  1. Can we all just agree that you're a dipshit?

This is an utterly meaningless "fact." You could use a browser game with 300 users to "prove" it.

Only if "reality" = "stuff saveCoH really hopes is true."

The game didn't have to live either.

Shrinking the dev team, merging studios, shutting down servers - these are all things that are well documented to cause player flight. Which then causes another round of said contractions.

I know it's impossible for youi to understand, but it's just possible that NCSoft knows more about running MMOs than you do.

  3. So what are you grave dancers going to do with yourselves in 5 days?

Hopefully, there's another game that gets shut down so you don't go crazy having to contain your 20-20 hindsight financial prophesying.
  4. It depends on how much Chapstik they put on before kissing my ***.

  6. So if Paragon was a tiny part of their business and it mattered virtually nothing to their financials what do you suspect was the reason for closing it?

Closure seemed to imply it was hurting the company somehow and had to go.
  7. Down down down their stock keeps going. Hasn't been this low since April 2010.

Guess 3Q report wasn't what investors wanted to hear.

I guess the new direction they cited for closing Paragon was 'down'.
  8. Their shareholders aren't impressed.
  9. I wonder if NCSoft has considered what this closure will mean to their ability to find development studios that will be willing to work with them.

Where would a dev team trying to design and market a new game pitch their idea first for a NA and European release? NCSoft doesn't instill me with confidence that they can handle this side of the globe.

I am by no means saying I'm happy with NCSoft's decision to shut CoH down. But in the grand scheme of things I'm happier we got to play the game for 3 extra months (without updates) than not. *shrugs*
I don't think they would've been THAT stupid.

    Could you imagine the lawsuits?

People had just purchased points and a new powerset. Closure without being able to use those purchases would've been grounds for litigation.

No. The 3 months wasn't a 'we feel bad for you loyal customers'. It was a 'we don't want to get sued'.

If they really cared, they would've softened the blow with all number of giveaways and sendoffs. Instead they fired the dev team and left the game open 3 months to close out accounts and send out refunds.

  12. What the thread title says is that GW2 is better than CoH Halloween. Then, the post goes on to invite CoH players to join the OP in GW2.

So I disagreed their event is better and then suggested the OP go to the GW2 forums if he's looking for people to join him celebrating GW2's greatness.

Then I said go ahead and play GW2. Have fun. But don't get all pissy if people here who enjoy CoH and dislike NCSoft and their remaining products tell you to **** off.

To use the funeral analogy, if I've just buried a loved one, I'm not going to open emails about fun vacation spots the next day. I won't begrudge friends sending them to me, but I simply wouldn't click on them.

As many people have already pointed out, time is short for the game and these boards. Which would you rather be spending your remaining time doing; reading posts that make you happy and playing the game you loved, or trying to police other people's posts that just irritate you and waste what little time you have left on negativity? Is that really what you want your last memories of the City of boards to be? Arguing with someone about what they should and shouldn't post?

Me, I wouldn't waste my time. I'd read what I liked and ignore the rest.
  13. The descent continues for NCSoft. They're hovering around their 52 week low.

Will the axe fall on another studio?
  14. Then go play GW2. Nothing is stopping you. Why is it necessary to come onto the CoH forums to recruit for a different game? Especially when it's from the same company that just closed this game? Are you expecting people to pucker up and blow kisses?

Whilst I understand the disappointment, I just want a fun game to play. CoH was the only MMO I ever played for long periods of time and also the only one I ever came back to. I have an emotional investment in all my characters and will sorely miss them when they're gone. Thing is, they are just characters in a game that were never really "mine" in the real sense in the first place.

I'm very likely going to be playing GW2 on December 1st, and after reading non "OMG THE BEWBS!" reviews of Blade n Soul I might even give that a go. I'm clearly a bad man.

I'd love to Save CoH just as much as anyone. I'm not going to limit myself on what game do play when it closes though, because ultimately the only one that loses out is me.

    Guild War 2

    NCSoft can lick my balls.
  16. I'm pretty sure GW2 has forums for you to recruit people to play with you.
  17. Last year's Halloween Event with the new haunted house mission was the best evar.

**** whatever GW2 is doing. It can't measure up.
  18. If it doesn't pick up soon and continues the slide, would NCSoft cut off additional projects? Should Carbine Studios polishing their resumes?
  19. So why is their stock continuing its decline after GW2's release and spike? Is there some economic crisis in S.Korea? Looking at global markets I don't see the same picture as NC Soft's drop.

    Where to now?

    There can be only one.
  21. If I had a picture of you flashing me pre-facebook how would I have gotten to send it to everyone?

If this girl was an adult and all this happened would you say she 'should have known better'?

Do you think teens are mature enough to handle the power of social networking?

If I was a creeper trolling for nude teen pics where would I find them pre-facebook?

You can sit there and yell at me all you want. The fact remains that this type of deviant behavior and the calamities that can result are due to the ability of people to send/access personal info 24-7.
  22. Remember the old days when bullies would just beat you up on the playground for your lunch money?

I really wish people started valuing privacy more than their social status. Posting pics, stories, videos, etc. of yourself for all the world to see opens you up to ****** up stalkers who enjoy torment.

As an adult, if you make that choice then you're an idiot, but it's your own business. However, teens have no business using these sites. They're not mature enough to understand the consequences or deal with them. Unfortunately for this girl, that realization came too late.

And I'll point out that every active MMO is undergoing continuous development. That means that when the closure of an MMO is announced, there are always features and updates being worked on, and plans well into the future. If those things weren't true, it'd be complete negligence on the part of the developer team.

As for posting this knowledge, there's no point of doing so. Shouting 'the game is dying' on the forums runs the risk of being a self-fulfilling prophecy. And besides, there were people doing that already (pretty much since launch).

Here is the evidence of the lack of growth you asked for: http://global.ncsoft.com/global/ir/earnings.aspx
Ok, so WoW is going to close at some point.

GW2 is going to close at some point.

And when those announcements come in the future I can claim to be as prescient as you. And I can tell their respective communities to just accept that it was going to happen and they should have known better.

And here's my evidence when it happens:
