That's why you have to check the sig down below.

And it's now been 7 and a half years, not six. Last month I finally finished the last story arc in the game I hadn't seen (notwithstanding AE and Issue 22), so I'm getting crotchety about new stuff being new and not reminiscent of things we've already got.

I'm clinging barely to my tried-and-true schedule of 'play slower than the devs make new stuff'. Barely. I've now caught up with the current content being the only stuff I haven't done. And while I like the game a lot (having been subscribed for 7 years+) I know that if I tried to play more I would burn out and end up dropping it.

There are only so many times you can cruise around the Monopoly board before you get tired of playing Monopoly. And frankly, playing the Iron instead of the Race Car doesn't impact the journey that much.

I've gotten to the point where I want my token to be noticeably different. I want my Race Car to make zoom noises while the Iron gives off steam. I don't want my Dog to blink in the same way the Shoe and the Hat do, because that just doesn't cut it any more.

So I'll be giving the Staff a miss. I traded in points for Street Justice in January and it's function is just too similar to Dual Blades for me to go for yet *another* set in the same vein. (Especially now with the same mechanic added for all stalkers- thank you Bosstone for reminding me)

I admit my snark was a bit heavy. Psychic Melee sounds like it could be interesting. I quite like Time Manipulation and Darkness Control, even though I haven't gotten either set past level 22. But look at Bosstone's list again. In my opinion, there have just been too many sets released with the "build points towards an effect" mechanic in the last year.

I'm glad some people are happy this set is coming out, but I'm not going to support the powers design team falling into a rut just when I need them to step up their game, creatively.

Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

For the record; Staff Fighting is pretty Middle of the Road with Radius 2 longer AoEs.

... Yeah it's probably not worth the hype but it's cool? But it doesn't have Dual Blades potential. None of the attacks in Staff Fighting are remotely exceptional. It's Average piled on Average.

Worth 800 points? Maybe for 'look', but at least it's not as bad as Beast Mastery. I'm probably not buying this one unless I get my desired Naginata.

The deal that started this line was really the fact that you have not tried the set yet you are incorrectly convinced it's the same mechanic. I thought that too before I tired it and once I did I realized the differences. DB plays on an specific chain as the devs said on coffee talk, but Street Justice does not. They may seem similar but they really are very different. Same with staff.

Not trying to convince you to buy it, just that your assumptions like most are incorrect.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

It's a video game. There is always a large subsection of a playerbase for any game are little more than whiny man-children. (Heck, even I've done it a couple times over this game... GRRRRR DAY JOBS!)

It's also part of being a fan of something. You'll always encounter other fans who just take things to extremes and regard every decision they don't agree with as a sign that an apocalypse is coming to destroy everything they love.

Players were/are hyped up. I see "hype" as advertisements directly related to the marketing of the soon to be released product by the company.

I personally like the description of Sirius Cybernetics Corporation's Marketing Department as a baseline for Evil Marketing: "A bunch of mindless jerks who'll be first against the wall when the revolution comes."

But the set is just plain fun. There is nothing else to say about it but that. I know that is subjective, but hey it is my money. It is so 70's and 80's king fu that it is just a blast to play.

  • We've not given a release date for any Powerset to be released via the Paragon Market beyond a weeks notice.

I do understand excitement, I do understand wanting to play a new Powerset. I've certainly taken some of the frustration expressed over the development cycle and passed it along to the interested parties.

At the same time, I need to address something.

We're seeing an awful lot of very, very snide remarks and personal attacks directed at marketing and business development. I know it's easy, and popular, to point fingers at "Evil Marketing", but this sentiment has been extremely over the top lately. As I've clarified before, Community does not equate to Marketing here at Paragon. That does not mean that we're not all working towards the same goal.

Just as I will step in and say something when comments are going over the top towards development, I am doing the same thing with Marketing. You are more than encouraged to be critical of our practices, and to express your feedback as such. What is not acceptable are the personal insults we've seen as of late. This needs to stop. Our Business Development/Marketing team has been very successful in their strategy behind the Paragon Market release calendar, so let's please give them the credit they deserve for doing their part to help keep City of Heroes strong and sustainable for the foreseeable future.

I will always do my absolute best to keep everyone appraised as to how soon items are coming to the market. This may be done either directly, or through tongue in cheek hints. Please reference the Snow Globe "Zwillinger Soon™ chart" (I'm sure someone will link to it).

Thanks guys, and let's get ready to hit things with sticks.

I feel that our anger towards marketing is justified. They are the one thing that has truly kept this game from reaching its maximum potential. We hardly see any advertisement for this game except in the least impact places, crappy magazines and one product placement on a crappy tv show hardly anyone watches. Seriously then they go and pull the no staff fighting till now but force feed us all these fake companion pets that do nothing and IOs that can be easily gotten in game and you guys try to say you do not want to be perceived as trying to get our money. Dont make me laugh. All I can say is the next time something big like this is announced or worked on DO NOT make us wait an excessive amount of time on it.

Be grateful that Paragon Studios are nothing like EA/Bioware...Then you'd have something to be disgusted with.

Bioware mixed with this forum's community...

People would've complained Mass Effect 3's ending didn't have enough colors to choose from.

I been wanting this powerset since I started playing like 6 years ago...
4 months in beta is maybe too much, I know but come on its a game.
And its here, tomorrow we can buy Staff fighting. World hasnt ended (yet!)
Hope it comes with a Weapon pack.

The only thing I disliked about SF being held is that we going to have to wait a damn long time before we get another melee set (Psychic)

He can take it, it's not like he's changed over the years of people being critical of him.

I wouldn't expect one (not with the launch of the powerset, at least).
There's been no sign of one whatsoever.
Unless they've kept it completely hidden from us - and, given the amount of leaks and discoveries recently (and over the years), that seems highly unlikely. I think that the safe money is on one not existing.

Not every MMO can afford Chuck Norris, Mr T, Ozzy Osbourne and William Shatner. In fact, it seems only one of them can.

Suck it up. They explained that they wanted to space out the intervals between powersets. Expect future sets to be handled exactly the same way.
