COX E-Mail Marketing

I have g-mail and for whatever reason everytime I get a e-mail from Paragon about the latest goods on the market I get ads popping up on g-mail.

It is REALLY annoying as these ads only pop up when opening e-mail from Paragon and the Paragon Market announcements. Is there a way to disable this kind of thing? This never happened before they started to sell the Supergamble Packs....

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Same here, for what it's worth: I use GMail, and no pop-ups whatsoever.
Methinks, OP, your PC has been pwned.

We never include any popup ads, or even basic javascript functionality in the e-mails.

The most recent e-mail should look just like this, with no popups or non-COH ads.

http://newsletters.ncsoft.com/emp/co...-02-28/na.html

If you're seeing any non-NCsoft advertising or popups when viewing our e-mail newsletters, it's highly likely due to a third party application.

On a related topic, how do I get these emails? I've checked every option I can find, and still don't recieve anything from NCSoft outside of "account activity" stuff.

Ironic that the ONLY source I actually want to see marketing emails from is the one that I don't.

Any chance you could look into the fact that many players (including myself) never receive such e-mails even though they have an e-mail address on file and are opted-in to receive them?

That is something we have looked into, and are working to address. The most common causes for not receiving the newsletters are:

  1. The e-mail provider has blacklisted the COH newsletters. This can be for a variety of reasons such as the rate the newsletters are sent out, or issues with the header information.
  2. The customer never opted in. (It's surprisingly more difficult than it seems to sign up for these newsletters.)

We're working on addressing the former through a variety of methods, including an upgrade to the e-mail system, as well as contacting the appropriate providers.

We're working on the latter by setting up methods to more easily subscribe/unsubscribe to e-mail newsletters.

Neither resolution, unfortunately, is coming "soon."

So, using the "Zwillinger" scale of "Soon", we're probably talking what? 3025? 3050? 3075?

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Like others said, I don't get the emails, which makes me very very sad.

Would you mind telling us what email address they come from so I can add it to my contacts? Just in case it's going to spam.

As to the OP, try a script blocker, since it doesn't seem a provider solution is coming anytime soon.

Just thought I should mention this here, in case anyone has ideas. I was one of those who did sign up and had always received the newsletters in my gmail. Yet since , I think Freedom , all my emails have been content blank, as in I see the headers an footers but that's it, everything in the middle is cleared out. After clicking the link mentioned in the posts above , I'm guessing it's region locked. (No my filters are off for COH related stuff )

That could be due to your e-mail client/provider blocking external images from displaying. There's almost no text in the newsletters, so it would look like it's empty. I know my Gmail account does that by default. There should be a way to either disable that feature, or add an exception on a per-sender basis.

Providers using automated systems are likely blocking your emails because your emails have several "mistakes" that make them look like spam.

I get my CoH email on a system that I actually run, and so I can see the full internals of why it gets flagged spam. I still get it because I completely whitelisted you but it gets MARKED as spam:

Quote:
X-Spam-Report:
* 3.2 FH_DATE_PAST_20XX The date is grossly in the future.
* 1.9 DATE_IN_FUTURE_06_12 Date: is 6 to 12 hours after Received: date
* 0.4 HTML_IMAGE_RATIO_02 BODY: HTML has a low ratio of text to image area
* 0.0 HTML_MESSAGE BODY: HTML included in message
* 0.0 BAYES_50 BODY: Bayesian spam probability is 40 to 60%
* [score: 0.5000]
* 1.5 MIME_HTML_ONLY BODY: Message only has text/html MIME parts
* 1.4 MIME_QP_LONG_LINE RAW: Quoted-printable line longer than 76 chars
* -0.4 AWL AWL: From: address is in the auto white-list
The key part is this:

Quote:
Received: from listmanager.lyris.ncsoft.com (listmanager.lyris.ncsoft.com [64.25.42.37])
by example.com (8.13.8/8.13.1) with SMTP id q1LIGtH2004143
for <plasma@example.com>; Tue, 21 Feb 2012 11:16:55 -0700
And yet:

Quote:
Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2012 18:05:35 -0800
As you can see, your email system is labeling the email with a timestamp 8 hours in the future from when my system receives it. Spammers, in the quest for efficiency, tend to "copy" headers and not generate real headers for each spam copy they send. That leads to quirks with things like time, and that's what is being detected here. The majority of your spam score comes from this error.

The probable cause is this: the system on which your email software runs set it UTC/GMT, but the email system itself is being TOLD the system is running PST. This results in the time, as "perceived" by the email program, being 8 hours in the future. (The difference between PST and UTC.)

If your email program has a setting for time zone, I'd suggest you try setting it to UTC/GMT for the next mailing.

The second big problem is this:

Quote:
* 1.5 MIME_HTML_ONLY BODY: Message only has text/html MIME parts
That's easy to fix. Send a text version too. Just a "This is an HTML message. If your email client cannot read HTML email messages, you can view this at <URL>." is a pretty good substitute.

I guess that's possible. However, I receive a tremendous amount of spam, most of it obviously and blatantly spam, which is simply diverted into a spam folder. The CoH emails don't show up at all.

Perhaps the settings on your end were lost at some point? I USED TO get the emails, but now I don't. I did NOT change email providers.

I use to get them till either 2008 or 2009 Spring Event. I did not change any account settings; I've also double checked the marketing setting and gone a few days with it off just to go back and turn it back on just in case. I haven't received a single one since then. I currently go through yahoo if it matters.

I receive support emails just fine.

There is and it still doesn't work! I have submitted tickets on this and still no joy. Also when I follow the newsletter webpage link I get a DNS does not resolve error. This is the only newsletter I have issues with, everybody else when I click the "Display Images" it works flawlessly.

I would just like to get the email's before the events are over.

Good investigation work Plasma, hopefully it will go some way to enable many of us (I stop recieving the newsletters ages ago) to receive them again.

the only problem I've ever had with the emails was primarily pre-freedom I would get the same one multiple times.

Quoting myself as I find this morning, after all this time, two emails for "Paragon Press Issue #5 Issue 22"

I laughed. I cried. I rolled my eyes a little.
