Hopefully none of them end up like the one's in South Carolina.

How much time was there between the New darkness sets coming out, and Beast mastery being released? A month? Less? It was NOT a long time, that is for sure. Given that..how can they claim not to bring out Powersets on top of each other? Especially since dark was THREE sets (control, assault and affinity). Surely being 3 whole power sets, it 'should' be therefore..3 times as long till the next powerset...yet, we got BM in a month. Going by simply maths, that means ONE power set could come out every 14 days, and not count as overlapping..

I think whats annoying people the most, including me, is that Staff was on test before (I think?) BM, and seemed a lot more..finished, yet BM came out first.

Let's just be honest Mister D, a lot of Z's post was forgivable company speak. The bold is so so true though.

You do realize that even if they did not release a vanity pet, they wouldn't (necessarily) release staff instead? That Vanity pets do not take away from powersets?

If staff had Staff mastery for stalkers, I'd be after both powersets.

Different playstyles does not mean they cannot appeal to the same people.

This, I'll agree with.

they're following a trend of sorts

9/27 - Time Manipulation and Beam Rifle (i21)
10/4 - Street Fighting
12/6 - Titan Weapons
3/2 - Darkness Control/Assault/Affinity (i22)
3/20 - Beast Mastery
4/?? - Staff Fighting

On the other hand, (even if it's not what you want them to) kids learn.

And the feel of something dragging on more than a James T. Kirk speech in original Star Trek.

Staff fighting was an early April Fool's joke....there are no plans for it to go Live.

*goes to eat a dang quesadilla*

I happen to be one of the few people who actually liked the movie without being ironic. And even I didn't catch the hint about the liger. My movie mojo faled me

I watched about 15 minutes of Napoleon Dynamite before turning it off because I couldn't take any more. And I don't mean that in a good way. I love stupid movies. One of my all-time favorites is Airplane!. (The exclamation point is part of its title, like the game show Jeopardy!.) Count UHF up there, too. I even moderately liked movies like Clerks. But Napoleon Dynamite was so boring and unfunny I just couldn't stand it. I have a friend who thinks it's hilarious. He thinks I don't "get it." I do get it, it's just as funny to me as an old knock knock joke. (It's not.)

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

And, if those dates are accurate, people should be happy if Staff Fighting comes out in April instead of May!

Not to say that I wasn't surprised when War Witch's letter was suggesting BM would be coming out first.
I hear the complaints over that, but... c'mon, this is old news.
Once it didn't come out right away... and once we saw the list in her letter... We're lucky if they release it so soon as this month.

I put Napoleon Dynamite in the "Stupid/ funny/ guilty pleasure" category of movies I like, next to Kung Pow: Enter the Fist and Freddy Got Fingered. I grew up watching trash cinema and B-movies, so I have a fondness for things like that. And Airplane! is a classic, definitely.

I'm with you on ND 100%.

I think I watched about 5-10 minutes and was like, "wow....this is bad....I want my 5-10 minutes of my life back."

The problem is that the main char. ND, reminds me (and my best friend) of another friend of ours because he seems to stretch the truth (nice way of saying it) a lot....just like ND.

Ugh...

  • Staff Fighting was opened on the beta earlier than Beast Mastery.
  • Staff Fighting was acknowledged by the majority of testers on the VIP beta as being clearly ready for release outside of minor FX issues as early as the end of January, as evidenced by testing data across all level ranges on the VIP beta servers, including Incarnate content. There were complaints about the set's sound effects, which were addressed, and there was an animation bug involving Assassin Strike on Staff Stalkers, which was addressed.
  • Beast Mastery, in contrast, was widely acknowledged to be underperforming by a substantial percentage of the testers who were actually skillful Mastermind players and who were not too busy squeeing over the pets' appearance to actually pay attention to the numbers. Chief among the set's acknowledged issues were the fact that none of the six pets in the set have gapless attack chains (in fact, all six have large gaps), and the fact that there was an observed correlation between Beast Mastery's introduction to the beta servers and a sudden significant degradation in pet AI performance which affected all Mastermind primaries.
  • The fact that the introduction of Beast Mastery to the VIP beta servers exposed a bug causing pets - Mastermind pets, Lore pets, Controller pets, any kind of pets - to uncontrollably charge mission and/or trial bosses while ignoring mastermind pet commands, including stay/heel, (most noticeable in various phases of the Underground trial, and also with Marauder at Lambda Sector, but it manifests in non-Incarnate content as well) should have been an absolute show-stopper to the set's release; there is no universe I am aware of in which an update that fundamentally breaks the functionality of one archetype and significantly inhibits the damage-dealing functionality of two other archetypes should have been considered acceptable.
  • Nonetheless, Beast Mastery was released to the live servers without addressing any of its problems, in the midst of a continuous wave (which is still ongoing) of new Paragon Market items obsessively using the four-legged animation rig first introduced by the German Shepherd vanity pet. As of right now, April 3, 2012, all of the above mentioned issues, which were identified on the VIP beta in February, are still present on the live servers.
  • We are then told that the timing of the release of Beast Mastery - which should not have been pushed live in this state - is the primary reason that Staff Fighting has not been released to the live servers, because "if we release too many Powersets too quickly, it could be seen as a grab at your Paragon Points, and subsequently, your money." However, either the development team apparently does not consider a black wolf vanity pet that is documented to require, on average, the purchase of over one hundred dollars in Super Packs to be a grab at our Paragon Points, or that excuse is patently devoid of truth.
This is something of a concerning matter that's crossed my mind: Why push out Beast Mastery when it was so unpolished and unready for release compared to staff fighting?

The lesson seems to be yet another reminder of why the devs invented closed betas.

Closed betas have always, always run more smoothly than open betas, and closed beta testers have always, always demonstrated far less entitlement about anything that appeared in closed betas.

Glad they got rid of that ish.

The majority of people that they usually invite into Closed Betas tend to understand that the things they see, test and play with, on Beta, may not come out on live for a long, long time.
Open Beta would have come with both sets already out and wouldn't be judged around ideas such as "we got Staff first and BM second... how dare they release BM first?!?!".

I'm sure the Devs dread and are cut-to-the-chase by the critical remarks of closed beta testers than any open forum hater, especially those who've demonstrated a keen ability to criticize something with which they have no knowledge or experience or think posting the same pet peeve in multiple threads gives them a bigger voice rather than, in actuality, a much smaller voice.

They also tend to be the people that write the guides, verify the numbers, test the mechanics, write up the content, and do all the things without which the rest of the playerbase would be in the dark ages. The notion that the closed beta testers are sycophants is actually pretty offensive, albeit in a sad way.

Jeez, Venture is usually a closed beta tester. Because when you think *** kissing sycophant, you think Venture.
