eccentric fixations.
Post-apocalyptic costume set? I'd never been given even the slightest impression that there was anyone interested in this sort of thing, but now we're getting it, according to this thread because it had the best and most popular presenter.
Radiation armor? I might've argued for this, but I'd always had the impression that I was in a very small minority. I'm even more surprised at comments like, "Thrown Weapons allows for so much more." Ultimately, it makes little difference to me. I like new sets, regardless of what they are.
As for zone revamp, while I've found lots of forumites' suggestions both interesting and of limited appeal to the game as a whole, Independence Port really has me scratching my head.
I see the same sort of peculiar, eccentric preoccupations in-game. I have one channel-mate who will complain about the lack of banking animations for flying characters on any pretext and who never takes Fly as a result. I never would have even noticed this "issue," let alone thought of it as a problem.
Those sorts of preoccupations develop naturally in a group this size, but I'm always surprised when one of them, whether it originates with a developer or a player, rises to the level of something that makes it into the game. It always feels as if someone happened to find the Golden Ticket in his Wonka Bar while the rest of us have merely the delicious chocolate. Not so much a complaint here as an observation.
Perhaps I'm not the best choice to comment on this sort of thing. The feature I always wanted (make your own missions) was added to the game several years ago, and while it doesn't always work perfectly, it works well enough. But I remain perpetually surprised at some of the things that other people are looking for to complete their game experience.

It's kind of like the classic cliche where elections are controlled by the tiny subset of retired senior citizens are are the only ones who go out to vote. Until (or unless) the voices of the vast majority are heard we're always going to end up with slightly "disconnected" priorities from these things. *shrugs*

But it does leave me scratching my head about Radiation Armor. Yeah, I'm sure it's a hot topic of a lot of threads on the forums, but you can already make a radiation armor character in the game: Dark Armor colored something other than dark and Radiation Emissions on Defender, Controller or Corruptor. IMO, asking for Rad armor is like asking for melee weapon sets on Defender/Controller to fit the theme of a melee Rad character...or asking for Storm Armor because apparently Storm Summoning isn't 'armory' enough on those other ATs.
Feels like the playerbase is squandering what little opportunity we have...or maybe that the devs should actually use that avenue of player feedback to make future sets to avoid conflicts like Bio Armor vs Rad Armor...which I'm sure Bio could fit a Rad theme and if not, Dark.
That said, Thrown Weapons would have been a great set, animation wise, for the ranged ATs. Even if kept simple, there are various ways to throw things: overhand, under, backhand sweep, multiples, arching...a lot of character movement vs push hand out, push two hands out.

We're geeks ( Seriously, if you're playing this game, especially if you're serious enough about it to go to something like the Player's Summit, you're a geek. If you say you're not, you're just in denial ). How does this come as a surprise to you?

For better or worse we usually tend to be "at the mercy" of that kind of player where these things are concerned.

Well, you have to remember the forums aren't the only avenue to speak about the game or even are the majority when it comes to thoughts or ideas.

The devs also said just because we didn't pick yours for this part of the summit, does not meant it will not get made. So it is possible (even probable) that we will see a thrown weapons set.
That is the great thing about the store. It has allowed for the creation of more power sets than we have seen in the last 3 or 4 years. Yeah, I will buy another $200 in cards if that gets me more cool power sets, that and I like the cards. It is fun to open them.
This last pack had some stuff I have REALLY enjoyed. Costumes, ATIOs, Reward Merits, and Self/ally Rez powers are at the top of the list. My Staff/EA scrapper has ALL of his IOs at +5 and I still have well over 300 enhancement boosters. Face it, the super packs were a good value, and the only real grumble is that that stuff was random. Shoot, I still giggle like a little girl ever time I get a 75 merit and a 100 merit card in the same pack.

Here's the notes I got on that:
Lore and Endgame Panel
Dr. Aeon, Protean, Arbiter Hawk, Posi
Big questions from the November Panel:
"How does Requiem feel about Reichsman?"
"What's Darren Wade been up to?"
"What's going on with Katie Douglas?"
This time!
What do you expect out of the Battalion?
"Earth go boom?" "Hey, if you don't want to fight the Battalion..."
Posi: The Battalion is better known as the Coming Storm. It is something destined to destroy the Earth.
Q: "I'm not saying endgame content... but aliens."
Q: Will they be Incarnate only?
Posi: Every army has it's shock troops.
Q: Will Mender Silos be helping us to escape to the universe with fingers and facial hair?
A: Not sure if serious.
(note: there were a few questions like this, with people asking if the story and Battalion invasion was really a set up for transitioning to CoH2 or some major game upgrade/revamp. The devs never seemed to answer that one)
Q: Will we be pushed to the edge of utter despair for 3 or 4 issues or will it be just "Heh, spike!"
A: We're going with the one that makes the better story.
Q: Will we be seeing the side picking like in GR?
Didn't catch the answer to that one.
Q: Can we fight the Batallion in space?
Posi: We like space.
Q: Will it be so earthshatering, the moon rises in the East and sets in the West?
A: ... We know, our moon is broken.
Devs on big changes to the game caused by player actions: You can't change geometry (like buildings) with phasing. We kind of have to lag by an issue when we do a big change, vis. Statesman.
This is a big cosmic level conflict.
Q: What if we use this to blow up our world and lead into a new world with CoH2?
Posi: But this is where I keep all my stuff...
Q: If the Shivans are the Shock Troops, who are the spies and collaberators?
A: That's an interesting question. I like how you think. But there are authority figures you can trust, we don't want this to turn into City of Anti-Authoritorians. But if there was a group that might be working with them... why, we'd have had to start laying subtle groundwork for them years ago, now wouldn't we?
Devs: We like to know our players goals and ambitions... so we can crush them. But seriously, what makes you feel epic? We know players want to be awesome.
Players: Saving lives. Firing off Judgement. Herding a whole map into one dumpster and burning them down. Saving the world (or ruling the world and crushing them beneath your boot). etc.
Pollyanna Matronic: Hi, my name is Pollyanna Matronic, I play red side and what makes me feel epic is killing lots and lots of people. Especially innocent people! ^_^
I admit, that made me giggle for a while.
This went on for a while. I was getting a headache and pretty tired, so I left as the "what makes you feel epic" thing went on. I'm not sure if there was anything else there.
EDIT: As always, pictures are courtesy of @PollyMatronic's Twitter. Thanks, Polly! (please don't kill me)

I think pretty much -everyone- who plays this game is a geek to a certain degree. The point is the player who would spend and entire day/weekend at a Pummit is at the very least a "special" kind of geek who's probably a bit more "out there" than even the normal type of geek.
For better or worse we usually tend to be "at the mercy" of that kind of player where these things are concerned. |

Couple of things I picked up while attending the Plummit:
There are more than a few people that attended that play CoV only.
The devs are flat-out tired about arguing about the edge case that is PvP.
600,000 or superpacks means a hell of a lot of money for the studio and additional development. (Disclaimer:I like them and buy them with the Tier 9 Reward)
I was rooting for Noir/Pulp;voted for paramilitary; and will probably use some things from the post-apoc costume set...
The Rad Armor set sounds great (I voted for Thrown Weapons) and the effects are different enough from other sets that it should be cool.
I listened to Black Scorpion describe just how weirdly built the code for bases was and how adding/changing any functionality was always scary to do. (Black Scorpion is apparently the the official(?) code archeologist at Paragon. Also fascinating was hearing how Safeguard/Bank missions were designed.)
The devs all love giant robots and watching the mixed emotions of awesome and fear that went across Posi's face when the Striga Island revamp pitch started with Burkholder's robot exiting the volcano was worth the whole trip.
Positron should never karaoke Ke$ha...

You missed out something that could make dirty Villains weep with joy - when they were talking about how they liked space, and how SSA1.7 had proven that they could pull it off, they also floated the idea of letting red siders conquer their own planet as a substitute for taking over the world.

And the girl talking about murder arson and jaywalking is Polly Animatronic.
And it's humor people! HUMOR! |
But, seriously, jaywalking is just dangerous.
Having met her at both the summit in November and at this one, I can assure you that she is awesome and one of the nicest and friendliest people you will ever run across.

Pollyanna Matronic was probably the only villain at the summit, which unfortunately seems like an accurate representation of the hero to villain ratio of the game population.
|
I can't kill everyone. Who would I hang out with? Plus, it's hard enough to get a team going redside.
But it does leave me scratching my head about Radiation Armor. Yeah, I'm sure it's a hot topic of a lot of threads on the forums, but you can already make a radiation armor character in the game. |
Now, Castle pretty much shot it down, with some good reasons:
* The way debuffs scale is quite different to res or def.
* Weakness against ranged enemies
* Stepping on Defenders toes
However, it looks like the developers are now looking again at debuff defensive sets, which would but Radiation Armor back on the table. Obviously a debuff based defensive set could easily be broken, and would need extensive testing...
I really should do something about this signature.

Also, if I understood correctly, they said you don't want to side with a race that would obliterate you and all you know.
Yeah, there may be a dev or two that absolutely loves PvP, but it's kinda the back corner project of the game. And what is there was never intended to be as cut-throat competitive as it is in certain other MMOs.
