Spring attack - anyone using it?
on a controller yeah i would say filler power
on a melee toon it has more potential since as you pointed out it does get you into melee fast and knocks the foes down
the only downsides to the power is that it is fairly weak compared to non pool powers and it is on a longish rech
I'm enjoying it on a few different doms and controllers. Gets you into melee fast. So long as you have other melee and PB AoE powers to use as well, it works great. Nice little knockdown for additional control.
Please buff Ice Control.
I use it on my Bubbler simply because I have so much room for other powers, but I find it unspectacular, at best.
Global Name: Denver Nugget
Playing since i3 on 8 servers
I'm using it on a Katana Stalker to try and give him more AOE.. It doesn't break hide either, so I can swoop in, knock everyone down, and then use soaring dragon on the nearest body and go from there. It's fun.
The PROBLEM is that it's not very practical. It has such a long recharge and sort of lowish damage. I'll probably like it more once I start IOing out the character, but it doesn't really impress me mathematically on a "vanilla" character.
I've used it enough on brutes and tanks to be enamoured of it. It does a lot for a dominator and holds some pretty saucy sets, too.
Never considered it for a Dom, but have a couple of scrappers with it.

I don't think any modern dominator build is worried about the long recharge on powers. Soon as you cross that off your list of objections, you can see the utility it has.
For instance, my earth/nrg dom took it to supplement his lack of AoE. Made for a good opening attack after stalagmites. Followed up with whirling hands for the 1-2 PB AoE.
I think any dom that like to get into melee quick can benefit from just the tp. Fire control, Elec control, Ice control all have PB AoE controls that work best in tight groups at melee range.
The knockdown is also a good soft control option. A lot of you seem to build for defense, so why not take advantage of your soft cap and jump into melee?
Oh, and you can put an Obliteration set in it or a Kinetic Crash for the recharge bonuses (kb resist as well).
Please buff Ice Control.
I haven't considered it for doms (I use it on a stalker since as mentioned it doesn't break hide and it's a good complement theme wise with Lightning Rod) but what I'm reading is actually making it tempting for a future project
I think one of the detriments so to speak of the power is that it interferes with what a lot of people consider their travel power of choice (ss+cj). The recharge can be tough but it is overshadowed by the sets it takes and generally by the amount of rech in the builds that want to maximize AOE dmg.

Currently working on:
Turtle Snapper - SD/MA/Ice Tanker
Using it on my Warshade.
Spring Attack -> Eclipse -> Mire works extremely well.

Spring Attack is underwhelming from a numbers standpoint, compared to Epic AoEs available to almost every AT. But Spring Attack is NOT an Epic AoE, and its availability in the early levels and low level TFs is a godsend for AoE light toons. Plus as many people will point out, MOAR AOEz is usually better than less, even if you can take Firebawwllz and Rain of Fire you can usually benefit from another AoE in your burst of AoE damageuuhhzzz huuurrr!

My MM uses it to soak up aggro/attacks so enemies don't destroy pets.
I'm using it on my tank (SD/Mace). I really enjoy using it after a shield charge and whirling mace.
Current active characters: Dragon Maiden (50+3 Brute SS/WP/PM), Black Widow Maiden (50+1 Night Widow), Catayclasmic Ariel (50 lvl Defender - Kin/DP), Quantumshock (50 lvl Elect/Energy/Energy), American's Defender (38 lvl Tanker - SD/Mace), Spider-Maiden (15 lvl Corruptor - RB/PD) & Siren Shrike (15 lvl Defender - Sonic/Sonic). My entire stable.
Really? It doesn't break hide? Is that intentional or a bug?
|
it's intentional as the damage comes from a pseudo pet. Lightning Rod is like that also and if Shield were ever ported Shield Charge would be too. Any powers that use a summon/pet don't break hide and I think that might also be true for other forms of stealth.
I picked it up on my dark/shield scrapper to give him some extra AoE, since he's a bit light on it otherwise. It's sort of like a shield charge lite.
Fire/earth dom luvs her SA.
Please buff Ice Control.
My TW/Invul loves spring attack, is fun and fits the concept.
I slot 6 obliterations there, and recharge is much better with it.

I just took it on my earth/earth (lvl 16). I am liking it so far.
Solo, it gets me into melee fast and knocks the foes down. I follow up with Tremor and then hold one and take on the the others. It does okay damage (I am not slotted at all yet), according to in-game it is as much as stone mallet.
If I'm facing just an lt and a minion I don't use it, just hold the held and wade in.
I have the feeling that when I get earthquake and have that and stalagmites slotted so they come up often, I won't want to charge in to start a fight.
I'm wondering if this is just filler until my character fills out?
