Any update on servers 'dying'?
Curiously, all servers are listed as 'down' on the server status page.

Server status page; as trustworthy as a chocolate teapot in the Bahamas.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Just like last week, basically half the day wasted and the devs don't have enough common courtesy to let us really know what is going on. Instead they are giving away ridiculous costume pieces on the Beta server.

It's a fair point, and I only 'shoot down' people that are already making perfect fools of themselves
However, that said, the EULA does actually mean that, no, they don't have to. Going on the written agreement, we're lucky they are actually giving us as much warning as humanly possible with this sort of thing; they are under no obligation (i.e. can bring servers and services down without warning) The Devs and support team are only human. I'm sure they don't do this just to sp- Ok, correction; I'm sure all of them except Black Pebble and Doc Aeon don't do this to spite us. Villains and all that |

I like how you took the time to read the EULA so you can prove people wrong on the foums.

He probably just read it for entertainment value. This is the internet. Anyone who disagrees with me is not only automatically wrong, but stupid as well.

Hey, it's the end of the day over here, I'm allowed to laze about

Not to mention for anything like this it's a fairly standard clause. Why? Because *they cannot guarantee server uptime.* If they could, they'd be running much heavier duty and/or expensive hardware, probably in redundant locations, and making less money (meaning less stuff being developed) or charging much more for the service. It's in there for *every* MMO (or, really, any online game where the publisher hosts the servers, just as much as "online experience may change" is.)
It's the legalese way of saying "Stuff happens that can be out of our control."
It's a game. It's not vital to health or well being. It being down is nothing more than a minor inconvenience. It won't kill you. Neither will getting a little perspective.
This is all quite true, and approaching it philosophically will make getting through the short term easier. And yet...
What evidence do we have for this supposition? If anything, a pattern may be starting to emerge, as this is not the first time of late in which Paragon has had severe server problems. Moreover, the general circumstances are less likely to improve, given the imminent new issue, major change to the game, and (presumed) mass influx of new and returning players. Now is precisely not the time to start making the natives restless. |
Howsabout this one?
Every Thursday the game was up in 2004.
Every Thursday the game was up in 2005.
Every Thursday the game was up in 2006.
Every Thursday the game was up in 2007.
Every Thursday the game was up in 2008.
Every Thursday the game was up in 2009.
Every Thursday the game was up in 2010.
Every Thursday, save the last two, that the game's been up in 2011?
Yep. I see a pattern all right!
My common sense tells me that at the present, I am a subscriber to City of Heroes and therefore am entitled to access to the game for which I have paid. Every minute that I am unexpected cut off from this is money wasted. |
For some people anything more than a single brick is an impenetrable wall.
But we still treasure them anyway and pat them on the head and praise them when they make wee-wee in the toilet instead of on the sofa.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
Upgraded servers.
A bit of time away from the computer. WHOOPS!
A lesson in the fact that, even at the enterprise level, IT is NOT a seamless bastion of problem-avoidance.
Feeling lucky yet?
You want a pattern?

Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.

Okay, I lied. This is the internet. We could have everyone on the fricking planet read this stuff, an OFFICIAL breakdown with agreement by every lawyer in the univers and people would STILL argue about it.
What the hell was I thinking?
Your common sense evidently didn't read the rest of the EULA about downtimes (both planned and otherwise). |
Be that as it may, it's a moot point 'cos the servers are up now.
You are right. They have given me a broken server where my characters reside. I'm so fortunate. I should send them a fruit basket.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Because

Going back to 2004 to predict what will happen with the game's massive changes in the coming month? Can you say past performance is not indicative of future results?
|
Okaaay.
Infinity isn't ready to be online, might as well take it back off, it's unplayable.
Look, I'm all for giving a break for unexpected things going wrong, but it's getting out of hand. The product I'm seeing right now is sloppy and devoid of quality or a "customer comes first" perspective. And no, " a giant war walker stomping around the City Hall parking lot in Atlas Park..." (message that just popped up from Beastyle) isn't going to make up for it.
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
I see quite a few people looking for a DXP weekend to make up for all the downtime of late.
Well I don't, Devs if you are reading, could I get an extra Character slot instead?
