Ins't that the whole point, to "wear" "costume options"* normally unavailable to player characters?

* Because some of these are actually alternate rigs, and not costume pieces at all.

I would not worry about this. His statement refers to the present tense.

“No. I mean that we won't sell Transformation powers that CAN BE easily replicated by the Costume Creator.”

In the future they may well stop selling Transformation Powers and then start selling the pieces. That would still make the above statement true. All he is saying is that at the time a Transformation Power is released you will not at that time be able to make it in the costume editor.

To mean what you seem to be concerned with he would have needed to say

“No. I mean that we won't sell Transformation powers that WILL EVER be replicatable by the Costume Creator.”

For those afraid of being locked out of future costumes and other stuff AND those who expect exclusivity to last forever all one needs to look at is the number of items in the past that were limited to a certain set of customers but are now easier to get.

These Costume pieces being the first example. Available exclusively when attending a Convention. Then available for $20 at any number of conventions and as prizes for contests. 2 Days ago available for $7. Now for $5. Sometime in the future it will be free with the purchase of a costume pack containing all the item pieces for $4.

Dozens of Badges available only if you did X. Now available if you do 1/100th of X.

Villains. Only available if you paid $50. Then only available if you subscribed at $15/month. Now available for FREE.

Capes. Only available at level 20+. Now available to all.

Rule #1. CoH lowers the requirements needed to obtain pretty much all content, sooner or later.

Live its doing that with at least two of these (I didn't buy the carny) as well. I'm hoping they confirm it one way or the other: Dual Pistols looks pretty nifty on the PPD armor with invisible guns (easy to assume he is firing from the armor gun mounts) so I'd be likely to go with that for a character I'm building for this armor. On the other hand if its just a bug and weapons will be visible again later I'd be more likely to go with some sort of energy power I can still imagine is coming from the suit.

So any devs listening, can you give some confirmation what the intention is?

To be nit-picky this is the first time the Devs have ever sold these kinds of costume powers. They were technically only available to a very small minority of the playerbase until now. So for the vast majority of players these are in fact "new" items.

That is probably a bad idea. Then again, the power itself is pretty... well the politest way I can put it is that it needs to be taken out back and put out of its misery.

All the transformation powers are just barely above the usefulness of the Shadowy Presence power. I say that because they could possibly be used for roleplaying purposes.

You'd be wrong. I went to PAXEast the past two years, and NYCC last year primarily to get the codes. I didn't go to NYCC this year primarily because Paragon Studios wasn't there.

That's not to say I didn't do other things at PAXEast this year, or NYCC last year (PAXEast 2010 was sold out so I just went for the meet n' greet), but my primary reason for going was the NCSoft/Paragon Studios presence, and the collectible costume codes.

I'm glad to see that these are now available to people at large, but I would be interested to see how they sell. I was always of the opinion that many people only clamored for them because they couldn't get them.

I currently have all of them except the ones from PAX '11 and next months summit, and I'll probably buy those when they come out. I also have some extras from winning a Pocket D contest that'd I'd been saving to trade for west coast ones I couldn't get, but I guess now I can throw a costume contest and give those away as prizes.

Let's me start by sayingthat I bought all 3 powers, and already rolled a Rikti and a PPD toon, which will stay transformed all of the time.

That been said, I had an idea. You know how we have unique heads(pumpkin) and unique tops(toga). How about unique costumes? Basically everytime you purchase one of these powers you gain 2 things: First, the normal transformation power for your toons to dress and roleplay and switch from one form to another. Second, you unlock a unique costume in the costume creator. When you select that costume from the list, you can't customise anything (or maybe only colour same parts), and can only add weapons, shields and auras. That way nothing clips with anything and you don't lose your costume when activating stealth powers, Rocket Board, Walk, visiting the tailor, etc.

What do you guys think?

Two things:

1) Unless they changed something, in my experience, the transformative powers detoggle when you are stunned. I had a controller who was a body-snatcher and he used these powers all the time. He also got stunned a LOT, which is kind of immersion-breaking.

2) The Spectral Pirate transformative power - was it announced previously that it would be permanently retired never to return? That kind of stinks for folks who were expecting Paragon Market Points on a certain date and didn't get them. If it was announced prior to Ghost Falcon's post in this thread, oh well, I guess.

Ye can find the Pirate Costume Power by navigatin' yerself to either:

Paragon Picks à Featured
Paragon Picks à Sales
Powers àPermanent Powers àNPC Costume Powers

Take note, me hearties: the sale lasts 'til Wednesday, September 21, and once it be over the Pirate Costume Power will be sunk to the bottom of Davey Jones' locker, for who's knowin' how long! (The Costume Power will go back into the Paragon Vault for an undetermined amount of time!) Best be hurryin', ye salty sea dogs!
Apparently "an undetermined amount of time" now translates to "forever". As I've said above, that is a bad idea. It sets a bad precedent.

Edit:
Why does it set a bad precedent? Because the Tier 9 VIP costumes have been advertised with the exact same phrase. This will prompt an even GREATER amount of monkey-poo being thrown at the developers for unwise decision making. Additionally, it seems that the marketing division still doesn't understand the idea of "micro" in the phrase "micro-transaction".

I would love to see this implemented as an option with the same tech they use for the Arachnos Soliders...

And that aspect of the Meet & Greets will allow me to continue to attend them in San Diego even after, as it looks now, 2012 being my last year attending, due both to the changes in the convention itself (having attended since 1977, as well as being on the concom for a number of years and watched it change from a convention about comics by comics fans into a bloated movie-and-TV media convention that has some comic-related material tucked into the corners) and in the utterly brain-dead process that they used this year to sell memberships for next year.

In the past month and a half, we've released costume sets, power sets, a travel power, micro-content releases (the Signature Stories), and more.

The item(s) per week had different price points and targeted different types of play styles. Since we released the Halloween Event and the Halloween Costume Bundle, it made sense to release the convention powers now while all players could have fun with trick-or-treating.

With next week's release, we're aiming to have a little bit more fun with some stuff that compliments our current in-game event.
Sounds good, I appreciate the response ( ' :

The Transformation Powers do not grant access to the Costume Pieces.
I may be reading too much in to this but, it sounds like to me we may be getting costume pieces that are like the hard suit, carnies, and Rikti.

I think a bunch of people are reading way too much into that comment.

The Pirate costume could be made entirely through the use of existing costume pieces (minus the parrot).
People used that as a point of contention (harsh criticism) when it was put into the store for a sizable amount of points/money (what many expressed was over-priced).
I believe that what Ghost Falcon was saying is that they're not going to be trying to sell costume powers that are costumes that we could replicate already. It's not that complicated and doesn't create a whole slew of rules or problems or open up any can of worms... Hehe.
I don't believe they'll be concerned about designing new costume parts that may eventually break the "rule" of the comment he posted.

FINALLY HARLEQUIN IS AVAILABLE.

Just bought three times.

One question though, it says it is temporary.
I do not want ti to disappear after December (or whenever).
Will it go into "Inherent" with the rest of my codes or am I going to have to keep paying 480 points forever?

Also, yes people do go to cons JUST for these. As a matter of fact, I've asked a friend that lives in Riverside to go to cons to get us these codes. They are AWESOME.

My two Cents:

1) The pricing seems alright to me personally.

2) I have no problem with getting costume pieces eventually which makes the transformation powers obsolete. (Your money went to being able to dress that way before everyone else could.)

3) Things that can be achieved/bought only for a limited time (Anniversary Badges, Costume Codes, etc.) is an incredibly bad idea.

as for weapons, its kinda iffy, some models do work, some models dont, but overall i think a majority of them do
Right now on beta stalker hide works with the three ive tested (Malta, Lost and Skyraider), and weapons work with them too, even if claws do look much better on a Skyraider than on a Headman rifleman.

You'd be wrong.
And there's always an exception that proves the rule.

Besides even if the codes were your PRIMARY reason for going they weren't your ONLY reason.
My statement clearly questioned whether there was ever anyone who's ONLY reason for going were the codes.

'Primary reason' does not equal 'Only reason' in this case.

It's listed under temp powers but it is permanent. When they ported it over, they just copied the Halloween Temp power text.

If you right click on the power in the powers window, you'll notice there's no option to delete it whereas if you right click on other temp powers, you can delete the power.

Some temporary powers with limited charges or duration cannot be deleted either - after each Khan I like to fire off the dimensional grounding ray to get rid of it, since I can't delete it.
