What are the top C'mon Newb! Moments in COH history that you know of?
PVE/PVP/Dev/CCR/Channel/Comments - Anything that's Lulz worthy.

Worst C'mon Newb! Offender: Me

Running up to purples and trying to debuff them after being directed to Peregrine once asking a group of players on Freedom where the best place to level was.

Second -
Saw my first Giant Monster, Lusca in Independence Port. Decided that at level 12 I could take it down alone. Needless to say, 3 hours after, I asked in the help channel why I couldn't beat it and was told, '' Because you're using the wrong power set. '' I re-rolled, took a train and got wrecked. I asked again why I kept getting pwn'd and was told, '' It takes awhile..''
^ Thank you Exalted server for all your dedication.

For for my first few days, playing as a Force Fielder, I thought this game had a very strange, alien themed soundtrack.

Then I found out that was the sound effect from PFF.

Resting, waiting until both bars are filled, then being unable to figure out why you can't move. Lag? Bug? Did your computer freeze up?

Because you didn't turn off Rest yet, no0b!

(I did this probably a dozen times myself during my first two months or so...)

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

Guilty as charged -
I even filed a support ticket, and the GM was beyond polite about the issue. We both cried, laughed, talked about glory days. Yes, yes. Good times.

I recall way back in 2004, still trying to learn all there was to learn in Paragon City while playing an Elec/Dev blaster (my first main). Inf was a lot harder to accumulate back then, and so I was always running short when trying to buy new enhancements for ever more slots as I leveled.

But as I was approaching level 15, I found that purchasing enhancements was getting easier, as I was earning more inf at higher levels, until suddenly I was able to go on a spending spree and deck out all my slots...

...with shiny new level 15 Training Origin enhancements.

Dual Origin what??? I didn't even realize there was anything other than TOs in this game!

What was worse was that I somehow got it into my head that you could only have one of any type enhancement in a power. So they all got one accuracy, one damage, one endurance reduction, etc...

Cowering behind a rock with a PU Teammate in Talos, with a mission door being 'guarded' by some +6 or so Freakshow. Bad enough, but then I wailed in Broadcast "we need help! C'mere and get these +6 baddies outta our door! Pleeeease!"

At the time, both of us were awful sure there was NO WAY we could just run past the baddies click the door and dive in the mission...

Quite a few someones actually answered the call, dispatched the two baddies... I mentioned it was only two minions, right? And then said "That's it?"

"Yep! Thanks!"

"Uh... ok."

At which point, I figured it out, and my mind screamed "NOOB!" But off we went and had a grand time in the mission.

/Before I learned now to run across the Hollows as a level 1.
//Before the Empire... er, Rogue Isles.

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.

I remember when CoV came out, I was infernally convinced that you could only equip one pet, and could only have one set of pets out at once on a Mastermind.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

It was about a month after I started playing that I found out that those shops actually sold enhancements. In my defense, this was before I1, shops didn't have their own map icons, yadda yadda.

Just the other day, after hitting 50, while getting help in preparation for Mender Ramiel's arc (because trapdoor was a pretty tough fight when I had tested it on the beta server)...

I found out that there are two ouroboroses. One for heroes, and one for villains.
I never thought they were seperate! Of course, in my defense, I'd never actually had reason to try grouping cross faction there before.

And it makes sense when you think about it more, but it was completely out of left field for me.

Back when the game first launched and you could slot ANY type of enhancement in a power, regardless of what kind it was. I kept putting range enhancements in Blazing Aura, hoping that by level 50 I'd be able to clear the whole map of Atlas Park just by standing still under the statue.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. Alright, so me and my friend were both running around Kings Row with our level 14ish blasters. We turn a corner and find around three giant robots sitting in a park. Paladins. Our first Giant Monsters. We determined that one of them must be the leader, and that if we defeat him then they will all die. So we approached the one we deemed the leader and started attacking it. The ensuing event went like this:

Me: "It's not dying! It's not dying!"
Friend: "My health!"
Me: "Pop greens! Nevermind! Run! Run!"

We proceeded to flee down the streets as first as our sprints could take, with a couple of giant robots chasing behind us. We got separated in the chaos, each of us weaving through the neighborhoods.

Friend: "No! Lag! Lag!"
Me: "Keep running!"
Friend: "I'm trying!"

We survived in the end. But we didn't leave without scars.

I did that too... worst part was, the thing that tipped me off to more than one of a specific type being possible was when ED hit and everyone else was complaining about suddenly "only" being able to use three damage enhancements in their powers. For me it was like, "I can use three??? AWESOME!!!"

Are you saying there's a way to avoid getting caught on stuff? 'Cause my arch-enemy is the humble post or torch.

My moments:

Running World Wide Red on my tanker (first to 50) and popped out of a mission and get an ambush. Wow that is a big robot ... oh well I am tough. After a trip to the hospital I realized it was a GM ambush and a single tanker wasn't going to cut it.

The train, we all do it.

Asking on a global channel for a team to take down Sally. Nice response was "You do realize Sally only has 1 HP right?"

ED at is best
Back in the day when the game launched we didn't even know there were shops for DOs and SOs since they were not showing up on the map.

I also insisted (coming from Everquest) that we try to single pull enemies

I started in i7, so I don't have a lot of the really old ones, but before Lingering Radiation was made resistable I kept wondering why everyone else complained about how hard it was to kill AVs - after all, my Ice/Rad Corruptor didn't have any issues!

I haven't caught myself with Rest in a long time, but I blame that on not using Rest anymore; I've managed to forget the second tram door a couple of times and have used an Ouroboros portal rather than walking around and waiting for the train to come back because it's faster to zone twice than deal with the animation; back when the time badge was still required for Born in Battle I was hanging around in Siren's Call on a Fire/Kin Corruptor, got bored, and decided to duel a Fire/EM Blaster who was in the zone... when I was level 29 and had just outleveled all of my level 25 SO enhancements (the fight didn't go very well).

I started in 2006, I'd heard this new game "City of Villains" had come out. I bought and began playing the week before the first Pocket D Valentines event. So I was astonished to see that not only were my own kin, villains, around and in force, but HEROES! And they were all SO MUCH higher level than I! And, as they were heroes, they were more than happy to help me, even asking for it! What devil sorcery was this?

Also, it took 7 months of convincing and all sorts of other coercion from my new friends I'd made that enhancements DID actually do something, and it was quite useful. I was level 28 and had 3 travel powers.

Good times, good times.

Ah, yes, gaining a level and becoming relatively less powerful... still an idiotic concept.

Here's one from my past, i joined the game right before the Crash Site became the War Zone. I had made a Sonic/Ice blaster, and had most if not all the Power Pool attacks, Jump Kick, Flurry, Punch, Kick. Man thinking back i wonder why did i do it.

no wonder it toke 3 months and a respec or two to get 50. I still have the blaster but never play it since it was my 1st 50.

2nd was a Necro/Traps that was fun up to the point i fought Valkyrie and her Rez'ing MoG, o man that hurt. Didn't even know about Enchantments for the 1st few months i played, just sold them for Inf. SO Fighting on a Gimped Blaster and Nerco/Traps with NO Enhans kinda left a scar.

Going to miss the fun and nice people here at CoH. Feel free to add me on PS3/XBox360

Currently playing: Mass Effect 3(PS3) Minecraft(X360) Skyrim(X360).

Oh I got another one.

When I was complaining about how hard the low level praetorian missions were as a stalker, someone mentioned that all they did was pop a few purples and reds and auto-win the fight.

my response: Wait, you can use more than one of those at once?

It had been like 2 years total playtime across 3 years of the game's history at that point and I never figured out you could stack inspirations. Suddenly I started USING them. and the game became so much easier.

YOU don't become less powerful. It's your equipment that's out of date. It's exactly the same as using low level equipment on a high level character in every other MMO that's ever existed.
