Can one solo a monster?

Not a "GM" like Eochai or Jurassik but a Monster Class mob like the ones in the Hive... If so, which AT?

Monsters are generally somewhat weaker (for small values of "weak") than Giant Monsters, so presumably anything that can defeat a Giant Monster can also defeat a Monster. I would guess not much else could though, maybe if you can solo AVs but not GMs then you might have a shot.

Anything that can survive and degen enough to get rid of their +300hps or w/e can do it like /traps MMs, it might take a while tho

I'll give it a try on my SS/Fire/Mu brute sometime in the near future.

Pretty much any AT can do it. Just pop 2 or 3 purple inspirations, drop your lore pets (preferably the cimeroans or the warworks) and wait. If you have any debuffs at all use them (envenomed dagger is the best option universally available, but defenders, corrupters, masterminds, and controllers all have very powerful debuffs as well).

If you want some no insps no temp powers, well bots/traps MM, Ill/cold controller, fire/rad corrupter (or rad/fire defender) are all popular. If you do some searching for a chap named Silverado, who has videos of soloing many different Monsters and GMs and AVs with a fire/psi blaster. This included Hive Monsters.

If I can find the posts I'll edit this with a link, but I am horrid at searching.

Here we go found it. Shows the blaster Silveress taking down a selection of GMs and a lattice and quarry (DE Monsters).

Also for strategy from later in the thread on how she survived long enough to kill them:

Quote:
Look at the Defense. She has 32% Ranged and AoE Defense. Add a single Luck and that's soft-capped at 45%. That's a base 5% chance to hit, but I believe GMs get a 1.5 accuracy modifier. That means the GMs have a 7.5% chance to hit when she has a Luck. That Defense comes from Hover, Weave, and lots of IO Set bonuses. I expect she has 4 full sets of Blessing of the Zephyr (Super Speed, Hover, Fly, Group Fly), a full set of purple Confuses, and who knows what else. She also has about 48% Smashing and Lethal Resistance from Tough and Temp Invulnerability. That cuts damage from some GMs roughly in half. Notice that she didn't use hardly any Inspirations when fighting the Quarry and Lattice (which do Smashing and Lethal damage), while she did against the others (who tend to do Energy or Toxic damage).

All she needs to do is survive long enough in between lucky hits to regen all the damage. She regens nearly 27 HP/second before Drain Psyche, and nearly 32 with it. GMs don't tend to have a lot of ranged attacks, and AoEs tend to be weaker than single target attacks. She's got 1604 HP, so she can survive a hit or two. And she has Force of Nature and Eye of the Magus too.
Edit: @DZ131 longest fight took 20 minutes (Jurassik). This is before any incarnate powers or inherent fitness etc. So will probably be under 5 minutes today.

My Necro/Dark took out Halloween Eochai the other day, and would be able to drop Scrapyard if he'd stop running like a little...yeah.

I'm sure I could drop the regular mosters with him. That is if they don't run like they're being butchered.

Stupid Scrapyard

Perma-PA Illusion/Radiation and Illusion/Cold Controllers have long been known as AV and GM Killers even before Incarnate powers. Send out Phantom Army to draw the attention of the bad guy, then debuff and chip away at his health. As long as the debuffs have enough -Regen, you can do it. The only problem is the momentary re-cast of PA.

Frankly, it is pretty boring because they have so many hit points.

Saw a video about a year and a half ago before incarnate content. Bots/Dark Mastermind taking out a lot of redside Giant monsters.

Done this on my ill/rad many times, and as others have said its not hard just rather boring as it takes a while. It's not as much about DPS as just tanking their hp regen, you could brawl them to death if you really felt like it as long as you can keep their hp from recovering.

I've soloed some GMs on my rad/sonic defender (Incarnate powers have made this much easier) but I've never tried a DE monster with him. Perhaps I'll give it a go tomorrow

someone posted pics a long time ago of their Ill/Rad soloing Lusca, lots of time and inspiration use, but it was done.

I've only solo'd one GM with my Ill/Rad, and it was Paladin, which is sorta a handicap since Clockwork are weak to Psionic damage.

heh, I have taken out all the GM's but Lusca and Deathsurge solo on my Fire/Rad corr.

The hardest one being Scrapyard who likes to run like a little school girl.

I've heard about bots/traps MMs being able to solo just about any GM

Also, same goes for ill/rad controllers.

And just for kicks and giggles:
I've also heard a "Kheld" legend about a post detailing a peacebringer who two-shotted hamidon...(this was back during a nova form bug that allowed infinite slots in form powers, along with no enhancement caps)

Gah Scrapyard is very annoying to fight.

I have taken out all gm's(including Lusca) except Kronos Class Titan and the Arachnos Flyer on my Elec/Cold controller without lore pets. Now that I think about it I haven't tried downing a monster. I WILL have to try this sometime soon.

My defender used to be able to during Issue 4, does that count? >_<

my ill cold has taken out all GMs except kronos titan (never around when it spawns) and the arachnos flier (because it flies)

i think its also impossible to solo the seed of hamidon due to the seedlings mechanic, plus its flying hurts my ill cold

my record on soloing lusca is about 20 minutes

No disrespect intended to AIB, but I'd take that as proof positive that any AT can solo monsters with lore pets. It looks like he fought under specially arranged conditions though, i.e., running the mission at L-1, and having nearby fodder to drain and extract. That's not exactly the same as fighting a DE monster 'in the wild.'

Yeah, monsters are generally just weak GMs. So...cant be that hard. Likely very easy if you use lore.

However, some of the monsters have pretty high res i think. Which can be a problem, a difference of 0% s/l res and 20% is all thats needed to make a GM unsoloable on my SS/fire/soul without lore.

the biggest issue with the monsters is that they are AVs with massive hitpoints and no scaling regen which indeed does give them like around 325 hp/sec which even with -500% regen still only drops that to about 120 hp/sec (which is a little under avg normal AV regen of 184 hp/sec)

AV regens 184/sec? I thought it was like 90-100

It is 92hp/s I believe. For lvl 50 that is, and not counting Reichsman. I'm not sure where the 184 number came from.
