hahahahahaha

a pet would be nifty but I tend to have more fun with powers that don't summon things. makes me feel more creative when I can name all my pets. "Dark Servant" has such a blase name.

Watch it be a power called "lights out" that turns your monitor off and kills everything.

It calls forth a dead hero/villain to fight for you. Which one you get is random.

That's why they're killing off so many people in the SSA. They're building the pool for the DC Tier 9.

You uh, you do realize that pets do more then just damage, right? I mean not all of them, obviously, but they uh, they are a good way away from just being 'glorified DoTs'. Hated that saying in other MMO's, hate it just as much here.

At least in other games pets can actually keep up with you. In other games calling them a "glorified DoT" works.

Well like I said before I consider some ATs like Scrappers to be just glorified sources of DoT.
Many Scrappers/Brutes can't really do anything else but run around chaotically like Fire Imps and damage things.

Ironically people who dismiss pets as one-trick ponies usually play characters who are themselves fairly one-dimensional.

Yeah, really, my dark servant:
Chill of the Night (Toggle: PBAoE, Minor DoT(Negative), Foe -To-Hit)
Darkest Night (Toggle: Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe -DMG)
Twilight Grasp (Ranged, Foe -DMG, -To-Hit, Team Heal)
Tenebrous Tentacles (Ranged (Cone), Moderate DMG(Negative/Smash), Foe Immobilize, -To-Hit
Petrifying Gaze (Ranged, Foe Hold)
Resistance (Auto, Self +Res(Negative), -Res(Energy))

does all that.

that's a hold, a cone immobilize, a bit of dps, some nice debuffs on the enemies, and an aoe heal that debuffs an enemy's chance to hit (although it has a chance to miss)

Yep that definitely looks like a rather 4-legged wolfish type critter to me.

Carrion Creepers - but with the black tentacles out of the ground look, that have a longer duration so they are a pet

Basically an underworldly tentacle monster that only appears as the tentacles reaching up out of the ground

It looks very cool.
The real question is what powers it uses with what numbers.

The T9 is called Umbra Beast

You conjure up one of the most fearsome creatures of the Netherworld, the Umbra Beast. This creature will fight beside its summoner using its brutal claw, bite and darkness attacks. Recharge: Very Long

Attacks are as follows:

Claw Rake - ST Neg/Leth Dmg
Vicious Bite - Another ST Neg/Leth Dmg
Umbra Swipe - Cone (90 Deg Arc, 16 Targets) Neg/Leth Dmg
Shadowy Binds - ST Mag 4 Immob, -To Hit and some Neg Dmg
Terrifying Roar - Cone (30 Deg Arc, 10 Targets) Mag 3 Fear, Some Neg/Smash Dmg

Sweet I totally called it. What do I win? Oh right....beast mastery *face palm* (They didn't put dark control in beta instead we got beast mastery with unfinished powers, getting fixed).

It's called Umbra Beast I believe the pic is a shadow wolf. I'll bet a tiny looking one but still.

I'm still cautious about the wolf actually being the Umbra Beast. Darkness Control has another summon power, and it may be a Shade.

I doubt that. Shades have Shadow Punch as their attack. Punching wolves doesn't seem like a good fit. Also, the pic only shows 1 of them, and yes, that doesn't mean there's -only- one, I would think that if they were displaying the [Haunt] power they'd make a point of showing two pets.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Shades have fly (I'm not on beta atm so I can't double check) and again, Punching Wolves-Flying Wolves.

Doesn't sound that good, I'd love to be proved wrong though.

Compared to what? Certainly not other controller pets. Seems like a good set of attacks, controls, and AoE considering what most of the pets have.

Well it's hard to say without actual dmg/recharge/animation numbers for each ability (which I would love to see). I guess I just feel like the pet won't be any better than other pets, which I don't value highly either.

Jack Frost is in lolIceControl, Fly Trap has horrible AI, and I've never really had much experience with animate stone other than it sequesters leagues in BAF. And all pets have issues with keeping up with you and attacking what you want them to attack in anything other than a defeat all. Imps have good dps but still fall into the category of not being able to keep up and not attacking what you want them to attack.

Also, does the pet debuff tohit? Does it have any base resistance/defense? Does it have increased movement speed (like imps, for a wolf it could make sense)? And with 2 cone aoes, will it actually make decent use of them? It doesn't have ranged attacks, which I consider a good thing, especially when it comes to AI (unless Shadowy Binds is ranged, which would make me qq). Whatever the recharge on Terrifying Roar is also pretty significant, if it is too long it won't be something you can rely on. Fear isn't a super good debuff, the best part about things like Fearsome Stare is it's tohit debuff, rather than the fear. I would hope Terrifying Roar has a tohit debuff, even if its a small one. If the only tohit debuff the Pet can dish out is Shadowy Binds I will be greatly disappointed.
