this voting on the costume pieces is amazing

I assume for Dual Pistols. There is also voting on rifle models - presumably for Beam Rifle set.

Thought I'd throw my own thoughts in, too.

I love this level of interaction with the playerbase. I was hoping that it wasn't too time-consuming and that it could happen again; letting us decide what we hand over money for is great for everyone. Really!

Looking forward to seeing what else comes up in the future. Maybe a thread should be started about the next plummit pack, so forumites who can't attend can make suggestions, and then players that do attend could maybe submit any ideas they liked into the brainstorm?

Well, I assumed there was a measure of humorousness to your post, so not all was lost! I especially enjoyed the bit about the European month-long vacations and stuff!
Being a EUer in the states, it's funny because it's true!

There's definitely a lot of time off scattered around between the end of November to near the end of January for assorted holidays.

I can tell you based on rather extensive interaction between myself and Euros, you guys certainly seem to get much more time off than we do. Americans, in general, tend to work 45-50 hours/week, more weekends and through more holidays than most Euros I've had the pleasure of working with/being friends with.

I'm not including myself in that perception, because I believe those working in gaming work obscene hours by any standard .

I believe Asian cultures put us to shame though .

David, I gotta say I had you all wrong. For a long time I thought you were being very narrow-minded with your creative vision and style choices for various costume sets but after reading your thoughts on Penny's costume and now seeing what plentiful options you've had to conceive for the Retro Space set that may never make the final selection, I have to re-assess my understanding of how you manage this process and your level of creative flexibility and give you both my thanks and a well-deserved apology. I was *soooooooo* wrong about you. I'm sorry.

You really do a great job managing this process. Please keep up the good work - and thank you.

No offense Noble but while I am excited about being able to vote, and I appreciate you guys asking for our input in this fashion, I can't help but remember a similar poll that we were asked to participate in about what zone we would like you guys to work on next and now several years have passed and

We are still waiting for our MOON ZONE!!!

If you guys never had any intention of working on what we told you we wanted why even bother including it as a choice?

Anyway I'm hoping this poll doesn't leave me disappointed with the staff like that poll did.

Hey! I only get six weeks of paid vacation a year.

Plus holidays of course.

We get two (if we're lucky).

I love it when I get pulled into threads. But seeing as I've been quoted...

The reason I'm still peeved is that the EU used to get official player meets and yes, we even had the joy of seeing Noble Savage and War Witch come over to see us. These have now completely dried up.

The only player meets we have these days are organised by a very dedicated player on her own time. And for the last one, the EU NC representative cancelled on the night before and failed to turn up.

The reason EU meets probably don't happen is a) the devastation of NC Europe and b) general economic recession. So, ok, I understand and that's just the way things are. But when initiatives like these are offered, it'd be nice to get the participation of players who aren't conveniently down the street from the office (no disrespect meant to those travelling to the Plummit).

For what it's worth, I think the voting is a great idea and I'm happy to be able to make some small contribution to the next costume pack. I also recognise that no product can be made by committee so there's a limit to how many players can get involved. It'd just be nice for players outside of the US to get that chance.

it's a good start

900+ votes in each category is pretty damn good

Yeah, I think this is one of the greatest things about our Dev team. They hear out voices in most cases. I really like this, even if some of the options I voted for are not winning.

Thanks, Rubberlad. I certainly don't manage all the art decisions alone, but I appreciate what you're saying.

Game development is a a very iterative process, and whatever the project, we've always tried to think through all the possibilities and then pick the one that'll delight you guys the most. Concept art is all about throwing lots of choices at the wall and seeing which ones are the stickiest. For every good idea that makes it to final, there are always 5-10 more that don't. (Even on this Retro Scifi set, there were several more ideas that we proactively cut for various reasons).

I've always tried my best to involve you guys in the decision-making because, frankly, you know the game at a much deeper level than I do--you're the ones playing it every day, and you know the ins-and-outs. That's why I've always consulted your opinion over the forums and why I'm now doubly excited for the possibilites offered by the player-driven costume set initiative.

I can't think of any other games that have ever done anything like this, and that's really cool. It's historic and unprecidented yet totally in keeping with what we've always tried to do, which is to give you guys a voice in what goes into the game and to give you more and more ways to customize your gaming experience.

Anyway, thanks for playing, and I think you'll be pretty excited to see what's coming next.

Moon zone was before my time, so I can't speak to that, but there's something coming soon that might make you very happy. Not a moon zone, but yeah...it's cool. Can't say any more!

As for Retro Scifi--yes, you can take this one to the bank. Not a hoax, not an imaginary story: this set will be built for realz based specifically on players' votes. And if it does well, you can count on more and more player-involvement in the future. Neat, huh?

at least that's what I got out of that

I really don't see why they can't just offer all the options. If the rumors of increased revenue from these packs are true then I would think it would be worth the development time.

My assumption is that people generally accept close enough.

If I have a rocket pack will I buy another pack with a different rocket pack? Or am I more likely to buy a pack that has something completely different?

I bet they get more buck for the bang doing a wide variety rather than a bunch of similar

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I wonder what this could mean.

Because making three time as many pieces per set means it takes three times as much time to create one set which means we get three times as few different sets. Not really that hard to get imo.
