Do they ever plan to give us alternate flight poses?

I seem to recall this being requested almost from the beginning. With so many powers getting alternate animations, surely a few new flight poses can't be that tough to program into the game!

As it turns out they were actually "that tough to program into the game".

The Flypose emotes we do have that SpaceNut linked to have been in the game for several years. They're admittedly not very easy to use without keybinding them but they're better than nothing. At the time the Devs attempted to make them more like "built-in default animations" but they could never get that to work very well. The compromise they settled on was the pure emote version we have now.

What we need is to have these fly poses part of the power customization in addition to being an emote. This would make one of those fly poses our fly default pose but allow us to switch "on the fly".

We got those already bind emotes flight pose 1-4 whenever flying hit the Emote for it to go off.

Yeah, I totally hate doing that. I want it set JUST SO, like my dark red mind powers for the Sisters, and my mouselook toggle key being the middle mouse button. I don't wanna have to bind the emote, or type it, I just want it auto-done when I go flyin'.

You can, after all, have two 'emotes' for firing off Mesmerise, after all, why not a flypose?

All my flyers get this macro;

/Macro fly, e flypose1$$e flypose4

That way I can just click the macro when I'm flying and switch between poses. Also edit depending on what looks best with that character.

Last time I tried this, I tried it on a character who had a stealth proc in hover. For 2 minutes after I converted from hover to fly, the flypose animations wouldn't work...

Actually what happened was they were implemented into Fly. Each time you activated Fly, you got a random flight pose. Many on the forums, including myself, didn't like this as many of the poses interfered with character concept. We wanted to be able to choose which pose to use per character, but that wasn't considered doable at the time so the emote flyposes were implemented as a compromise.

This, they even had a 'banking' emote for when you turned. The randomness of it was the dealbreaker as I recall. I can see why, only a few of my flyers would ever use the superman arms forward pose, most all of them us the arms out bent at sides pose exclusively.

Someday we may be lucky and get poop power customization, at that point the issue of random flypose would be solved as we have the tech now to use alternative animations today, something we did not have back when this was first rolled out.

The flypose emot system is a dated attempt at giving us customization in a power we firmly had none for for the time it was introduced it was a good work around.

There is but one truth. Time is limited. ndnw its over

That would be better for Earth Control than flight. Well maybe if we add pigeon flight to go with the bird heads.

Yes the "randomness" was the main thing people focused on to complain about. But the fact that the "random animations" actually broke and/or interfered with existing animations is more than likely what actually lead to Devs giving up on what they had planned with this. For instance the banking animation MaestroMavius mentioned never worked reliably and depending on the way you moved and what powers you tried to use with it the animations would get choppy and it looked horrible.

So yes the "randomness" sucked, but that was far from the only problem they had with it.

Also, IIRC< hover would use the same random routines...

I've seen people in hover mode using a "standing straight" emote at the same time. I can't seem to find that emote. What is it called? (It looks similar to At Ease, but with arms straight down at their sides rather than clasped behind them)

The default hover position is standing straight with arms slightly out. You can use the flypose emotes with hover though.

None of the flyposes looks like what I saw. And its not the default idle hover/fly pose either. It is a rigid, statue-like pose. These characters were just hovering in place in front of Atlas City Hall, in this "standing straight and rigid" pose.

Its called a flight sequencer bug, I think. It never happens to me deliberately, only randomly.

Sounded to me like either villain or hero stances.

They are pretty freakin cool looking but you gotta use points to get them if you dont already have them.

Arcanaville is correct, as usual.

This was long before villain and hero stances were added to the game.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I just have to say that I love the creepy upright hover stance. It's just so... well, creepy.
