Wade uses a ritual that killed Imperius and Romulus that Sister Arelia created. He researched it for 10 years and it basically nullifies Statesman's powers.
He nullifies Statesman's powers and then uses the obelisk that he stole from Alastor the Ghost to basically float Statesman suspended in air as he absorbs his powers from him. The entire time you see flashbacks of whats going through Statesman's head like Miss Liberty as a small girl, his wife, Lord Recluse when he was a man and how even now he cannot bring himself to hate Recluse, and finally you see his wife telling him that its over. The fate of the world cannot rest on one person and to let go. (Although this part I disagree with his wife telling him to give up)
Exactly..maybe is WAS spoiled on purpose. It is still a damn stupid move.
And if it takes SO long to remove states, why kill him? Why not start the removal months back, when the SSA started? I'm not saying it is easy, but having him STILL in game is just lame. |
Either he'll be back in SSA7 at full strength, or their Phasing Tech is malfunctioning.
Cause with all honesty, if you do something this epic, shaking up the game like THIS, better do it right the 1st time. Have it get dragged out months before you guys are done with phasing him out looks like you guys are waaaay behind on schedule, and that this was a last minute effort to shake up the game. Looked to me and others that someone else who would be easier to take out the game was going to die, and if it really is Statesman, i wonder why you guys haven't finished it up before SSA5 came out.
I hope, and assume, that you guys planned the whole story line before even starting to create SSA1, cause if you are just creating a new SSA each month without knowing the full story i'd say you guys are wasting valuable resources.
PS: Yes, i HATED it with a passion that this was leaked! Almost made me not wanna play this. But Zwill was leaning on how he died, that that would be spectacular..and it wasn't, not imo.

Although I had theorized other possibilities like a third Incarnate path (The player getting the powers unlocking Alpha Incarnate slot) or unlocking new abilities.
********
On a discussion note, Wade is now a full Incarnate with Statesman's powers. Is he completely free from the Well? This was the discussion I was trying to bring up (See the linked thread) over a month ago.
Basically we the players are taking the "slow" Incarnate path to become full Incarnates in order to be free of the Well -- Wade has seemed to find a fast path that is free of all of the Well's influence.
Or is he free?
I also predicted that it would be Wade that got Statesman's powers and I was correct about that. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...highlight=wadeOn a discussion note, Wade is now a full Incarnate with Statesman's powers. Alright, thanks. I still think Wade is a pretty lame "ultimate villain", but that's neither here nor there.

Right what bugs me is this guy has found a way to dodge all of the Well's control and to become INSTANTLY a full powered Incarnate in less then 10 years. Something the entire players (Being perceived as in game characters), Statesman, Lord Recluse (especially him), haven't been able to in centuries.
Basically this guy is a genius that would put Nemesis to shame is kind of how its written.
One thing I forgot to add was that during his death Statesman mentions that Lord Recluse can be redeemed.

Okay, I have a few problems. The arc wasn't terrible, but i want to get some stuff off my chest.
First and foremost. What the crap was with Wade's "I want to free rularuu" thing being a surprise? ANYONE who has done his arc (That gives a badge, even) knows that. He is quite proud of the fact. How did I not see this coming?!?
Second: The old "Walk into a ritual" trick? Really? Come on States, how long have you been alive again? (before this >_> )
Third: Statesman got NOTHING out of any of this. He just -died-, No grand sacrifice, didn't even bloody Wade's nose. "Herp, gonna fling around the most powerful hero like a ragdoll then leave him a smoking corpse"
States, no matter WHAT people think of him, deserved something a bit more dignified. A grand battle, a sacrifice, something other than just walking onto an obvious trap and getting fried.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he's being subtly directed by Rularuu himself mentally or via some agent or something. Darrin thinks he's got everything he needs to free Rularuu and take his power, but Rularuu will easily break free from anything Darrin uses to bind him. He probably won't kill Darrin, allowing him to live to see the destruction he'll cause now that he's freed, and that's where the villain/hero will probably step in, to get their final battle with Darrin and have revenge/justice.
|
If the group could imprison him I could see this being a possibility too.

Looking at the SuperPack cards, the hero and villain logo are made one

It was written so that States was angered into rolling right in instead of being cautious, even Miss Liberty turning up in the first mission could be seen as a slight nod to this.

Wade taunts Statesman over Alexis' death, and asks if he's come to kill him - Statesman says he's come to arrest him - because he doesn't kill.
Wade says that's too bad, because he kills - and then drains Satesman's power for himself through a ritual he's been working on for 10 years, which is linked to Cimerora and Imperious. Statesman collapses, and Wade asks if he has any last words - Statesman just says that villains like him can't win, and Wade seems disappointed that there was no big speech.
He then kills Statesman in a sort of Force lightning kind of way, only it's not really lightning - more like raw power, and as Statesman dies, the cutscene jumps between him dying and memories and thoughts of his family, inlcuding Recluse, who he finally calls Stefan again, and refers to him as his best friend. He also sees Ms. Liberty as a child and an adult, with the quote about asking him if he can fly to heaven, and Monica Richter, who tells him that they've been waiting for him for a long time, and that's it's time for him to finally rest.
Then he falls forwards in the usual death animation, and the cutscene ends.
We then reach the temple, and confront Wade, who's now using Statesman's power, and says that he's going to kill Sister Psyche next.
He's surprised at how powerful we are, and he retreats, summoning an aspect of Rulardak the Strong to fight us instead and cover his escape - after Rulardak is defeated, the mission ends.
Wade's big plan is to release Rularuu, but only a little bit at a time, which he plans to absorb into himself, eventually making him Rularuu.

I agree, that mound should have had a big red X painted on it and a sign that said "Stand here Statesman"

I had a friend go through this with me on the team but not entering as per my promise to myself about this event, and all was described and I could hear parts of it (we'd worked this out already).
I'll say it now.
It was not emotional.
It was not moving.
It was trying to and failing at manipulating the emotions of the player (who not only gets to watch this happen but is also apparently incapable of doing anything at all to stop it; I don't care if you're going to kill him, but for pity's sake at least make a modicum of effort to make the players more than bystanders and that their efforts are fruitless).
Statesman isn't angry; he's going to lock Wade up. However, he just waltzes into an incredibly basic trap (what was the point of the glowy machines described to me in the second part if they didn't do anything?) and takes it as my friend and I joked about as well as Darth Maul saying 'look at me, I'm a standing target, cut me in half'.
It's that rudimentary and that lacking in credibility.
I fully expect the fallout to be pedantic ranting by those who want revenge, half-thought out plans by heroes and a deus ex machina to resolve the plot rather than anything we players are doing, because we've frankly achieved squat over the last four chapters.
I didn't even play this and I can drive trucks through the plotholes. But with the 'beat you over the head' promotion of this, the earnest assurances you would be moved and the continued denial of any seeming victory, I'm left not really caring at all about the conclusion of this story now.
There wasn't even a badge.
The big game that launched last month that I'm sure this event in part was meant to distract us from does it better, has way more emotional impact and involves you. I strongly suggest Paragon Studios studies and learns.

P.S. I don't know who is writing this, but stop using Geoff Johns as your role model. The horrible mashing of Silver Age ideals and graphic violence turned me off with the Superboy-Prime fiasco, and this story is following suit.
Part of Sister Flame's Clickey-Clack Posse
Was anyone else disappointed that Statesman didn't explode and we would have Statesman gibblets all over, at least that is what I was waiting for when I saw him being fried to death.
Also I hope that we have a memorial service like the wedding for Sister Psyche and Manticore, now that would be cool.
Cancel the kitchen scraps for widows and lepers, no more merciful beheadings and call off christmas!

I also liked how... *spoilers*
...when you check Statesman's body, you're given the choice to try to revive Statesman, but find that none of your reviving powers work on his corpse. Kind of a nice touch, to acknowledge people going 'Uh, why can't I just use (insert rez power here)?' Guess whatever that ritual was, it made the death permanent.
