SSA 5 Discussion (And countdown till its live!)
Map after map of the most miserable, unfun faction in the game so you can watch Statesman go down like a chump.
Someone over there actually thought this was "epic"? |
Also, seeing Ruladak the Ravager. It just strengthens my suspicion that whoever writes this stuff isn't deliberately contradicting earlier lore, they just don't care enough to go on ParagonWiki and look stuff up.

That is certainly a possibility and it could be much worse if the later part of Wade's plan comes to fruition. Though, would be neat for The Battallion to turn up only to be faced with Rularuu as The Well's champion.

In the new DA content, we learn that Mender Silos thinks that Rularuu should be used as a weapon to fight the Coming Storm - the mysterious letter writing Dream Doctor thinks that's not a good idea.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Which is why I stopped at SSA1 and haven't done any others.

I know this is the forums and haters gotta hate, but I thought that Part 5 was excellent. Some tough fights that really had good comic book feel to them, a couple of fights left me hanging by a tiny hp string, which is how I love to walk away from a victory. The story was solid Wade is doing his crazy villain thing well, Statesman doesn't break his character, and dies with a solid ending. I have been enjoying the entire arc and am now really looking forward to six and seven. I am not saying you haters are wrong, I am into this but that doesn't mean you have to be, but I am really, really enjoying the SSA.
Personal opinion: It was an empty death. Like Star Trek TNG Tasha Yar empty death. No honor, no big battle, no nothing. I was hoping for something more than just a smile and just death. I really felt let down and I really did not feel the emotional part that was suppose to be conveyed until I threw in my words as filler. Don't get me wrong it was a good build up but a let down ending that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Wait, they're still planning for The Coming Storm?
Harold Camping thinks we're weird for still thinking it's going to happen.
Well, played the hero side arc. Hated it.
First of all, my biggest complain in so many of these arcs is that we've gone from "You are the hero" to "You are a bystander". Nothing my player does even pretends to make any difference. This one took it to its nadir. You visit under a bar, find a clue that basically says "hey, search this other place" - then a big fight between named heroes and villains that served no purpose. The looking through what appears to be Praetorian sewers but really under the Rogue Isles. Meaningless fights including some named villains helped by named heroes, three clues about what Wade is doing. Then the last one - you fight through some normal foes, see the cutscene where everything happens and you can do nothing to affect it, then some fights that change nothing, all the bad guys get away. Not even any minor plots spoiled, not even a hair of less-than-total victory in the arc. Bad guys win. Period. Completely.
And even if it hadn't been an arc with my character made completely impotent and sidelined - Statesman deserved better. Look at the big stories of heroes dying. They die making a difference. Sacrificing themselves for the greater good. They make a choice that what they accomplish by dying is more important than continuing to live. Breakneck, in the comic and in the Ouroboros arc, shows us how a hero dies. Statesman falls into a trap that Fusionette would have foreseen and is murdered to steal his power. These feels less like the end of Primal Earths' greatest hero and more like a middle finger to Jack Emmett.
My arcs are constantly shifting, just search for GadgetDon for the latest.

I also liked how... *spoilers*
...when you check Statesman's body, you're given the choice to try to revive Statesman, but find that none of your reviving powers work on his corpse. Kind of a nice touch, to acknowledge people going 'Uh, why can't I just use (insert rez power here)?' Guess whatever that ritual was, it made the death permanent. *end spoilers* |
Hi Shadowblaze.
I liked that part too. My Fire/Fire scrap tried to revive him and when she couldn't, I felt like Statesman was with his family, finally at peace, and, thanks to the wisdom of his wife, acknowledged that we could be be strong enough to take up where he left off
And so, his spirit refused to return.
Lisa.
So don't wait for heroes, do it yourself

Statesman is probably gonna go fight in some tournament in heaven to figure out just who is the greatest hero of all time, now.
Well I enjoyed this arc. Especially that last map (I WANTS!). I was a bit let down that it wasn't an epic fight and then States lost though, Beyond that very cool.
I don't have an aversion to not being able to affect the story as it is being mostly played out by the game and it's like watching a comic with come interaction as well. I notice they try and mention your characters name in the text though so not bad at all.
Would be cool if somehow our characters could be in the cut scenes interacting (IE TA tries to intervene but is held back by some barrier, punching at the barrier while Wade does his thing).
Overall though? Loved it. Now how do I get my hands on that last map?
I'll take a PM Golden Girl. I don't mind reading the last page of a book.

SPOILERS
I found it pretty funny, overall. Especially the cutscene. I was kind of expecting something... not so funny. It's supposed to be super-serious and everything and all the NPCs look BORED and they're just standing there, looking around...
