Discussion: Issue 21: Convergence - November 10, 2011 [Live]
First of all, I am writing this from work where I do NOT have the Launcher in front of me, so I may be describing this wrong.
In the NCSoft Launcher, select City of Heroes, then there is a little arrow/triangle icon that pops up next to the name of the game... click (or right click?) on it and select 'Repair'. This is where I remember this option being the last time I needed to use it. They could have changed things or I could be misremembering. You -may- need to do a defrag on the drive that the game files are saved on. But I might be wrong here, too. If you already defrag'd or you do so regularly, this may NOT be an issue. In any case it just sounds like that file got messed up. Again, I also could be blowing gas or something. If all else fails, contact support. I tried to find the information in their knowledge base to direct you to and failed and I don't have more time to go delving. Hope SOMETHING in my words help somehow, someway. |

Physics
Updated to a newer version of PhysX. Does this mean I can use a second nvidia video card as a physx card? Because the option in the menu isn't letting me turn it on. |
Seriously, this needs to be worked on.

Not a bug, not related to CoH, is a setting in your Nvidia control panel, under the "3D Settings" menu option. (File, Edit, Desktop, 3D Settings, and Help)
Just uncheck "Show PhysX Visual Indicator" and it'll fix that. If you have SLI there is also an option to "Show SLI Visual Indicator" which is handy to see if SLI works properly on a game (hint: it does in CoH, at least in AFR mode).
You'll want to be out of game when you change that, when you log back in, it should be gone. Yours must've gotten flipped somehow. Sadly...it doesn't say "PhysX--GPU" the way it SHOULD...but I've already expressed my displeasure with CoH's PhysX implimentation (i.e. lack of a proper one).
"Superman died fighting Doomsday because he allowed his toggles to drop, and didn't beat Doomsday before Unstoppable wore off, sad really..."
I'm not saying everythings peachy keen, because there's certainly some serious issues, however it's not quite Rollback severity.
The word Rollback has very, very serious implications when you're talking about a live product. |
Other than that, I can't blame you or anyone else for their handling, you're basically doing DC right now anyway.
"Superman died fighting Doomsday because he allowed his toggles to drop, and didn't beat Doomsday before Unstoppable wore off, sad really..."
To put it succinctly, on every MMO I've worked on, that count is up to 4 now, the words Rollback also mean a loss of customer progression from the current time stamp to the point of restoration. This means the loss of every item/loot dropped, any experience or levels, any achievement earned...you get the point.
In Game Development, because there are so many intertwined customer facing systems, there is rarely an elegant way to go in and completely pull out a feature or change. They can sometimes be disabled with a server side client command, but rarely, and I mean rarely, can they just be pulled out like a proverbial hair in the soup without significant risk. When I tell you that a Rollback is srs bsnss, I'm not kidding. And no, you're not howling. Questions are to be expected. |
Someone's head needs to be smacked around a bit at least (perhaps not "put on a pike" though..I wouldn't be opposed) for pushing this build live with the massive pile of errors it has in it.
At the very least someone should be "on notice" should it happen again.
"Superman died fighting Doomsday because he allowed his toggles to drop, and didn't beat Doomsday before Unstoppable wore off, sad really..."
Disappointing...Usually the quality of the code is better than this here. The interface issues are of particular concern being their existence was known in beta. Boggles my mind that you would rush release an incomplete and buggy version like this. Maybe if the new content was included....but really? What have you achieved other than pissing off the customer? Hope this isn't going to be the new norm.
New bug, guys!
You know how Devouring Earth from the same spawn won't drop multiple emanators at the same time, to prevent things like stacked Cairns that make them unkillable?
I watched them drop all their emanators the instant they saw me. This is actually after we pulled some away, out of their range, because we were doing 8 points of damage to the Cairns.
Please try my custom mission arcs!
Legacy of a Rogue (ID 459586, Entry for Dr. Aeon's Third Challenge)
Death for Dollars! (ID 1050)
Dr. Duplicate's Dastardly Dare (ID 1218)
Win the Past, Own the Future (ID 1429)
Seriously?
Isn't this the third time the Mace Mastery bug has been "fixed"?
Can we just start leaving that out of the notes until...you know...it's actually fixed?
"I saw my advantage and took it. That's what heroes do." - Homer Simpson.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but it looks like the celestial rifle is bugging again with this patch - the weapon now floats below my AR blaster's hands.
I'm not saying everythings peachy keen, because there's certainly some serious issues, however it's not quite Rollback severity.

oh and thanks sooo much for what we have now . . .
fix yo _hit!!
the devs better be working through this all weekend. ill come back after i play skyrim.

8. New tool for base building that's great, why give it to use when it's broken though? [...] |
Create a new room type so they only work in that room... a lot of people will be happy!
|
Also more of a wishlist request, could you also reconsider putting back the ability to put items in doorways.
I know it was redacted during i13 beta because of the problems that occurred when placing functional items outside of the room they're meant to be confined in. But could you just put it back with an additional check to only allow "decorative" items to be placed outside its designated room. |
Oh and DEs becoming as difficult to destroy as the planet as a whole? Who let the noob tinker with all the NPC rank classifications(Devoire) and spawn limitations?
10 50's To Date! Check out Titan Sentinel; it got my CoH presence synced online

Looks like I'll be taking a break from the game. I hope this stuff gets fixed soon.
I really want to be very mean right now but I won't.
I will say disappointment in the management of the Departments and they might want to be checked. Really how does something this F'ed up get out to live. Is it your testing methods? Did someone not do there job in Tech Support and not get you the info that the issue was messed up on Test? Really I would like to know how this happens. And honestly I hope some Management is at least reprimanded for this If not sent on down the road for the Bad implementation of the last few issues.
I am sorry if this seems harsh to some, but really this kind of thing has been done and complained about many times. And honestly I am getting very tired of Not being able to play my game right, because they break it ever issue and then it takes months or many issues (if that soon) to get fixed.
Honestly I will have to jump on the band wagon now, that Paragon owes up some free time to the VIP players.
Bad Paragon no cookies for anyone!!!!
Broomhilda BS/Regen/BM Scrapper, Fiddle Faddle Shield/ElecM/BM Tank,
And many others..
Dev's With all the Great new content, Please!! dont forget to fix the bugs with the old content. There is a storm a brewing because they are not getting fixed. If its a problem that no one is reporting them? Well Maybe you need to look at your tech support then..
A couple of points
1) SAVING your window settings from Menu->Options means that you can quickly LOAD your window settings when the UI gets reset. Earlier posts show the / commands to achieve this.
2) The various Veteran Award buff pets are now toggles, which is kinda cute.
3) They REMOVED the /BUYCOH command, now I can't almost-instantly switch characters
4) The new Physx drivers mean that those people with high end NVIDIA cards will now have access to the physx stuff -- however, by default the Nvidia drivers will show PHYSX -> CPU overlayed on the CoH screen, which is very very annoying. There is an option to turn this overlay off
... Nvidia Control Panel
... ... Manage 3D settings
... Menu bar now shows 3D settings, where you can uncheck "Show PHYSX visual indicator"
5) They removed the (secret-ish) command to use /AH inside the base and instanced missions. I don't know WHY they think /ah inside a base is something to DENY.
6) Why are emails mailed TO YOURSELF on a damned 15 second timer!
7) It was nice that this maintenance update was contained to a Thursday, although the six hour window was a bit of a surprise.
Overall, this update was not very well implemented/tested and this seems to be the NORM for Paragon Studios these days. Very disappointing that basic Quality Assurance and Regression Testing isn't done -effectively- when there is no pressing need to 'release something TODAY!'.

Then why wasn't THAT build the one you released, huh? Seriously, this is a game breaking bug for many, including me. It should NOT have been released with this known bug.
|
Seriously - they *knew* there was a game-breaking bug but released it anyway?
Sadly, I'm afraid it's time to pull out my mantra when it comes to this development team:
There's nothing like good Quality Control and Change Management, and this is *nothing* like good Quality Control and Change Management.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...99#post3982899
I would really like to know if this is a rollback or just more maintenance.
I'm good either way because I know how these things can be.
the good stuff is always buggy, the better the content, the buggier it is.
this is by far the most buggy Iv'e seen things in a while, which just means its also the most awesome.
I'd wade up to my armpits in camel **** for new base editing features.
And I'd throw everyone's mother in front of a bulldozer for just the same.
Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.
This is so redic atm. I demand that the devs and programmers read this thread. WHAT IN THE NAME of all that is good DO WE EVEN HAVE A STooPID beta server for upcomming builds to test? YOU dont even bother testing it. your code is soo terribad that implenting new things ALMOST ALWAYS guarantees a showstopping completely unrelated bug to the game. ANd you guys are the damn slowest when it comes to fixing yo _hit.
ever since this game became free to play ive become more and more angry at it. w/e its obv that the stipend you give to players is backfiring b/c really all you want now is more and more money from us. fine, start releasing bug fix compilation on the market for paragon points. i give up! ill pay for the damn thing now.
Vertical placement has sort of been officially unofficial feature since i13 (before that it was still considered a bug). Because it was thought of that way, i was fine with accepting that many base items didn't have a bottom graphic.
But now since it really is officially official...couldn't you have gone the extra mile and added bottom graphics to all items? That would've greatly increased the building options since i've avoided many items because of the transparent bottom.
